    This is a great product for anyone that does not already have a battery bank and inverter and has a small area to cool. if you don't, buy this and an Eco flow power station together, or the battery they made for it. If you already have a battery bank and inverter you should just get a cheaper inverter window unit for around 400 dollars, you will have more btus which is how you measure cooling capacity. 12000 btus is 1 ton of cooling which will cool 500 square ft. this unit is 1/3 ton so it is made to cool about 200 sqaure ft area.

    • @gary860
      @gary860 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I disagree regarding buying the attached battery. It is an $800 to $900 battery who’s sole purpose is to power the EcoFlow Wave. If the Wave breaks, the battery is useless. You are paying a lot of money for a battery that you will probably use only 3 months a year. EcoFlow could easily had given the battery the capability to charge a phone, tablet, or computer. I would only consider buying this if you had a real need and had a Delta Max or Delta Pro. Otherwise it is way too much money if you have to buy a battery that does nothing else but run the Wave for 3 months a year. I predict EcoFlow will have to give the battery more capability and I would hold off buying it until they do. They rushed this product to the market place without responding to any questions. I think it will impact their sales.

    • @jw3843
      @jw3843 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@gary860 Well, I agree with you on the battery. Which is why I suggested the delta power station first. I would always choose the power station over the battery they made for this unit. Personally, this thing is way to expensive for what it does, same with the zero breeze, this is not new tech, It is just very expensive for less cooling than with a window unit. But you still save money buying this if you dont already have a set up with batteries and an inverter than buying this and a whole battery system and everything you need to charge it.

    The manufacturers need to understand that solar generators are largely used in emergencies and need a variety of charging and supplemental battery options. Users will reward those that give them more options! I wish for "junk charging" and "junk supplemental battery" ports that can take anything from 10v DC to 120v DC. :)

      I have to agree it already comes with a way to run off universal AC. If you want to run off DC your options are to do what I show in this video, get their $600 battery, or one of their Delta products. Ecoflow has always been the higher priced "Apple" of the battery brands and many have no problem paying the premium for higher end products. Ecoflow has no incentive to allow folks to use other brands to run their a/c.

    I have tested some window ACs and it used less power with the fan on high since the inside and outside fan are coupled if you turn the fan to low the power drops but it climbs back up because the outside fan is slower and I assume the pressures get higher and the compressor has to work harder and it wasn't a big difference but it was there and not working the compressor harder is probably a good thing

    Hobo, quick question: I’ve got the wave packaged with the Delta Max. Following the directions, I connected the extra battery cable from the wave to the delta max. The wave powers up but won’t engage the fan or compressor. But when I connect the ac cord and run that to the Max, works fine. The instructions are incorrect.

      Ecoflow has always been the higher priced "Apple" of the battery brands and many have no problem paying the premium for higher end products. • @HOBOTECH
      @HOBOTECH  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Actually a pair of Delta Pro with the double voltage hub for 240v operation would be under $8000. If you want to run for days on emergency power then yes you would want to add batteries to that. However, to run my 240v house for days cost me well over $25k in DIY equipment and that's building my own batteries from raw cells so is Ecoflow really that much more?

    • @markjob6354
      @markjob6354 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HOBOTECH I would say no, but my point is the whole setup is still costing such a high premium that there are not many folks who can afford to shell out this kind of money. There's the $8,000.00 USD just to get you in the door with a functional system which will run your entire house for a few hours, then there's the real cost you need to pay in order to buy enough battery storage to facilitate a practical running time, and then there's the need to feed that extra battery system with enough solar panels to actually keep that system in full opeartion (2,500 + Watts of panels at least). It's an entreprise operation solution required. This is just too complicated and too much cash for the average person. Hopefully, in the future, we will have more affordable turn key solutions from these same manufacturers ?

    • @HOBOTECH
      @HOBOTECH  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@markjob6354 This is actually one of the SIMPLEST solutions for home backup which is why it costs more. If you go the DIY route it will save you money assuming you know what you're actually doing which most don't. DIY can get extremely complicated. These Ecoflow units are meant for emergency use to power critical loads during a blackout and not a 30kwh/day home with every appliance running. For that you need a $50k+ solution. Apples to oranges. If you do wire the Ecoflow into your home you can write off 26% of the cost of the entire system (including panels) through the current federal solar tax credit. Ecoflow grosses tens of millions in sales per year so someone has to be buying them...

    I get why EcoFlow does this. When a compressor kicks on, there is a heavy load; unless the power input can handle it, there could be issues. For a battery, the BMS might not be able to handle the load. I will use a power inverter feed by a battery. I know there will be some loss from the inverter, but it is a HELL of a lot cheaper than the $800.00 battery add-on. targeting 800-1000w inverter. I'll test with a Giandel 600w with a surge capacity of 1200w first.

    The part where you connect 24VDC to the wave while it is running and demonstrate a readout on the wave indicating a longer run time is encouraging. Ecoflow said on their FB forum that you could not simultaneously run the unit and charge the battery with the DC cable. They said this was due to the 200w solar charging limitation. So I assumed that while the unit was running that the DC charging circuit would be disabled.

    Hi! I was wondering if you seen my question on your review of the new Jackery? I have a trailer with factory solar. I also have a Jackery and Jackery solar panel. I had a solar plug put on my trailer to use a solar suitcase for more charging power. I like to use the Jackery solar panel but … it has that dedicated 8 mm plug and does not have a controller attached. What adapters do I need to run the panel to the controller then to the plug??? I think the hard part is the solar panel to controller.

    • @twloughlin
      @twloughlin 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If I am understanding your question correctly, we would have to know what type of solar plug you have installed on your trailer, and if that plug runs directly to a solar controller or not. The short answer is that you'll need an adapter that converts the Jackery's 8mm barrel plug to whatever type of solar plug is on your trailer. The proper path should be: solar panel ->adapter->solar plug->controller->battery. If it's one of those Zamp solar plugs, you may have to replace that as well with something less proprietary.

    • @tjphoto8943
      @tjphoto8943 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@twloughlin Yes this was an add on plug which looks like that typical m4 plug. When it was added it was hooked directly to the battery. Your answer in what order it goes really helps. Most suitcase solar have the controller on the backside of panel. Working with the Jackery panel.
      So in this case and with suitcase with a built on controller…. The controller is what plugs in to outside of rv. The solar panel is plug into the controller. Does that sound right. ??? If so I need an adapter for the solar panel with 8mm female and on the other end just wire ends. Then I need a cable that is wire ends with a M4 connector at the other end for the rv plug. ??????

    • @twloughlin
      @twloughlin 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tjphoto8943 Assuming you are working with a solar suitcase that has a controller on the back and NOT the Jackery panel, my guess is that all you would need would be an adapter from the PV output wire of the suitcase solar panel (is it an 8mm barrel plug?) to convert it to an MP4 plug that will plug into your trailer's solar plug. Obviously you need to make sure that the male/female connections are correct (only one way they can plug together) and you have the correct polarity going into the trailer plug. Prof. Hobo has a slew of adapters on his page (see his link above); one of them should probably work. Using the Jackery would require that you have an external solar controller mounted somewhere between the solar panel and the plug. Since you say the plug is hardwired to the battery, the controller has to be installed before the plug. The Professor has solar controllers on his Amazon page as well. I hope I've understood you correctly.

    Those pins are definitely data pins. It may short some of those pins to turn it on. With a schematic, it's probably possible, but obviously not recommended. The 24V battery idea is good, but I'm not sure if I would trust the regulation circutry on the solar charge controller. I'd probably put some sort of current limiter in front of it for safety. They sell bundles with expensive battery generators and don't explain why you should get the generator too. Its NOT just for running the a/c but has a million uses of its own including home backup. This is what folks are paying for. Most just look at how much it costs with a battery generator and say "I'm not paying $2500 for an air conditioner!" when the reality is the a/c is actually just an add-on product!

If they made it 16A it would have been perfect for DIY battery (solar) hookup and a lot more of these standalone Ecoflow AC´s with battery would be sold. Now you can´t run it indefinitely on DC, still have to buy an included battery and use it only with AC wall power.
