I saw George at Wembley arena in 1990,I think, and Elton joined him to sing this song and it was exactly like this video. Don’t think it was filmed the night I was there but Elton joining George on stage made an amazing night even better.

In a time when 90% of the music is just garbage, there actually was a time not so very ago when artists like George Michael and Elton John made some of the best, most heartfelt music in history. Auto-tune and lip-sync were unheard of and not needed, because real voices and instruments ruled the day...Many of today's artists might be remembered for a decade or two....George's and Elton's music will be listened to as long as there are people still around to hear it...RIP George!

Greg is the actual one and only that played the piano on some of the most famous songs EVER recorded when they were being recorded in the studios. He was a studio session player as well as a tour piano player for some of the biggest names of all time. Here is a link of Greg playing just the piano by himself and playing some of the songs of famous people that he himself played when the songs were being recorded to record LPs and CDs. I may be wrong but at around the 5:40 mark the individual you thought for a second was Lionel Ritchie is George Michael’s friend and former band mate from Wham, Andrew Ridgeley. Love this duet version of Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me.

It bothers me that all the reaction channels either review the George/Elton version of this song, or some live version from the ageing (harsh baritone) Elton. Surely the song is completely dependent on the kind of performance and production we have in the original 1974 version. Where Elton still had his young high-tenor voice, and it was produced in Spector/Lennon fashion. (What's that mean? Spoilers - in the original version the first verse actually sounds desolate and disconsolate, mainly because there's acres of space in the mix between EJ, the rhythm section and the guitar...and then we find the studio-sound bigger-but-still-airy when the horns and backing vocals come in. Now that's more like it!)

Elton the most successful solo artist in Billboard chart history. 7 consecutive US #1 albums from 1972-5! Still having big hits. So many hits, so many hidden treasures too. A brilliant composer and an incredible catalogue to explore. This is the best version of this song. Try also: Rocket Man, Tiny Dancer, Someone Saved My Life Tonight, Candle in the Wind (1973), Your Song, Daniel, Bennie and the Jets, Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, High Flying Bird, Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters, Sacrifice, Curtains, Indian Sunset, Original Sin, I'm Still Standing, Nikita, Sorry Seems to be the Hardest Word, The Last Song, Philadelphia Freedom, They Call It The Blues, Levon, Skyline Pigeon, Tonight, I Don't Wanna Go on with You Like That, Empty Garden, The One, I Want Love, Don't Go Breaking My Heart, Crocodile Rock, We All Fall in Love Sometimes, Merry Christmas Everyone, Honky Cat, Sad Songs....
