The Secret To Splitting Beehives In Under 5 Minutes
Making Beehive Splits - How to Split My Beehive - Making Splits with Swarm Cells - Making Splits - How to Split a Beehive
In this video, I show you a simple method of Making Increases with Queen Cells and making splits with charged queen cells.
Making an Increase with Queen Cells as the basis for the expansion of bee numbers, you can quickly make increases in the apiary using this method. Making splits with queen cells allows the bees to do most of the hard work for you but I can mean that you are propagating the swarming tendency.
This method of expansion uses a queen-rearing method without grafting.
Grafting queen cells from selected colonies is very useful in selecting quality stock but grafting queen cells to make increase or split beehives is a skill that takes time to develop.
For beginner beekeepers, making an increase using queen cells or making an increase with splits is a far easier and less problematic method.
Making splits with charged queen cells is more reliable than a walk-away split and saves around 1 week in the process.
Making splits with queen cells is very rewarding and can easily increase the number of hives within the apiary.
Splitting beehives and making an increase in the apiary should be done when the weather is warm and the flows are strong. This is natural when bees like to swarm.
If you would like to know how to split beehives, how to make up a nuc, or how to make a nucleus colony, then this video is for you.
Splitting a colony that has charged queen cells means you are able to reduce the chance of the colony swarming as you are splitting the queen and the flying bees away from the charged swarm cells. You need to return after one week and knock back any emergency cells that are created by the bees after the queen is removed.
