Oh, I like it! Instead of having to wear a face shield I can see you building a Plexiglas 'cover' like you see at a self serve counter where it would protect your upper body and face from flying debris but opened so your hands can still reach in and work. Good score for sure.
Todd I remember back in high school using the lathe to make a set of wooden plates for cheese and cutting boards and all I did was glued some pieces of wood together and then shaped it thanks for bringing back some memories

Suggestion: use fine steel wool to clean the bed rails and coat with "dri-lube" (used to lube firearms to avoid dust collection). You can use acetone or mineral spirits to remove if it's not to your liking. Love old tools - kind regards.
The only "chuck" that is required will be ones that are larger or smaller depending on the size of the work you are doing. As far as tools go I would buy a flat tool about 1.5 inches long. It appears that the longest one in you tool set is about .5 to 1" long. Then go out to your wood pile (burning wood pile) select a branch about 3" to 5" in diameter install it in the lathe and have at it. Use you new long tool and debark then make round then have fun. Best way to learn is watch a few videos on U Tube and carry on. You could even make a new handle for a shovel if one broke. The lathe looks long enough. Have fun. God Bless Joe Scott

This was manufactured by King Seely Corporation for Sears between 1949 and 1957, so it has some age to it!
