Short Running Session.

  • Trains fired up and given a short running.
Despite all 3 loops still severed due to the new bridge and works to Exeter Central loop it was great to get some of the stock up and moving after a good few months being stationary.
Also a good opportunity to give the track a good clean and see what locos need a some general cleaning & maintenance.
I'll be back on the layout getting the track work connected back up fairly soon and to follow on with more stunning scenery tutorials.

One thing I really like about this layout is the amount of *space* around the place. I realise there's a long way to go and more will be added but even the carpark, not crammed with cars, looks fantastic. Lots of folks seem to cram something into *every* space, not wanting to "waste" an inch. When the ground cover is this good, it's nice to be able to see it and the open space looks totally realistic. It must be very tempting to *fill* the carpark; there are so many superb OO road vehicles available nowadays, but I like the open, uncluttered appearance. Same with the road; you don't need queues of traffic in both directions.👌
You may have covered this in previous videos but have you any plans to convert your passenger stock to close-coupling Hunt Couplings? The space between the coaches isn't as realistic as the rest of the layout.
    Cheers for now,
    Dougie.

      Thanks Dougie.
This is one thing I don't get is cramming the life out of small areas, clutter I hate it.
My passion is outside detailing, scenery and weathering. No working lights on the layout and there never will be as I like to see the detail.
I'll be adding more vehicles but as you say without cluttering it up so I'll be modelling a summer Sunday evening lol.
The bachmann coaches will be close coupled with the bachmann pipes (the Nse rake is all ready done) and the use of kaydee for the loco / stock connections.
      Thanks for the great comment.
      Tim.

@@thescrapline4905 I'm not so sure about the "no working lights" side of things. Done subtly, some well-positioned lighting can enhance/highlight details, especially on interiors. If it's reasonably subdued, it can add real character to buildings, inside and out, but blazing leds can look really silly and actually spoil a building.
One other advantage, especially if layout photography is important to you, is shadows. Careful lighting can accentuate shadows, giving real depth to dark corners.
Whatever you're doing seems to be working anyway, the layout just keeps on improving. 👍

With all this great work so far I can’t wait to see the station buildings and fittings all in place, the shots over the bungalows down across the line in the distance superb, heck, they were all superb.

Quite brilliant what you have achieved so far, you have created a real depth of field which really draws you in. I agree with a previous comment about clutter, some want to fill every space with something. I realise its a hobby and we do what we enjoy and i get that, but some really over do this aspect. This is coming on a treat and shows you just what can be achieved, look forward to seeing its progress and have subscribed.

Great to see some trains running on the river scene it is a shame that the locos can't run over the bridge but as always great content Tim and look ford to more in the future.

Hoping to start on track laying over the bridge in the next few days. Alot of major adjustments have to be made right back to the platforms so it all flows correctly. I'll also be adding the trackwork into the loco stable depot whilst the alterations are going on.

hi love your videos was just wondering if acrylic thinners would reactivate the matt cote you used for weathering

    • @thescrapline4905
      @thescrapline4905  4 ปีที่แล้ว

No not at all. Matt cote is solvent based.
Acrylic thinners won't reactivate anything much at all, I've tried and tested it.
Enamel thinners or IPA diluted is the best to agitate acrylics once dried. Not all acrylics react very well with enamel thinners and can turn into a tacky mess if over worked. 5 second test, if it doesn't reactivate in that time then it's not suitable to use.
IPA can be very harsh and will eat very quickly through layers so again no longer than a few seconds on one spot.
I find with Matt cote it's best to reactivate it with enamel thinners or another thin layer of Matt cote itself when the original weathering hasn't fully cured.
