    CURRENT SCHEDULE
    Expect a new video every Sunday and Wednesday at 11AM Central!
    How Farms Work by Ryan Kuster is a TH-cam channel based in rural Potosi, Wisconsin. Our mission is to teach those who didn't grow up on a farm what the farming life is like. These videos show the Kuster family working together raising cattle and crops. We believe everyone who wants to know more about farming should be able to share the farming experience with us and we look to educate the world on many essential agriculture topics.
    How Farms Work takes place on ~1,100 acres with around 75-200 cattle at any given time. Four John Deere tractors are currently used on the farm, which are a 4020, 4640, 7600, and 8235R.

    I'm a couple months behind on videos, but Travis made the comment about it counting more acres...I noticed in previous videos that you have the head width set to 30'. While it is a '30 foot' head, I bet if you measure inside of snout to inside snout, it'll be less. We set our 25' head as 24' cut.

Was cool you responded to some of the questions about the bean head in this video, I think it shows that your followers such as myself are just as invested in your operation to do better and that you seem to appreciate it right back.

    First thing to do if you decide to change heads is get a draper... worry about an air reel later if necessary. A good draper head like a Macdon will help the combine perform better and reduce some header loss versus an auger head. One thing about air reels is the extra system on the machine (more weight, more power needed, extra things to go wrong), but they will pay for themselves eventually.

    • @MorganOtt-ne1qj

      Flex heads use auger's to feed , just like rigid heads. 👍

      @@MorganOtt-ne1qj how can it flex if it has an auger which can't flex? Show me a link to a flex head with an auger

    • @MorganOtt-ne1qj
      @MorganOtt-ne1qj 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@darkrevenger04 the floor that the cutter rides on flexes in small sections and allows for following the contour of the ground within a given parameter. Auger doesn't flex, it remains fixed, but the cutterbar and floor flex. Rigid heads are still in use, and many flex heads can be locked to be rigid. Interesting stuff under a flex head, many different linkages and components. Great question 👍

    • @MorganOtt-ne1qj
      @MorganOtt-ne1qj 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@darkrevenger04 Draper heads use belts to convey crop to the feeder housing, and do allow for more flex across the head. The augers can bunch crop and slug the machine, whereas the belts tend to feed more evenly. Newer models use many of the same sensor points for both draper and flex heads. Hope I helped you out, it's a complicated thing if you have not worked with the stuff. Have a great day! 👍

    My main question is, how do you guys still like the combine? Still happy in your choice? I watch about 3 channels, yours, Brian's, THE GREEN GUY, AND TONY FAST. DIFFERENT AREAS, DIFFERENT CROPS AND DIFFERENT MACHINES. I HAVE ENJOYWD WATCHING YOUR GUYS PROGRESS AND BUILDING OF YOUR FARMS. O agree with your comments about weighing in, SMART ACTUALLY. DUMB QUESTION NOW, What do your soybeans actually get used for? Are they ever used for feed with Vornado for your cattle. I remember my grandpa telling me he use to feed potatoes to his milk cows along with the hay. His was the dairy farm my parents took over and what I grew up on. JUST WONDERING
