You can just cut it without leaving any gaps to avoid making sharp unsafe edges. You can twist them a bit to open and then close them again. I remember when I was a kid I made a full chain of dozens of these soda tabs for my backpack and people would seem bewildered how I made it because the cuts weren't obvious unless you looked closely.
I wouldn't cut the edge myself, but try to bend it a little, or file it bluntly with a thin iron file, but that's just an idea of mine ;) But I think the bracelet is a very nice idea. vr gr Silvia

Maybe you can try and smooth out that hook with concrete? Maybe use the pavement or sidewalk outside and sand it? Will that work??????
