Fantastic video! I just acquired a 1929 Deitz D-Lite No 2 in at least as bad a shape as your before pic. I’m going to start the reconditioning process soon. Thinking of simply using a clear coat (if I can find high heat) instead of paint. Otherwise I’ll have to look at color options. Glad I found your video. I think I can do this too. Thank you!
Nice job for sure. I just started today my Dietz #2 to restore. Looked the same as your "before" picture except mine was full of mud dobers nest, just full. Looking forward to when mine is done & looking like yours, thanks
Very nice much deserved restoration for an outstanding lantern. Have a Comet, Little Wizard, D-Lite, and a Blizzard myself made by Dietz. A new past time for 2019. Curious to know what rust remover u used
sir.. before you install the wick, be sure to trim it cleanly and square.. this will give you better results in its function.. other than.. gorgeous job!
I’m got a similar model I’m practicing on,, but the bottom is partially rusted out (big holes)- thoughts on replacing the bottom? I’m considering repurposing a steel can bottom and brazing it on as a replacement.
I don't sell my pieces. I just like the old stuff. Personally I like to make the old stuff functional again so it can be used. Most of the stuff I get does not work or is not functional.

Very nice restoration. How long did you have to soak the parts?
Nice restoring job!
I have one that looks the same, i will restore it!
Thanks for the tips and steps!
Thanks for watching. You will have fun. I love putting old things back to usable condition.
Very good a new lease of life

Great job. What is the solution you placed it in? I have an old dietz lantern I’d like to restore!
I restored my grandfather's feuerhand 275, taking it camping today

I used Evaporust and it worked pretty good. I get mine from auto part stores. Thanks for watching.
i have a original dietz no 2 d lite
Nice work!
Nice job! ;>) Looked beautiful with the lamp running there in the dark ;>)
Thanks for watching and the complement.
What is the specific color of the spray paint? I am looking to restore one of my lanterns in that color.
Was all the rust removal at one time or did you let parts soak for periods of time?
What was the solution fluid you used... thanks
Nice job, looks good== I've been told cut your wick like a pine tree (upside down v ) exposes more wick for a brighter light
I might try that. Thanks
It was a d-lite to watch your video lol
:)
Really enjoyed the resto - great job! Liked/Subscribed. Keep these coming :)
Thanks for watching and subscribing.

Depending on manufacture date and model some Dietz lanterns were NOT painted but left the original tin finish.

What was it that you soaked the parts in, also why the brass wire wheel? Generally I use sand paper and my dremel.
did not look like high heat primer or paint is that the case?
Did you use high temperature paint because I did mine just like yours same primer and all and it bubbled when I lit it
I think he said he did.
I did.
If you were going to sell these would you leave as is or would you clean then? Or restore them?

Wish I could find the leak and fix it.
THEN I can continue trying to remove all the rust.
What kind of paint did you use?
I used rustoleum in a spray can.
what did you soak those pieces in I couldn't read the bottle and you don't talk.
Oh I’m so sick of watching videos of restoration where people don’t talk I don’t know the chemical you poured in the bucket come on man
It was evaporust. You can pick it up at most auto parts stores.
Yuppers, Evaporust ( WORKS ) got about 3-4 lanterns done with it …👍🏿👍🏿
