Great song!! From one trucker to another!! And we still cover the radiator in winter, if you want decent heat inside...And us poor boys have to slid cardboard in there!! lol...And my handle has been Crazy for over 20 years...42?
Its called a winter front. They use to put the cover in front of the radiator to block some of the cold air. By restricting the cold air your engine would run hotter. and by increasing the temperature of the engine, you would then be able to get more heat out of the heater. the snap on covers where the fancy type. My dad use to put cardboard in the front. but you always had to keep a close eye on the temperature gauge so you wouldn't over heat
i love the older design of trucks, the new ones suck, ever seen the international lonestar, now thats one futuristic truck, btw my favorite toy was ahotwheels truck it was a kenworth cabover called a thunder roller
Tomislav Kovačević they are cool for nostalgia, but rough riding, harder to get in and out of, uncomfortable to climb over the doghouse in to the bunk, getting dressed lying down...
Karl. Did you send me pictures or do I have some of yours? if you did send them to me, let me know. otherwise, if you have any from the 70's and beyond send them to me and I will include them in one of my next ones....
sabrina cordell old enough to pull 48s and 45s. 40s before my time. Learned to drive on cabovers. Old enough to know jogging suits, flip flops and GPS seem a bit odd to me. I remember Union 76, flashing lights to pass which nobody does anymore, and yes thinking 53s were long. Even the 90s were better than what we have today. Automatic transmission only restrictions on a cdl??? I have to laugh.

RIP "corn bread" Red Simpson who passed away yesterday Jan 8th, 2016. Love this song with him singing with Junior.
When I started in 77 we had a 55 foot length law. Bumper to bumper.

Anybody remember cabover trucks that didn't tilt. To work on the engine, you removed the grill and the engine was slid out on a tray. Old timey.
cabovers are great, kenworth k100, k200, freightliner, international transtar, ford cl 9000, mack MH ...

8-Track's!
Dam I remember the time every driver wanted to get away from cabover's and you know they weren't that bad. and there was no 53 only 48s
and the guys who drove them knew how. can't believe what I see now-a-days. sorry
And before the 48s were 40s and 45s you don't remember far enough

Can someone explain why some of the trucks pictured have some sort of covering over the radiator?
richintalent This increases the heating capability in cold conditions !...
