They make two engine choices for two different customers. Max value and mileage get the 2.5, more power/tech get the 3.5. I bought the 3.5 Sport Prestige, shopping it against the Germans (M340i, GLC43, SQ5). I wanted the performance/tech differences, worth it to me.

Considering the same for my wife, maybe even lower Select trim. This 2.5 is just right (if not actually more) for what people actually need or can handle. Whish it was on the regular gas though, who needs those 15 hp... It's very hard to find one of lower trims for a test drive - all dealers have a showcase 3.5 sport.
You can put regular gas in it. You’ll just lose some midrange torque and the engine will pull timing. You’ll notice it, especially on hot days. But look at cost of ownership, if $4-5 each time you fill up is painful then maybe look at a RAV4 hybrid to save in fuel costs. Regular vs premium is a drop in the bucket when it comes to car ownership.
@@slscamg making engine knock and forcing it to pull timing is NOT a good thing to do. Price delta regular vs prem is ~$0.5, that's $10 on a full tank - it may not be a lot, but it is as if the fuel economy was 2-3 mpg less - guess that would be not a good look, wouldn't it? I don't see any point in 4cyl engines with a premium. People are spoiled with spreadsheet numbers and hp. If RAV4 was in this body and interior design/quality - then it could be applicable here.
@@rosgoncharuk2403 you do know that the majority of turbo 4 engines sold will run their whole life on 87. Any car sold today will adjust timing as needed. $10 a fill up is a small price to pay for the better low and mid range power vs a NA V6.
Great review - I think you've done a great job highlighting some of the smaller "niggly" issues. I have a 2023 2.5T Prestige and the brakes have been updated so I find them good now - when I first start to drive in the morning they are a bit grabby but I think that will reduce as they break in (pun intended). In Canada, we have the HUD which addresses the issue you mentioned keeping the digital speedometer up all the time, as it is displayed on the HUD so you're free to use the info screen for other items. Wireless AA/CarPlay is absolutely a miss, USB-C is a miss - and not having more than one data port is also an issue for me. I also find the 19" wheels we have here in Canada contribute to the luxury feel of the ride - I find it better than the adaptive suspension in the 3.5T with the 21" wheels. I also feel I have to fill up way too much - the tank could be bigger. I drive a lot but I would fill up once a week in my Kia Optima but I have to fill up twice a week with this - they have the same gas tank size and I'm not getting much worse mileage (average about 10.6 L/100 KM and the Optima was about 9.2 on the same drive). Also agree that squeezing into the back seat doesn't scream "luxury" to me. I'd rather give up a couple of inches of cargo to get more leg room. Nice review!
I bought my 2024 2.5t advanced recently. It's the same color and trim as this one, but I wish I could get that maroon interior. Only black and white available. They also removed Lexicon and a few other items off the Advanced trim from 2023 because they wanted to push the SP. I used to have a 3.3l v6 sedan and this car in sports mode is just as fun. I did 95mph yesterday on a freeway and didn't even notice it since it was so smooth. You don't need much more power than this for regular (and even spirited) driving.
