American McGee's Alice - The Death of the Cheshire Cat (Widescreen)

- When I was a lot younger and I played through this game for the first time, I remember being saddened and shocked by the Cheshire Cat dying. I hope he returns in Alice: Madness Returns.

Curiosity killed the cat, but satisfaction brought it back.
The one time that Alice actually shows that she cares about the Cat. Poor baby.

Honestly I think this scene tells a lot about her character- specifically what you just said, the *one time she showed* that she cared. So that would mean it's likely she can care a lot about someone without showing it- I wonder if that's tied to how she lost her family, like she's afraid to show or admit to attachment for fear of losing them too
What really gets to me is that in his lines, the cat literally announces he's going to die. He's completely aware that he will not survive the next minute, but still stays to warn Alice instead of hiding to live on.
Plus, you know for an absolute fact he's a coward, he even tells Alice, he's afraid of death, very afraid but he stomachs it just because he admires her strength as a person, a courageous man willingly giving away his life is admirable, a cowardice man willingly giving away his life is a miracle.
His scream made me jump cause his death was so sudden, poor Alice was crying
To those who don't know, yes he did die. But after Alice defeated the Queen, Wonderland went back to normal, everyone who died came back and Alice was sane again + released from Rutledge's Asylum. So basically it was a happy ending and there wasn't supposed to be a sequel. (Also, Alice never had a sister in the first game)
Actually yea she did american mcgee made his games which are based on lewis carrolls books which states she has a sister in both books so yea look it up
+Brett Janovich yea I know Alice does have an elder sister but in the first GAME, it doesn't show that she does. Watch the trailer, you'll see in her family portrait that she doesn't.

She's not in THAT particular portrait. If you look, that's also a completely different portrait to the one in the second game - it's not the same portrait and they just added the sister in, it's a different painting entirely.
She was several years older than Alice, maybe she had, you know responsibilities, and couldn't sit there having her portrait painted at that particular time. This wasn't like taking a photo. It took hours. Or maybe this was a portrait painted for a certain occasion that only affected Alice; again, portraits weren't as regular as photos either. Or maybe she was away somewhere at the time.
You can't prove that Alice didn't HAVE a sister in the first game, only that she's not SHOWN. There's a difference. The source material the game is based off very clearly states she has a sister, and the second game makes her a main character (albeit one who doesn't appear on-screen). She can't not have existed in the first game or the second game makes no sense. It's more likely they just didn't want to juggle too much in the first game.

The music fits Cheshire's monologue so dramatically well
Here his death is enough to drive Alice to tears.
In the next game she can't wait to be rid of him when he's around......continuity is not a strong point in Madness Returns I've noticed.

That's not correct, there's parts in the first game where she feels like that too. She cares about the cat, that's why she cared about his death, but she has a love-hate relationship with him essentially. Mostly because he was tied to the death of her parents for the most part in her memory.

Cheshire Cat is the stable anchor/mentor/guardian that during the course of the game the player is lulled into believing will always be there for Alice. That's why it's so upsetting when he's suddenly brutally killed right in front of you. The stakes become sky high and you now HAVE TO WIN against the Red Queen or all is lost.

guys, EVERYBODY returned immediately at the end of the first Alice, lol. you kill the red queen and undo all of the harm in wonderland, everyone is restored, im pretty sure you see it in the ending

You know I had never heard of this game before but a few years back this scene popped up onto my video feed. I was confused at first but then I watched the scene. After words, I quickly looked up where this scene was from.

I just saw thie scene and it was a shock honestly. And Alice crying over his death... The two didn't REALLY get along, Alice only seem to tolerate the cat's presence though out this game and was annoyed by some of his "Advice", but she clearly cared about him on some level.

Alice Madness Returns Cheshire does return and honestly i never played the first Alice game but i do like cheshire in the madness returns game.

izzAbizz Not at all, his head was lopped off. Even in the original stories, that... didn't bother Cheshire.
Did you know there's a "Kingdom Hearts" fanfic focused on Roxas, in which one of the worlds he visits is this one ? It's called "The Twilight Will".
I was particularly proud of the Queen and the Cat in the fanfic.

I saw a gameplay video from Comic-Con for the sequel, and it's first cutscene had Alice talking to the Cheshire Cat.

@zonilo1 Actually, no. He was murdered by the Red Queen, but (Just like everybody else... You know, the white rabbit, the white queen, the griffin, etc.) he resurrects. He sounds "so different" in Alice: Madness Returns, because there has been 10 years between American McGee's Alice and Madness Returns (time and new technologies probably are the reasons).
Why is everyone saying he died? The moment I saw he was beheaded, I knew he didn't, 'cause I read the books and he never had a problem with being headless... or in that case, just a head.

There was no physical item that did that to him. If you look after he dies, you'll see blue sparkly crap. This is the queen's magic. When you fight her after this scene, she uses this same magic to knock you up against the walls.

It's a PC game that was release in 2000. Might be able to find a copy on eBay. It runs on Windows 7.

Actually A:MR takes place right after the original game not 10 years later.
if you do a frame by frame, a tenticle pops out of the ground and knocks his head off.
Funny thing is, you can summon him during the Red Queen, I think.
@SmartSped1984 When Alice saved Wonderland everyone who died came back to life, it's in the ending.
There was never blood when he did that. I'm assuming he died, and was restored in the end, just like all the other Wonderland inhabitants that "died."
I'd say the exact same thing for the Metal Gear Solid series, all the way to four, and I usually cite MGS for it's superb voice acting.
I like the voice acting in both games actually, just not when people cry.

I wonder what other weapons the card gaurds have in their arsenal. and the Cheshire cat sounded like a chicken when he died.

When I first played this game, I yelled out "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! GOD DAMN IT WHAT THE FUCK?!" really loud when the spike shot out of the ground and killed Ches. >.<
Who else think that it's the best death in games history? It's even better than Aeris' in my opinion.
And it also is on the PS3 and Xbox 360 free if you buy Madness Returns. But I think you can buy it straight off the PS store. Not sure about Xbox.

Don't worry he get's resurrected in A:MR.
It didn't bother me that she cried now and then, she's fourteen. It bothered me that the voice acting was rather lacking when it came to this.
And the first game comes with the sequel.
