- My absolute favourite RC car in the fleet. When she's running. but pulling the diff out of one of these BAJA REYs is just a total pain. Great RC to drive, horrible to work on.

I was on the freeway a couple days ago and saw a box on the shoulder.
I turned around and drove by again, it was a Losi Baja Rey!!! But the box was empty.
I was so hyped for like 2 minutes hahaha
A FYI for other Baja rey owners the crunch kpop is talking about in my opinion has more to do with Losi's selection of grease and how it reacts with diff fluid at high temps. After some heavy running on every baja rey I have seen you hear this crunch from the front diff. I did a full rebuild on my v1 Losi Baja Rey and showed where this sound is coming from and why. The fluid and grease starts to get tacky/sticky very sticky and causes the gears to stick. With fresh fluid in the same case with the same gears completely eliminates the crunchy sound. Bro, Do you know how he did the 17mm hex conversion. Obviously, there are tons of 12-17mm hex conversions. We also know the baja rey runs 8mm screws on the end of the hex which is thicker than your traxxas 12mm hex screws. Can you tell what he used to make those Hoons fit?

Great video. I just got mine LBR 2.0 and would like to put 17mm wheels. What I found is that the stock ends are much thicker than a regular and I can not fit the Amazon adapters on because the nut is 8mm. can you tell me what you used to get those hoons to fit? Also; what are the aluminum wheels and tires are you running? Thanks in advance!
They are a pain to work on. You got er done. You can get the cage and body off in once piece and its a lot easier to get at it all, just an SCT at that point. Respect from Nor Cal
How do you deal with the wires for the lights tho?
The left front is REALLY off balance. I'm guessing it's water in the tire but it looked like it was shaking the car apart.
The Exotek diff case won't fit in the rear position of the baja rey without reworking the internals a bit. The input pinion is different than that used in the middle and front diffs, and the large shim/washer will not fit into the exotek case without sanding it down in size a bit. I put it on a bolt, put the bolt into a drill and sanded the edge down so that the piece would fit into the exotek case. I agree this truck is more difficult to work on, but once you figure it out you can remove the shell and cage with ~8 screws. Its a great truck to drive

What weight diff oil was that?? I just got mine the other day and all three diffs are way too loose I have some 10k diff oil I think I'm gonna put in I just started tearing mine down. Got the middle diff our now just need to do the rear and front plus put new oil in them.
10k in the front i believe.

yeah. they're the cheap amazon ones. where the lock nut plastic doesn't thread on the axle end. so i wouldn't recommend them. looks like there are some with a deep nut that inserts itself and lengthens the axle end.
Big question Wich adapter hex you use for the 17mm hoons tires
Machining down the lock nuts seems to be the only way to get these to even fit. because even with adapters the threads from the axles aren't long enough.
i noticed running 3s it is destroying diffs quick , would the metal diff cup remedy this ??

it should. the plastic cups are super weak.
How much differential oil did you use?
I wish he would have gone into greater detail on some of the details. I did a pretty extensive video on the diffs you can check out might help go over all the fluids and parts.
Where did you get the skid plate ?
ebay. but it sucks. because you have to take the whole thing off to reach the cage screws. instead of using the cage screws as what holds the plate on.. also it's soft as hell.
did you get to a point when it is stable and runs without breaking? Mine is a nightmare, 2 runs and a major cost / fix comes up and the time to fix is way more than run time. I'm torn between calling my loss or over investing to replace it all but then...might has well make one from scratch :(
yeah. the major thing is diffs. and 3rd member. some dudes sell a strengthening beam on the back to help stop the cage from snapping. other then that.. don't land on power.
