IMO one of the best of Polish movies ever :) but its one part of a trilogy, together these 3 movies stand as amazing adaptation of one of Polish classic novels written by H. Sienkiewicz. All 3 stories "Sir Wolodyjowski", "The Deluge" and "With Fire and Sword" are epic stories about wars of 17th century Poland - showing a culture or knightly honor, glory, bravery and betrayal.
This movie is "With Fire And Sword" (the original polish title is "Ogniem i mieczem"). The first part of a trilogy by famous polish writer Henryk Sienkiewicz. The movie is all about the two main characters: Jan Skrzetuski and Helena Kurcewiczówna who met by pure coincidence and have fallen in love. However a mad Cossack warrior Bohun is also in love with Helena and he will literally stop at nothing to have her. And all of that in a war-torn Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. Jan Skrzetuski is no underdog. He's an elite warrior, one of the best in the kingdom. But even he is not omnipotent and there are things he just can't do anything about. Luckily he has his friends that are there for him: very smart although lazy Onufry Zagłoba, extremely deadly fighter Michał Wołodyjowski and tall and strong Longinus Podbipięta. All of them try to learn where the mad Bohun have taken Helena and take her back. All of this while they also have their duties as soldiers trying desperately not to let the war-torn country to collapse. And this is just the first part of the trilogy. The other parts have different stories and only characters of Michał Wołodyjowski and Onufry Zagłoba appear in each one. Second part id "The Deluge" and it happens some time after "With Fire And Sword". The story of Michał Wołodyjowski is finished in the final part of the trilogy, "Sir Wołodyjowski".
The author of this novel, Henryk Sienkiewicz, received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1905 for his lifetime achievement, including the novel "Quo Vadis?", which was adapted into films many times (France 1901; USA 1951; Italy 1912, 1924, 1985; Poland 2001).
With thanks for your ❤ thats my translation of the song : O my falcon cloudy-eyed, Ask about me mountains high, Ask about me wisdom forests, And set me free O my crystal falcon sheer, Ask about me nimble streams, Ask about me flowers of fields And set me free, My beloved… How am I to ask heavenly stars ? They are jealoys of your dowery Four coffers of love And of kindliness of yours, My beloved.. How to ask the other ladies ? They will find my own heart in yours, Although they know they'd not tell me, I would not find you there, O my falcon thunderer, Ask about me fabled steppes, Ask these fragrant herbal weeds, And set me free, Across kurgans burned to ashes, Across hamlets all on fires, I dont know sleep anymore measuring steppes to find you, My beloved, How am I to ask the Moon, He is falling for your orbs, He’ll chase off the Sun Veiling the steppes, I would not find you, My beloved… How am I to ask the Cossak? Who went down with sickly love, He would scorch the world from grief, If he lost you, Me… If I lost you… How am I to ask the Moon, He is falling for your orbs, He’ll chase off the Sun Veiling the steppes, You would not find me, no! We the staring, we the listening, So presently to the limits, In the darkness of Cinema Wipe away our tears, secretly. :)
Are you asking for real? Cause it's even written in the title of the video that it's from "Ogniem i mieczem" XD It's an older classic, an adaptation of one of our famous books from XIX century - an epic about love and war happening few centures earlier.

It is a film about Poland's glory days and the beautiful noble customs of those times. The legacy of those beautiful customs is still cultivated in Polish families in the process of raising children.
I don't know if you can still watch this movie with English subtitles. Until recent was such possibility, but I guess TH-cam delete these materials by copyrights.
The song comes from the film "With Fire and Sword", which is a film adaptation of the novel by Henryk Sienkiewicz, a novelist awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature. The action of the novel takes place in the years 1648-1651, during the Khmelnytsky Uprising in Ukraine, which was then part of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. The remaining parts of the Trilogy are The Deluge and Pan Wołodyjowski. The novel intertwines the thread of Polish-Cossack fights with the love story of Jan Skrzetuski and Helena Kurcewiczówna, and Bohun, hopelessly in love with Helena, who is, of course, on the side of the Cossacks. I don't know about other countries, but in Poland the film is available on Netflix.
piosenka z filmu Ogniem i Mieczem....W której Izabela Skorupko grała Helene Kurcewiczówną czyli sądząc po nazwizku mogła by być moja bardzo daleką krewną :) Kłaniam się wam A. Kurcewicz :)
It's a fantastic movie, the chemistry between them is so good! It's funny but I met the male singer, Mietek Szcześniak, as he came to my High School to perform a concert. Our school's priest invited him, I don't know how they knew each other. And I also met one of the actors, the handsome dark one in this clip, called Bohun in the movie, his real name Aleksandr Domogarov. My aunt used to work in a theatre where he worked, he was very nice and friendly, everybody liked him and thought he was hot.
"Ogniem i Mieczem" is late XIX century patriotic novel by Henryk Sienkiewicz (nobel prize winner for other novel "Quo Vadis"). It's about XVII century cossacks' uprising in Poland-Lithuania - now these lands belongs to Ukraine. Poland had hard times then, having wars against Sweden, Russia and Turkey plus wrong politic of king caused uprising of cossacks against noblemen. Sienkiewicz to all these true stories included a "love story" of Skrzetuski and Helena and in general novel is all about troubles on state level and personal level. It is a first part of trilogy, later Sienkiewicz wrote 2 other novels on the same schema "Potop" and "Pan Wołodyjowski". All 3 were filmed, but in opposite order, "Ogniem i Mieczem" was the last movie about it.
This film is ogniem i mieczem (with fire and sword). This is about Polish lithuanian commonwealth in half of XVII century, when in Poland starts chmielnicki uprising. Sienkiewicz write this to repear Polish People morale
A corrected translation of the lyrics: Oh, my cloudy-eyed Falcon Ask the tall mountains about me Ask the wise forests And set me free Oh, my Falcon, my clear one Ask the swift currents about me Ask the wild flowers And set me free How could I ask the stars, high in the heavens They are envious of your dowry Of four chests, full of love As well as your kindness (My love...) How could I ask other women? (They will see my heart in you) Though they know, they still won't tell me I won't be able to find you... Oh, my Falcon, ruling over thunders Ask the famous steppes about me Ask the fragrant thickets And set me free Through the ashen barrows, Through the hamlets, all in flames, I know not sleep any more, Crossing the steppe To find you... How could I ask the Moon He's in love with your pupils He'll chase down the sun, Cover up the steppes I won't be able to find you... (My love...) How could I ask the Cossack Who fell sickly in love with you He would readily burn down the world from grief If he ever lost you... (My love...)
