- Episode two of this series and we take a look at the persians. I played once again vs mbl however this was just a coincidence, it was not planned. I rushed the intro a little bit and was talking too quickly so I'm sorry about that. I let some people in twitch chat rush me, I'll be way more clear in future episodes and won't look at the chat to not distract myself. Hope you guys enjoy!

Build two houses and find your sheep ASAP, like instantly put one under your TC, really essential that you’re fast. 🐑
Then harvest the sheep with all your vills. When you see that the sheep has like 40-45% food left, MANUALLY drop off the +50 food you’re carrying and make a villager (asap). Repeat this until you don’t have to drop off food anymore. Never stop creating vills or your early lead will be gone.
7 instead of normal 6 on sheep might be a good idea so your food eco can catch up.

Oh and I forgot, in the beginning make loom since you have 0 food.
@@edwardblom2661 i would not recommend building any house at all, build the first house just before reaching 9 pop. Put the first 7 vils on sheep (instead of usual 6) and continue build order normally.

I think losing the eco bonus for the dark age really hurt the Persians. Not nearly as strong as they were before.

Malay. I know they're a pretty advanced civ, but I feel like that's why there should be a guide from a pro.

They have full archer research. Their elephants are much cheaper but dont have the last two armor upgrades. Militia line costs no gold after imperial upgrade but no Champion. And the unique unit needs a half population and is very cheap but has low hp and low attack but very fast.
And if there is a little bit water on your map build a harbor and fishing ships who can produce unlimited food. More information you can find here: ageofempires.fandom.com/wiki/Malay/Tree

britons dont have versatility so all you want to do with them is make archers and mix another unit like knights or habs or skirms

I think with the introduction of DE Elephants are now less of a meme than before.
Hear me out: before they had good eco and Kamandaran they had bad Trash and needed to win with Knights into Cavalier before gold runs out. now that they have good trash they arent forced into a position to win before gold runs out which makes them save a lot more Gold in the first place. And if you then use that Gold to go over the top of whatever the opponent is doing why not go all the way over the top?
The Eltie upgrade costs the same as Cavalier+Paladin upgrade and you get a unit that is A LOT mire powerful than the paladin.
I guess the problem with war elephants is that monk breaks their leg so hard is kinda risky to go for them. Unless you are a good portion ahead and you wanna finish the game, otherwise its a risky and hard to sustain economicly move
@@bernardomuniz4631 of course. You do this only if you are already in Hussar spam mode. Monks usually don't stick around in these.

Hera what about making videos only against civilizations tough matchups, for example when you do let's say indians against infantry civs like vikings or celts or even archer civs, I mean it's little bit more specific and advanced, I am pretty sure 99 percent knows what indians do in general

You clicked up to Feudal Age with 20 vils. When you reach 25 vils at 16:18 you put down a stable (and do the first Feudal action (apart from double-bit axe)). Wouldn't it be better in hindsight to click up to Feudal with 25 vils to have five more vils working while you're aging up?

@@Mathemarius The problem is they post these videos and then idiots make nonsense comments and stuff like this gets lost.
I think the time spent creating more villagers takes overall productivity away... or impacts your vulnerability. 25 seconds per villager is 125 for 5 villagers - that's just over 2 minutes. Most fit people can run 800m in that time. Then there's the age-up time to feudal. Can't recall, but it's a fair amount.
For me, another question is when to research Loom and whether to make militia while aging up.

How are Malians in the Definite Edition? I played them yesterday in the HD edition and I just think that they are so strong. I was doing a knight rush, dropping castles both defensively and offensively and at the same time I had a booming economy. I am not even particuarly good at the game so that civ feels overpowered in HD to me but maybe it is just my lack of experience.

I think Persians are now one of the coolest civs, with the gold-free crossbows and of course the elephants. However, as a noob (had the game since 99', started playing multiplayer recently), I'm thrown back by their strong Dark Age eco bonuses. Seems like it's the recipe for getting into bad early game habits.

No +5% faster work bonus for TC's in Dark age anymore. It is curious, how civ balance changes every month with DE. Probably persians are not that crazy now as they don't get that extra villager to the end of Dark age. Still very strong civilization for booming, I guess. Anyway, thanks for the overview!
Question: Do you think early dock is worth it? Persians can build a dock as a 3rd building and make a fishing ship

An idea : ban 4 maps in every episode, i get it that persians can play on any of those maps easily but lets try to find the best ones and optimize our chance to win.

Am gearing up to play online 1v1. Will buy a decent monitor and the latest edition of aoe2, then practice - that's where I'm at.
I've realised Persians would be the best to start with and even though they excel on water maps and nomad, I'm not ready for those - one dimension first. I was going to ban Black Forest, but I've decided to not waste a ban on that. I'll favourite Arabia at first.

When you select your maps, there's 1 favourite and how many bans? I'd ban Islands and anywhere with already-built walls, where you have to build a starting TC or water where possible... again, I'm not ready for that.

Before de they were definitely a gold reliant civ and that actually balanced out their strong eco. If they didnt get kamandaran the 5% in dark age would be fine. De balance changes are bullshit.
Also hand cannons literally won the game in the game you're referencing. crossbows aren't going to counter eagles

You should do one on Malay. They have so many strong options and i usually play them on long diplo games. It would be nice to get a guide by a pro on 1v1 maps.

8:52 completely agree. Persians is really a strong civ now but not broken/OP. Maybe Kamandaran moving into Imperial and then reducing its cost by 100 food would be good. Trashbows should not be available in Castle age in my opinion.
The 5000 hp town center civ that can produce 115 vils in the time it takes other civs to make 100 in castle age.

Persians have been my favorite civ since karaden* tech (trash x bows). It's also crazy how they get literally every mounted unit and upgrade.
yes mine too, they are a fun civ to play now too. You can spend your food and gold on great knights, camels, even elephants if you feel lucky - and with all that spare wood you can spam trashbows almost like a goth player can spam infantry. I bet they will be nerfed again soon. The only thing that lets them down now is slightly bad seige (and infantry but who cares about the milita line really)

A little disappointed, game didn't run long enough for any castle age play. I'd think most civs could pull off this exact game, didn't really seem to show off the Persian's strengths
I half expect the title to have a "lol" at the end of it and it be a 30min arena game of you converting every knight your opponent makes and mangos every wood costing archer.
Great video. Really like your civ analysis series as you play a match in a competitive scene after analysis. Also giving an instruction on why some maps are good/bad for the civ is really helpful.

I saw a question in the chat I really want to know - when ARE War Elephants viable?
I only play against the AI really, so I don't really know the PvP aspect of this game well, but even the stronger DE Ai's get roflstomped if you're able to mass Elephants.
