Aspiring junior players need to learn from meddy. Yes big 3 are awesome, alcaraz sinner rune are also awesome but they’re extremely talented and only a few can have that god given talent. I am so proud of meddy when he defeated alcaraz in USO 2023. Everyone was rooting for alcaraz djokovic final but meddy was able to pull the upset.

Meds is one of the few modern players we can truly call an innovator. He changed the geometry of the game with that deep, time gaining receiving position. He looks lanky and awkward but his relentless engine, foot speed and accuracy have made the guy a bone-fide star. The beauty of tennis is in its variety, I think. You have guys from 5’7 to well above 6’ playing professionally, which goes to show that work ethic, court IQ and true grit matter more than physical talent alone.
Nadal has been receiving deep for decades. And wawrinka. And gasquet. He didnt innovate nothing but god awful technique. He is super good at winning, but at 'tennis' he makes it look bad. Dont say its cause of his height cause Marat Safin, Delpotro, Raonic all had awesome style to watch esp raonic when hes on point.

I usually prefer watching more powerful players or guys who have ways to finish points, but Medvedev for some reason is just entertaining to me. I think it’s the unorthodox ground strokes where every shot you wonder how he gets the ball back, yet he is more consistent than basically anyone on tour. Also his super flat hitting makes his shots look like lasers, especially when he’s 30 feet behind the baseline. It’s so unorthodox but fascinating when he’s on top of his game.
Daniil has exceptional ball striking ability even for a top tier atp player, I imagine its a product of superior hand eye coordination and a kind of NBA level athleticism I mean the guy just has a great engine he breaks down his opponents so often or comes back when he's down so often in matches aganist quality oppents plus excellent mental strength.
I may not like his style, but Danil is an entertaining and crafty player. I won't justify his deliberate gamesmanship in some tight matches, but his talents cannot be denied.
I love danil, i have his signature hes so nice had a full on chat with him for me it was amazing hoping to be in the same position as him someday getting so close to grand slams.

They aren’t trying to nurture a pre conceived idea of what a stroke needs to be, they are simply nurturing the natural mechanics of their child, stopping any outside influence on what is right and what is wrong and nobody know that better than a parent.
1:50 this is what I EXACTLY thought when I saw him play 3-4 5 setter match this season (AO) . Like man that’s why I love him sooo much as a player and a person😌💗he never gives up until it’s over. I think it was 2018 indian wells, i was watching on one of the small stadiums and wasn't crowded so i sat up close. Mevedev coach sat right in front of me. Mevedev got destroyed the first set, but lost second set very close. I thought this guy had weird techniques but pretty effective. I said to the coach after the match, hey nice effort that second set. Here we are yrs later and mevedev is a top player and i cant even remember who he lost to that day back then.

I played some junior tennis and lost to a guy who played like an uncoordinated dufus as compared to my "smooth, well-trained game." Afterwards, I told my mother "I wish he would take some lessons so I could beat him." I really doesn't matter what you look like out there, its about winning. FWIW, I love Meddy on/off the court.
It's mostly about grid, determination and tenacity IF you can outlast your opponent you're probably going to succeed in life! Medvedev definitely has those qualities!

The 2022 AO loss is still heartbreaking, I think the world didn’t want a Russian tennis king and the negative energy got to him 😭Novak fans didn’t want him to be No1 and Nadal fans wanted their hero to claim the 21 Grand Slam, a Russian fighting with the whole world and lost
He started to cramp, and it wasn’t that the crowd were hostile, but that Nadal’s comeback was one of the most stunning, ever, so Rafa enjoyed very vocal support. Still, he has suffered some very tough losses and keeps fighting. Personally I love the guy and think he is great for the sport.
The most interesting cases are the ones where the player doesn't show some great potential, people don't expect anything from him and he ends up being one of the best in the world.
It's very difficult for me to figure out how can Medvedev replace somebody like Federer, who moreover would've been very likely Medvedev's absolute kryptonite, if he was still playing.

Some styles of playing take longer to develop. Shapovalov is a good example of having a style that peaks young but faulters after a few years on the tour
Shapovalov has exceptional talent, exceptional skills in timing and in creating lightning fast racquet swings, but he developed bad habits in his footwork, which take consistency completely away from his shot making... that's not a problem of early peaking, it's a quite obvious consistency problem which got quickly discovered and then exploited from opponents. Far too much jumping, far too scarce contact with the ground. Just see any video from Shapovalov (except some more recent matches in which he tried hard to avoid that continuous jumping, sometimes with excellent results), and then compare his movement to young Federer's one, which is quite the opposite... both two very good movers, but one of them has a footwork style which is very bad for consistency. It's apparent that he knows this problem very well nowadays, because he has repeatedly tried to radically change that very risky "jumping" habit (in last 2/3 years, his best results consistently came with evident tweakings of his footwork)... but that's not simple at all, and when things get more difficult, he starts losing contact with the ground again, exponentially rising his error rate. I really hope he can soon fix that problem for good.

I first disliked him when I started paying attention to the tour years back. His manners, attitude, etc that I would see just didn’t look good to me. But watching my favorite players these past years, I’d always notice Medvedev would be there at the same level. I started paying attention more to Medvedev and well, it was entertaining. His matches, attitude, press conferences, were entertaining. He was funny and growing as a tennis player myself, I understood the things he complained about.
He is a very effective player, with great athletic skills and a master of fast pace flat shots from the baseline. But he is the most INCOMPLETE player that has reached world No1, in terms of game/skills variety: he doesn't change the pace with slice shots, very rarely with flat/heavy top spin changes and he is UNABLE to step up to the net to finish a point after hitting a short ball from 2m inside the base line. He still manages to win most of these points without a volley, but sometimes after spending more energy than any other elite level player. That's why his matches last longer; in 2024 AO he spent nearly 6 hours more time on court than Sinner and probably lost because he ran out of energy. So, his lack of variety makes him one of the least pleasant to watch among the elite players.
Meddy biggest weapon is fast court. He always do well in fast court because fast court ball move faster which suits his style of Play. Meddy doesn't have power so fast court does help his game.
He plays effectively, but I still don't like watching his form. I continue to to watch him while scratching my head, his overall movement would leave you thinking there's was no way he'd continually win matches, but the dude has perfected his weird style.
I always think that next to his anticipation the main reason Medvedev wins so much is exactly because of his weird technique. Opponents just cannot read it and at that level, the pace is so high, you really have to read the opponent to be able to start running to the ball in time. Because opponents react like 0.1s later than they should, their footwork is always a bit less than it should and that is why they lose.
When you said the best players were also the best junior, that is just incredibly wrong. Nadal did not play in the junior tournaments and Djokovic was not a prominent top junior. When we look at the only top junior to reach the top of the game since late 70s are McEnroe, Borg, Wilander, Edberg, Becker, Lendl, Federer, Roddick and Murray. Djokovic's best junior ranking is No.24. In the last forty years only 23% of junior grand slam champions went on to reach top 10 in the world and this is for both sex. So junior success does not translate to success in senior level .
Ah if you get to the top 100 at juniors you are doing alright man. I mean hundreds of thousands of kids play tennis all over the world, so to reach that level is on its own a level of success most will never know. But you are right, top Juniors don’t always have great careers as Adult pros, but it does still remain a pretty reliable predictor of success.
It's not true. Djokovic had excellent results at U14 and U16 levels. He only had AO semis in 3 slams, but this is not Medvedev's 3rd rounds. Nadal also had excellent results at U14 level. He turned professional after that, but at the age of 16 he played 2 junior tournaments, reached Wimbledon semis and won Davis Cup. It seems to me that Medvedev's weak results in the juniors are unique for a player who has achieved so much on the senior tour. That's how important the mind and mentality are.
@@osmotreno improvement also. There are players who are really good and promising at the age of 19, 20, 21 but then they reach their limit and stagnate. Medvedev wasn't great when he started out, he was just ok, but he improved so much that he became a top 5 player who played in 6 Grand Slam finals and won 1, and he beat Đoković in that one Grand Slam final.

Medvedev may have 1 more GS in him, but no more than that. It is not his fault; Sinner, Alcaraz, Rune, and even Zverev look more likely to take GS titles.

When we look at the only top junior to reach the top of the game since late 70s are McEnroe, Borg, Wilander, Edberg, Becker, Lendl, Federer, Roddick and Murray. Djokovic's best junior ranking is No.24. In the last forty years only 23% of junior grand slam champions went on to reach top 10 in the world and this is for both sex. So junior success does not translate to success in senior level .
Ah if you get to the top 100 at juniors you are doing alright man. I mean hundreds of thousands of kids play tennis all over the world, so to reach that level is on its own a level of success most will never know. But you are right, top Juniors don’t always have great careers as Adult pros, but it does still remain a pretty reliable predictor of success.
It's not true. Djokovic had excellent results at U14 and U16 levels. He only had AO semis in 3 slams, but this is not Medvedev's 3rd rounds. Nadal also had excellent results at U14 level. He turned professional after that, but at the age of 16 he played 2 junior tournaments, reached Wimbledon semis and won Davis Cup.
It seems to me that Medvedev's weak results in the juniors are unique for a player who has achieved so much on the senior tour. That's how important the mind and mentality are.
@@osmotreno improvement also. There are players who are really good and promising at the age of 19, 20, 21 but then they reach their limit and stagnate. Medvedev wasn't great when he started out, he was just ok, but he improved so much that he became a top 5 player who played in 6 Grand Slam finals and won 1, and he beat Đoković in that one Grand Slam final.

after watching 8 years of Federer plus his prime years highlihghts, i saw this guy and turned the tv off. Watching federer sets your expectations to the absolute highest. I refuse to watch him. Nice guy. Great at playing tennis. The last guy i want to look like on the court.

Forget about rune man, he is over hype and doesn't have champion / grand slam winner mindset. Been always saying that since last year. The other players you mention will win more grand slams, except Zverev I am not sure (he might but it is less likely that Zverev wins

He's one of those new nice guys... who tend to turn into hysterical little brats when things don't go their way. There are a few to name here, but you know them. His tennis is indeed very effective, and makes me want to watch darts meanwhile.
