      I bought one along with a River 2 pro and a 100w solar panel. This is so I can keep meats and cheese dry from ice cubes and keep my drinks in a separate cooler. I'm camping 6 days at a time and this will keep my bacon and eggs amazin!

    Hi Tom. I just wanted to update your site after camping for six days and five nights using this EcoFlow fridge and ice maker. This was tent camping. It was fantastic. I didn't use the dual fridge/freezer separation slide-in, just the entire interior as a fridge set to 34 degrees. Used the ice maker twice daily. Four of the six days were clear skies, two completely overcast. I was using an EcoFlow bifacial 220 solar panel to keep it charged during the day. I was also using my Montek 1000 during the trip. Two of the items I purchased were due to your channel. Thanks.

      I made a full comment here, but Eco Flow has major quality issues and their customers are their beta testers even tho you paid full price. Just an FYI since on paper they look great.

    • @joannejohnson6393

      @@allaboutroofing2 I do agree. I purchased a Bluetti AC200P, not quite a true first generation product after doing lots of research and finding the HoboTech YT channel and the facebook group. Doing my due diligence as a consumer, Bluetti is a company from whom I would consider making a purchase of a first generation product. I cannot say the same about investing in the purchase of a first generation EcoFlow product, due to some of the same reasons you cited. However, as they introduce their second generation production lines, EcoFlow is correcting many of the major deficiencies of the original offering. I absolutely agree that the consumer who buys in with a purchase of several hundred to a few thousand dollars should not be the beta testers; their approach is neither the first nor the worst of the greed motivated business models out there, a sad indictment of the age in which we live.
      Thanks for taking the time to make a valid critique of my comment. 😎 Much appreciated. Hoping you have an awesome week ahead!!🖤

    putting water in the refrigerator and freezing it is always going to take a ton of energy. Energy use depends on what the fridge contains and what temp you start at. It takes 354 Joules (watt-sec) per gram to freeze water at 0C, starting at 20C (68F). That’s 97 watt hours (0.097 KwH) per liter. For energy testing you want to cool everything to its final temperature first, and then record the energy use over some period, like 24 hours.

    We.just spent 7 days in 95+ temps in a tent in Florida with this unit. We hooked it into the 220W solar panel just to test the usage, even though we had shore power. Worked like a charm. We almost continuously made ice during various parts of the days. The unit is a little heavy and unwieldy when moving it around and I'm not really sure how the wheels are going to help with this. They (wheels) were on back order or I would have gotten them, but have ordered them now. Also, the DC power cord for your car is SHORT for anyone who doesn't have a dedicated DC power outlet in their trunk or cargo area! I can't find anywhere on their site together a longer cord and no one answers their phone number.

    Thanks for the great review!
    I considered this, but already have 5 compressor fridges. I had been making ice with a $99 ALDI unit. It would trip a Morningstar PS300 unit, but ran fine with a 600W Xantrex PS unit. So, I recently bought a BougeRV DC ice-maker, and it is very quiet. Draws 70w~80w while running, and like the ALDI, makes 9 cubes in 8 min (large size). It is lighter and smaller than the ALDI unit, so I am happy with it.

    Thanks for the excellent review! One thing I would caution about these battery powered refrigerators is to be aware that if the battery itself is not cooled by a fan it would probably overheat if left out in ambient air on a hot day even if it’s in the shade. That happened to me with the AcoPower Lion Cooler. A nice test would be to see how the cooler performs when the fridge is left out in the heat (in the shade or enclosed in a vehicle out of direct sunlight).

    • @allaboutroofing2
      @allaboutroofing2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You left it in the sun. A lithium battery will operate just fine in hot weather up to 131 F or 55 C.

    • @genuinetuffguy1854
      @genuinetuffguy1854 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@allaboutroofing2 In our case we left the fridge/cooler in the car in the trunk on a 90 degree day (low humidity). It was in the car for no more than an hour and we were using it to transport apple juice and pies. Arrived home to find the battery overheated. It was not left in direct sunlight, although temperatures in a car trunk will be higher on a hot day than outside ambient air.

    Well Damn, I wish you had dropped this last Thursday, I would have gotten it with the battery. Got my delivered Saturday afternoon and was going to try it out this evening. So now I'll have to wait to buy the battery, as they haven't offer it for sale yet. As ecoflow doesn't mention it needs the battery to make ice in 12 volt camping.
    Well thanks for enlightening about that downfall. I'll let you know how it works out in our Arizona heat with and without the battery when I can get a battery.

As an experiment try just lifting the basket to break the ice loose but leave the ice in the basket while the next batch freezes do that 3 or 4 times until the water level drops down too far and see how much ice you get.

    Wow - the ice maker made me curious. But as you said, I makers are power hungry, and *this one seems no exception* to me. The tiny ice cubes look like 30Wh - to make them compare to ice cubes from the larger consumer AC ice makers, the power meter would probably show 50+Wh. And the the larger consumer ice makers with AC-power don't seem less efficient. They may use 200W?, but with output at least 4 times/hour which would mean 50Wh/production run. Neat idea, but not for me. Hard to keep the ice maker clean. I do like the dual zone, however. But at this point I would opt for a well known (for durability) Engel (like the MR-040). Pair this with 18V power-tool batteries (no need for DCDC-conversion, box will use the 16-20V range from those batteries) and a deep discharge protection, and you have a pretty solid and flexible setup - stationary or battery-portable.
    For those curious: A 18V 6Ah battery will run up to 12 hours in a cold environment, but in a hot car parked in the summer-sun, one battery will hardly last for 2 hours (ass refereed to fridge temps, not deep-freeze temps).

    This is not for me. The "Look Maw, it makes ice!" factor doesn't blind me to the overall cost. Even after your review I believe it's gimmicky. Id rather buy a solid, well-built, and well-insulated dual-zone cooler, and use ice trays in the freezer section to make ice. How much ice does someone need when camping anyway if you have a 12v fridge/freezer to keep things cold?

    • @TheCornucopiaProject-bd5jk
      @TheCornucopiaProject-bd5jk ปีที่แล้ว +4

      That’s a valid point, the freezer already makes ice for you if you want. And if we know there is high demand, just like at home, we are better off buying a bag of ice from the store - and store that ice in the freezer.

      I have a Snomaster 85L Expedition series dual zone. I have two ice trays that are covered. I use them rarely. But I can make ice pretty fast. Fidge will go to -8.
      It's very well insulated. 2.75 inches of insulation. And with the insulated cover it's a little over 3 inches total. I've ran it in 110+ degrees heat. It'll cycle normally. It doesnt constantly run. I usually keep it at 0 degrees for the freezer side and 35 for the fridge. And run it off a Bluetti EB200p. I can get anywhere from 53-63 hours run time off it.

      @TheCornucopiaProject-bd5jk ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheAnnoyingBoss that’s a yes and a no. Under ideal conditions, the answer is yes. But we rarely have ideal conditions for long. The fridges are designed for short term use, like a long weekend. For long term use you will always need more solar panels and a larger battery.

    Why is no reviewer making a big deal about the max 240 watt solar input? Alllll other battery refrigerators I've found all only accept a MAX of 100 watt solar input. I just returned my rough country battery refrigerator because the 100 watt solar input could NOT keep up with the fridge. It would still die daily. Let alone the larger battery than all others, but the soon to be released anker (which is also limited to 100 watt solar max), this unit is a game changer off grid, camping, Lake days etc. The larger battery with 240 watt max solar input is freaking awesome

    The ice maker in my opinion is gimmicky, the maintenance for the amount ice you get is not worth it to me. I just take my ICECO dual zone fridge, set one side to freezer, stop at the gas station and buy a $2 bag of real solid ice and save $500. I guess its good if you go off grid? But I don’t so this one is not for me, also the ICECO has the SECOP compressor with a 5 year warranty, just my .02 thanks for the review Hobo

    10:30 There is apparently a power draw issue if the battery is not installed, i forget who noticed this and found the same thing that it used less power if the battery was installed.
    Hopefully this is a bug that can be patched out, or maybe its part of the design, possibly a DC booster of some kind that is always running if the battery isnt available to act as a smoothing capacitor or some other reason i cant think of at the moment.

    Most Ecoflow products are very well-designed and make sense. This frig and ice maker combo and battery charging usage features do not reflect traditional Ecoflow product design style. I think this is a 3rd party product that Ecoflow purchased and put its brand name on it. I am hoping there will be a version 2.0 to address all those issues .

    My eco flow river 2 still isn't working properly. It times out on solar and requires you to unplug and replug. Also doesnt show the proper output watts on anything below about 10 watts. I wish they would make a good product before moving on to the next one. I personally won't buy from them anymore. Beware, you are a product tester and they they sell products that are faulty and won't correct even a year later still has same issues. My first unit was returned as it died in the first 10 minutes.

      Wow! Wanted to come see your comment as you referenced having made one. 😀 That is definitely a bad situation. Is EcoFlow unwilling honor the warranty? Unresponsive customer service? Trying to resolve the product issues with firmware updates or not even willing to attempt an update to see if it will fix? Just very curious to know about how they deal with device flaws, if at all.🖤
