…and a virtual morning toast of coronavirus whiskey.
As long as he's not harping on how hot and muggy florida is in July, or the bird attacks, or the killer squirrels and rabbits, or snowflakes... yeah he's Mr. Positive!
I use these videos as an antidote to the British Wildlife Documentaries hosted by Sir David Attenborough . It is here that we learn of the real dangers all around us. Squirrel gangs lurking in the trees, ready to trade a diet of nuts for human flesh. Birds that watch from the tops of Palm trees…biding their time for an opportunity to swoop down with their pointy little beaks to pluck out your eyeballs. Carnivorous cats, slinking along the hedges, all teeth and claws prepared to attack the instant you turn your back to them. Poisonous, black spiders with dripping fangs, webs ready for the next man to choose the wrong opening to relieve himself. The Florida urban jungles might look harmless enough, but danger lurks around every Palm tree, behind every bush and even in the manicured grounds under your feet. Lucky for us, we have Bill from Curious Cars to point the dangers out before we’re on the menu.
Still loving the dark shots, head/tail lights, and all the other intro bits - no one else does it and I really appreciate the fact that you do it, Bill! Brings these cars to life through the screen. The sights and sounds are great.
I'm not sure why but I also love the time he takes showing the lights and the intro in the dark. So thanks Bill for doing it right.
This is a proctologist's car? And his license tag doesn't read "ASS MAN"? 😂
It does say “DR. DUG”, that’s golden. I’m sure “ASS MAN” was taken.😂
Probably a mix up at the DMV, and he's just waiting on them to sort it aht.
"Hey ASS MAN!"
It's possible "ASS MAN" was already on his rear-engine 911 😃
Never tire of Bill gettin' all excited over pop up headlights!!! Don't go changing, Bill!🙌 Like you would, anyway!😅
Bill I'd love to see a late 80's Supra Turbo.
Pop-up headlights and all..
My fav car i ever owned.
Bill is the greatest car reviewer ever! 💪

Hey Bill, I have the red 1987 944S that you reviewed several years back. It’s such a great car!
Great to hear from you - that car is epic. I have a friend who still regrets not jumping on that when I gave him the chance.
Good evening Bill from Ron in a very wet and cold Manchester England
You were in top form on this video, Bill. Great work as always and highly entertaining, though I was ever so slightly disappointed that you didn't show us how miserable the Canadians would be in the back seat. I will find the other 944 reviews as I am sure you touched on it in one of those.
I am not a big Porsche fan and never thought much of these until I saw one in the early 90s. A guy I was in the Navy with had a black 944 turbo with tinted windows that had some suspension and exhaust work done, lowering it just a little bit. It looked absolutely awesome and sounded great.
Every episode makes me yearn for a larger garage 😢.
Army buddy and I circumnavigated Luxemburg in a Euro-spec Porsche 924 Turbo in exactly 24 hours. We left Dusseldorf, Germany at 240 kph with me white-knuckled in the passenger seat. We had a Michelin travel guide, stopped off in Verdun, France and Bastogne, Belgium along the way. Caught a little corner of the Netherlands near Maastricht and got back to his apartment for a well-earned rest. He also had a Euro-spec Porsche 944, plus a very patient wife.
Pair of cool cats, I have a friend who was in the Air Force who was based in Germany, he would take cars back home from Europe, he was also down in Antarctica and commented about the strange stuff there.
What a man.

Like you.
dat is a proper road trip sir
@@princesssolace4337 I was very impressed with the Michelin Road Guide in those days of paper maps and a compass in your car. I remember joking that if we turned on the Porsche's headlights, you could see the glow on the map.
John bought a bust of Marshall de Saxe at an antique shop in Verdun. We drove around the battlefield of Verdun for a bit, mostly cemeteries as I faintly recall now. We slipped into Belgium at an abandoned border crossing, even though this predated the EU, back when collecting stamps in your passport was a big deal. Spent a little time in Bastogne, seeing a memorial tank or two from the Battle of the Bulge. We flashed through that narrow neck of the Netherlands between Belgium and West Germany on our way home to Duesseldorf.
Thanks for this one, Bill.. I was never a huge fan of these, I always thought the 928 was much more interesting, but those were SO goddamn rare that just seeing one was really an event. Ever do a 928? Hope to see one of those if you get a chance, but this car, the 944 is certainly evocative of that early to mid '80s era.. Take care.
@@liberals_destroy_everythin2497 I'm not surprised, I've heard similar stories of 944 owners from 30 odd years ago (especially the ones who worked in advertising). I always thought it was because they didn't have enough money to get a 911 or even a 928, but just had enough money to get the introductory Porsche badge and be a wanker about it with a superiority complex when comparing themselves to anyone who didn't drive an exotically badged car.
The 944 is the Boxter of its time, 928 was the real deal.
Another video from Bill the Great!!! 3 in less than a week!!! Love it!!!
You left out another icon from the same era, the Mitsubishi Starion/Chrysler Conquest TSI. Hopefully you’ll get ahold of one soon.
Killer ants and killer rabbits. The world is a more dangerous place every day.
Loved that car.
People forget how huge it was at the time.
It still looks contemporary. I purchased an '87 in '93 for $13,700 with ~38k miles on it. The sticker MSRP was $38,000 I believe. I was so happy!
Brilliant Bill, cheered me up with another cracking instalment. Your like buses, nothing for a while then two come together! 😂
I inherited my father-in-laws 1983 944 5-spd. In pristine condition. Very fun, quirky German mechanics, but worst aspect is it’s not a 911 and Porsche repair shops are reluctant to service it, and the Porsche fans who all own 911’s ignore it. Oh well, who cares because I enjoy it.
Well, I’ve never heard anyone refer to the 944 as the “Widow-Maker”. Enjoy the balanced German suspension, A/C, actual heat while you’re sitting still and actual luggage space.🤷🏻 Don’t get me wrong; I love and respect the 911.
Another awesome video. They just get better and better. Porsche 944 is a legendary car. Thanks Bill!
Hey Bill, it's going to be a great day when you peel out in Peter's driveway!!! Watch out for those killer gofers, you better call Carl the greens keeper to fix the problem!!! Your Canadians feel cheated because they didn't get a review of the back seat!!! If I were you Bill, I wouldn't go to Canada any time soon!!! 👍👍🙄
We’ll forgive you Bill, but we do like it when you mention us 🇨🇦
Fun Video! But for all the mentions of balance and being a front engined car, not a single remark about the rear transaxle? THAT's where the magic comes from, Bill!
Thanks Bill for another great video! Well done my friend! ❤
Greetings from Slovakia - love your videos, Bill! I couldn't afford a 911, so I went for a 924S instead. What a great underdog of a car, I'm having a lot of fun with it!
I hate when I only have 2/4th of a tank of gas left!
Only thing worse is 6/8ths.
I’ve had over 40 cars. My 944S2C is the best handling, best driving, and best shifting of them all. Budget a $3500 timing belt service every 3 years if you’re looking at getting one.
Who's the U Boat captain? 😅
Don’t forget about “Who’s That Girl” with Madonna. I had an ‘84 in champagne color with brown leather. It had a 5spd and Fuchs staggered rims with body-colored centers. Beautiful car and a great handler.
I do seem to remember that sunroof being advertised as the "Smelly girl ventilation system" 😁
That 4 is about as long as the Mopar slant 6!
It's 2.5 liters, the smallest slant 6 is 2.78 liters.
Good to 👀 hear from you, Bill. Always a treat for your sharing of knowledge, vehicle, and story telling. Classic Porche
We love our Bill!!! ❤
I dislike waiting for that gate to open.
I owned and drove a 96 944 Turbo (951) for about 8 or 9 years. Beautiful auromobile and the best handling I've ever driven. But it was very expensive to maintain. My mechanic told me once that for the upkeep I could have owned a 911 which was a much more expensive car to buy. I think the 951s handling is why I'm still alive as a 911 might have spit me off the road during one of those overly enthusiastic flogs.
I had an 83 dark blue on blue and remember little boys asking me to rev it up when stopping. Loved the car...perfect balance.

I see a yellow & an olive green Pinzgauer hiding off in the corner...the 2L was also found in some old US Mail Jeeps, Bill
When the 944 became too expensive as an entry level Porsche, they brought back the 924 in 1987. The 2.5L engine was put in it as well as four wheel disc brakes. This was the 924S.
Bill. You're such a natural. Love hearing your voice. Are you at the dealership regularly? No, I'm not a stalker. Haha. "If you have a smelly girl with you" @~31 min. Love it!
Nice video Bill, you’re spoiling us this week with Rolls’ and Camaro’s but we love every one. Nice watch too? Take care.
Hey Bill how's things been going good weekend?
I will always love this car, even if all I could get (from 1996 through 2001) was a second-generation RX-7.
Bill, I remember seeing that red plastic panel in the rear that has 944 on it, in the automotive section of Sears catalogs back in the 80's.
The most glaring fault with it's look is the generic looking "944" font on it not matching Porsche's.
I always hated those aftermarket taillight kits in the 80's, still think they are horrible...then the tag is always hanging off the lower bottom. But I'm a stickler for OEM/stock. At that, these taillight kits are the worst auto-parts store aftermarket change of all.
@@KP-zi6jx - Agreed! Pretty much tacky! 🤣
I like it and I am not ashamed to say so. I am a sucker for period correct mods on classic cars, tacky or not. Just gives that extra nostalgia feel to me.
Bill, thank you for sharing. I have a 91 S2... Absolute money Pitt but makes me smile
I can attest to bill’s statement on high maintenance. Bought a rough 944 in the mid 90’s. Got it for $1800, then it cost me 3k to get it somewhat right. What a nightmare. Never enjoyed driving it either. Too cramped in the driver compartment
Porsche really shoved it up the purists ass when they came out with four-door cars and SUVs.
I'm 52, have owned 51 cars and the 944 has been my favorite.
Great car, looks right at home among the palms and south Florida snow 👃 😉
Bill, thanks for the Monday reprieve! Best to you and your watchers.
Loved your vid and houmer .im getting one in Oct 6th ,had a.944 turbo and a 996 in the eighties .
I'm good w my 83. Weak headlights, short first gear, limited HP,
Fun AF
Bill is the kind of guy to sit back and enjoy some whiskey & a cigarette as Ulf gets mauled by a duck.
Bill the kinda guy who would wait until the attack is over and then roast the duck for dinner! 😂
But what about the mood of the backseat Canadians? I must know or I cant go to sleep tonight!
My mom had one back in the day. Charcoal Grey with matching Fuchs wheels. I wrecked it, unfortunately. Beautiful driving car. Great car and coming around but one big problem. It cost as much as any other Porsche to restore and sells for much less than other Porsches.
I love the 944 so much! A very special car to me because it reminds me of my deceased father
Don't do that to the clutch.
European gear heads now love the 924
I say welcome, welcome to the boomtown. All that money makes such a succulent sound.😄
Well done, Bill….Always felt they should have kept the 944/968 series going…granted the pop headlights would be gone, but the general shape could have stayed.
I think it was way too expensive to produce. Even a new front engine platform doesnt make as much sense as one that can parts share with the 911 like the boxster was able to.
"machine gun turrents extra"
excellent as always
Absolute eye candy to me!!! Love those wheels
Bill Should Write a Book Title, Mr Positivity 😁😂 I would buy it.
They were really well built cars as long as you kept them from rusting.
Wow David&David quote, I have their two albums lol but they were a good group and that was such a good song too. Nice review
OMG miss my 1987 944s and my 1988 911 both gone 😭😭😭
Bill, a true wildlife expert 🥸👍🏼
🤣
Mr. Bill you are soooooo positive. Funny when these cars came out, I just didn't think much of them. But now I think they are cool as hell. Thanks for the vid.
Same here. 914 even less. But now? I love 914s and these 944s, 924s.
The 944 does light up, i think its cool
Am I the only one who misses Bill's rants about shitty, hot, miserable weather?
Bill, speaking of the Mazda RX7, why haven't you reviewed one?! It's a very curious car for sure!! You'll do a Miata but not an RX7?! What the hell?!
There would be a piece of black tape over that upshift arrow.
No, we all miss Bill. I wish there were more new videos but I go back and watch the older ones to take up the time betwixt new videos.
I really like the 944. An ex-military guy I knew used to service my car and he had one. He liked it because it was "proper car" 31:37 Sun roof tilt "if you have a smelly girl with you" hahaha
Peter needs to get some Anderson's Duocide for those ants.
Having owned a 968, I have to say it was never "right". My biggest complaint was the horrible "Tramming". It always followed the grooves in the road. I spend plenty of $$$ on the car, it was well maintained but for God's sakes, even my classic XK-E had better road manners. Getting a few more ponies out of it was also a challenge and really expensive
I love the American stuff because I don’t know much about it. I REALLY LOVE the German stuff because I do not quite a bit about it! Great stuff Bill
Bill do a Mark 1 Scirocco!
which Porsche model was in "Sixteen Candles" again?
83'
Never grew on me. But id take it
Dr. DUG the proctologist!
On paper, this is the perfect sports car. But, I found it pretty mundane to drive as a normal car. I loved my 300ZX turbo, which made driving so much fun.
also... could do less than 8 second 0-to 60 in a shelby colt turbo (1984) GTS
One of the best looking cars Porsche ever made.....next to my 987.1 Cayman!
Had a 924turbo Euro spec and a 944 turbo.
I’m an ex Porsche technician & can say in all honesty that the 911 couldn’t compete with the 944 turbo which was really fast, had fabulous handling & brakes, was built really well at an Audi factory and didn’t rust, unlike the 911 which was on a mission to kill you, had major oil leak issues, rusted away (not here in Greece admittedly), & the build quality was average at best
Bill, the cars development code was EA425 not EX425, that keyhole is the factory alarm system, rare option in Europe.
The European version had 163 horsepower
In my opinion, the 87 944 was the best looking Porsche ever. The sleek flared fenders and sleek and muscular body shape made for a beautiful car. Always thought the 911 looked like a bug or frog due to the headlights.
Hi Bill
17:39 ..yeah these people who say they are a bargains, not as much as they were in years gone by. Looking at old car trading mags, and seeing my old print outs of early internet car sites it's not really now, they're not a bargain (even though they'll continue to trend upward over the next decades)... Looking at old ads seems second hand 70s 80s and early 90s air and water cooled Porsches were lowest in the late 90s early 2000s before the internet really took off.
The internet classifieds and internet video sites have now killed the old deals because everybody got on board and dreamed of one day owning a second hand Porsche, and every seller knows this, and they rode up the market with big increased asking prices from about 2015 onwards. In Australia 928GTSs were about $35,000 early 2000s, now about $150,000.
Am I bitching about? Yeah kind of. Do I care? Not really, that's the way the market works.
I agree with you on the service maintenance attitude with these tired examples. One also doesn't have to be so precious with those tired cars that you are learning to work on.
924 ? My god looking at it from that picture you showed my god it looks like a strechted out 3 cylinder šprint 😅😅😅😅😅😅😅 .... The wheels of the 924 looked hidden inside the wheel well my god what an ugly car
My girlfriend had a 944 Turbo S. A very fun, fast, east to drive car. Really handsome with those fenders.
The sunroof when open put out a hellacious loud throb until one also brought down the windows some. That was the only negative.
Until it became a money pit despite persnickety adherence to scheduled and otherwise maintenance.
Fun while it lasted.
I always joke that the 944 was Porsches first truck. I had a ‘87 944s that I could get track tires, tools, and clothes in the back for track day weekends. Yeah the maintenance was expensive but loved it for the 10 years I owned it. The downside for owning one now would be trying to find parts for it as with all older cars the supply starts drying up and the price for parts goes up.
Bill, we absolutely want a 90 minute video re: Robert the Pollock! Make it happen so we can enjoy 💯
At 0:30 i would have just stayed in the car......and prayed.
Everyone wanted on if these back then. A red one.
Eh.. Not really.. Some did, others were quite happy with other rides.
4:45 This is unbelievable, I am watching this on my phone from my bed right now because I have a health issue where I need a proctologist, but it's the weekend, so all I can do is wait in silence til Monday. The fact that this car was possibly owned by one is crazy.
Bill huge fan! I would love to see a video on 1988 Pontiac Fiero GT. One of my favorite cars of all time. I also love the way when doing a car, you go over a history. You talk about good and bad like it should be done.
BILL no body I mean no one does a review better, hope I purchase some cars from you 2024. Awesome video Bill as ever.
ANOTHER Great review !
I'm not a Porche fan, however I did come for Bill.
so which car is your fav then?
None LOL. @@SAMMYJR00777
Had an 87 944 - a showy, fun car. Hit by an uninsured motorist and totaled. Replaced by a Maserati BiTurbo Si. At least the Porsche ran...
Yep, fond memories of a tiny dream.
i beat the 924 with a plymouth horizon tc3 2.2 4 sped from 1981 (84 hp)
I haven’t seen ANY 944s on the road here in the Northeast in the past 30 years. What happened to them all ? Rust ? Did they all fly south ?
Ms. Christina drives a 944, satisfaction oozes from her pores.
Loved it. Had 944 turbo , met Gold ,got me out of bed every day for work.😂❤❤
This and the 968 are on my bucket list of Porsches that I could actually buy, drive and then fix (hence no 928) without going broke. Had a realtor friend who'd bought one just to take out Sundays - I was hooked. Not so expensive I'd never use it, and there's garage support in my area. BGen X here, and while back in the day I used to dream of an old 911 - but they got older, so did I and only one of us appreciated in value.
Maintenance is very important. I learned the hard way
I was never a big fan of Porches but I do remember these in the 80s and if I saw a nice one at a car cruise, I'd be sure check it out.
I'm always thwarted, too-- nice to meet you, brother!
