Great trip. I went out that day too and it was awesome. Thanks for the heads up on the eel. Good to know they catch fish. I find it hard to cast it any decent distance but fish were all hitting in the beach lip so i should have tried it.
Nice one Les, I have been eyeing that lure for obvious reasons ( the look ), however rumor has it that it casts like wet tissue paper. Cannot really see the casting range on the video, what are your thoughts on the casting range? Certainly commend your efforts, given you are more likely to cull bigger fish, the green diamond jig crew is only enjoying small schoolies.
It def doesn't cast as far as some lures but I had the wind on my back that day so it helped it get out there further. I was using the 7" model, the 8" is slightly heavier and may cast further. I did pick up a pack of the 8" to try another time. I did fish the other day using the 7" and was out catching everyone else and got into slightly larger fish. That video should be up soon as I still need to edit. Thanks for watching and tight lines!
I wouldn’t say well past cause some of my hits came as the lure landed in water in some instances but yeah that day they were much closer and there wasn’t much a sand bar.
It's an unusually late fall run. The stripers are feeding on Sand Eels. I wanted to match the hatch so I used the Tsunami 7" Sand Eels with great success. Although I did miss the first cast fish which I estimated to be around 15-20 lbs. It's a long video as I did catch many fish on this day. Enjoy... Shame about that first one, Ive been there and know a decent fish by that initial first take and drag...that was a good fish Les, which are hard to come by these days.
I also have the 9L. I use that on the north shore more and the 9M at montauk and south shores. I have the 10L also. It’s good also but I prefer 9 to 9-1/2’ rods.
Next time take the same bait, twice the size. Start with the smaller one to find the fish and then go jumbo! Where there are small strippers, there are large. Check out the book "the right stuff" by Shawn Kimbro dude...
Ok I see it now. Disregard. Looking at the 10ft gsb 1-3 oz lure rating. It listed as light power? I prefer to get Medium power but the lure rating goes up to 2-5 ox.. I normally cast bucktails soft baits and assorted super strikes up to 3oz a17 and 27s. What do u think? Thanks
I'm using the 9' GSB91MS. I would ignore the power rating and look at the lure casting weight instead. The 10' 1-3oz would be perfect. The 2-5oz models for me I would never probably use as I never use anything over 3oz. I throw 3/4th to 2oz mostly.
Reason you lost that first fish is your hook set is rather weak sure you’ll catch fish but you’ll lose more pit a lil better swing on that hook set remember bigger fish have harder mouths just a lil fyi from a old salt
Les Wang Fishing Hello good video and you are very lucky to fish and I would like to know if you can give me the address I would like to go try your luck in that place
I really like that you gave the information about the weather conditions , time of the year, and you gears.
That first fish was a decent size for sure, nice vid Les
Love how you put the time! A++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Love the vid bud. Keep up the great work. I just subscribed to the channel.

Perfecting plugging reel
good to see a healthy population of Strippers
Ah man that sucks that first fish came off!! I feel your pain lol
the 6 inch Tsunami sand eel work well for schoolie bass too!
Haha! Typical fisherman. Catch a bazillion fish in a few hours, but that one fish that came off still haunts you. Tight lines !
A shame that first one got off but looked like a very good trip. There has been a few good size fish taken on south shore.
I caught a nice 35 inch striped bass on the south shore, Rexham beach marshfeild.
I’m also a lover of the spyheros.

He was casting well past the "strike zone", so distance didn't matter here.

Great catches... Are you using straight bread to the lure?
No I use a 80lb Spro swivel flouro about 3 feet and a 75# TA clip.
Dammmmm papa good jod.....
Les I forgot. What watch was that you wore? Looks interesting, with info.
It’s the Apple Series 4.
Thanks.
which months of striper season are the best to use the Tsunami sand eels?
Towards the fall around late October is when they sandeels are around.
How do you feel about that rod for heavy bass say 36 inches or larger?
The GSB 9M could handle a 50” bass easily. I’ve caught 46” on it my largest and it wasn’t an issue.
@@LesFishingMoreCatching thanks for the quick reply. I’m actually purchasing one later on today from someone local. Your response helped.

GSB aye I knew it lol
Might’ve foul hooked the first one
I really never foul hooked a striper on a slow retrieve with a single hook. But it’s possible.
That's not a slow retrieve, I would retrieve it slower.
THE ONLY THING I NOTICE NO ONE MENTION THE SITE OR THE SPECIFIC PLACE THEIR SURF FISHING.
Were you fishing incoming or outgoing.?
Outgoing low tide was 7pm that day.
Which size and lamiglass gsb model are you using? Thanks

How do you like that reel?
The Shimano Spheros SW 6000 is great. This is the jdm version. I got a video on it where I added more bearings and changed the drag stack.
Les Wang Fishing Thanks,I’ll check it out. I’m looking to get another reel.
Chill
What's that watch you are wearing?
Apple Watch Series 4 (44mm) Space Gray. I added a link in the description.

Yea I wasn’t really ready for it I think. Thanks for the tip and watching!
Also check your drag before your first cast. If too loose you won’t get a good hook set. Nice video!
Les Wang Fishing Hello good video and you are very lucky to fish and I would like to know if you can give me the address I would like to go try your luck in that place
I had to X out of this vid just watching him walk to beach
could always just skip that part. not to watch a video cause it has a guy walking to the water is kinda silly.. it was actuially a prety good video.
is this smith point?
I usually don't disclose my location, but I can say no I wasn't at smiths point.
