You should make a "so you want to play water map". I think a lot of people, specially beginners don't know what to do in water maps.

+1, weirdest civ there is imo. They don't seem to have any strong identity. Also how do you manage late game when you're missing both bracer and blast furnace?
@@epicnab their flexibility is their biggest strength. you can go cav early and midgame cuz you have farimba tech later on, their camels shred enemy cavalry, their light cav is amazing for raiding and trash wars, and their cavalier kicks ass. their swordsman line are legit mini huskarls and do amazing against archers. but if you are fighting infantry, you also have handcannons. they even have bombard cannon and siege onager. It can be confusing if a civ doesnt have an obvious strength but dont let that throw you off.

@@Rage_WinterchiIl Dont forget their gbeto is a great situational unit. Great for monk & siege sniping as well as a powerful anti-infantry alternative provided you have a meatshield to coencide with them.

Byzantines next please, I feel its a good civ for beginners like me cause. I usually win against my friends by just spamming cataphracts.
Mohit Krishnamurthy It’s hard to just spam Cataphracts if you actually wanna play good and improve. Catas are so damn expensive so if your opponent rushes you while you research them you’re fucked.
You can trash spam as Byzantines tho. Or if you're in Arena, go fast imp into arb+siege ram push.
@@edwardblom2661 Yeah looking at how some of the pros play, its probably not a good idea against pro players cause gathering resources is very tough but since me and my friends just started playing the game like 3 weeks ago, we aren't really good at attacking early so we just camp till we hit imperial and then just duke it out in 2v2 scenario lol. Thats kinda why I want hera to make a video on it so that I can play the civ properly

Hera, you've done a lot of top tier civs, how about making one for a bad civ, Turks. I feel like they have a pretty interesting late game but struggle in castle age and I'd love to see how you play them out.

why crossbow vs cavalry? is xbow good vs cavalry cuz chinese have no paladin upgrade? If I predicted cavalry logic would make me go for spears, but they get counter by chinese archers, so berserker would have been my choice but I see now they have low pierce armor so not very good either...thats why he goes fast imp to try to beat xbow/knight with arbalesters?

Vikings might be the best starter Civ if you can win by just power eco spikes into castle --> play defensive --> power spike again with Imperial and then head out (maybe with zerks and arbs).
An archer opening into castle age then playing defensive going into Imperial seems like a lot less to focus on while they just focus on getting their boom done with constant archer production and producing counters to incoming attacks as needed.
Speaking as a noob maybe this is what I'll do lol.

Please do Huns! It's my favorite civ but no one plays DE Huns so I don't know how to use it anymore. Are they still a viable civ? How good are Tarkans? When and how should they be used?

Italian on land maps please. They are usually only shown on water maps and I feel that they could be really strong in post imp with their unique units to counter cav and their unique melee to counter gunpowder and rams.

Can you do a video where you keep randomly generating maps and show which ones are worth walling?
I think that, after this video, I will (or try) to focus less on remembering civ bonuses and focus more on strategy and learning. Knowing perfectly that Berserkers regenerate hp did not help me to be better than 1.1-1.2k. Anyways, I'm not sure I understand: why Vikings are not good in mid game? This is where their free wheel comes in, and you can better sustain any late-feudal or early castle strategy. Sure, they have no bonuses on siege, cav or archers, and infantry mid game is not that important, but a better eco should help in, e.g., knight rush with all upgrades, or earlier ballistics and thumb ring on xbows, or not?
Really enjoying the series and +1 for Malians.
Would you consider doing a second game? I think people would enjoy the longer vid, and a second game would showcase more of the civ and more varied match ups.

I see all pro players not doing it but you often have idle villagers and it takes you time to do it manually.

I've been doing the cicero archers build which is 23 pop feudal and double range as you hit feudal but I feel it's a bit slow maybe? I play mostly TGs because I'm still bad there and want to head into 1v1 being at least decent. So should I just go for drush default? I heard men at arms was super meta when the game launched but I dont really know at this point.

Byzantines please? I can never figure out an easy way to transition from cheap spears & skirms in feudal to my Cataphracts in Castle/Imperial

Sick micro, hope I absorb the decision making of those micro moves. Can you please tell me what is a good minimum value out of a mangonel? Is one headshot enough? Is going scorpion vs archers fine? I find scorps giving more value for a less micro intensive player. Thnx for the amazing series Dr. Hera! How about Malay on land maps next? Similar TC time advantage with them and perhaps similar unit comp?
They cost 135g135w iirc, so if you headshot 135/135 worth of units from another player it should be worth it.
In fact i first played AoM, and i loved Norse civ there, with many infantry options. Sadly here huskarls are with the goths and throwing axe men with the franks. At least give my the Nidhogg :D

Is there a reason for Drush instead of M@A here ?
It may be more specific to the matchup. A Chinese player is going to have a really hard time getting their own militia out when a drush hits. There is a narrow window between 9 minutes and 11 minutes when Chinese are really vulnerable. This was not always the case- when Chinese started with 100 food, 7-8 minute tower rushes were common.

I think if you don't have micro skill as hera, you will probably lose all your crossbow to knight and siege right when you get to imp. At lease this happens to me

Teach me, Hera, teach me how to not suck at this game. It's getting bad, I'm even getting salty. The last time some guy beat my clever strat witrh a castle drop on my TC of all places and when I resigned he wrote "gg". I wrote "no"
i dont know how much i can help but i will try
if you are getting salty then remind yourself that this is just a game and try to overlook it
try to see also from the opponent’s eyes
try to find your mistakes
if you found what you did wrong then you can accept that this is your style or this is how you want to play if you just play for fun (but because of the salty thing i think its the wrong path) or try to think of ways how to not make the same mistake again
its normal to lose and make mistakes just remember when you are salty that this happenes to everyone and dont focus on why it got wrong (when you know it) but on how to fix it
the first thing you should to before getting better is fix your mindset
its normal to be salty sometimes but you have to find a way to overcome it most of the time when you start to get salty
i can just tell you how it works for me and my mindset
i realize that i did a mistake or got outsmarted and accept it and imagine the player on the other side
dont forget that if you are the one who outsmarts the other guy then the other one could be salty now
i know many mistakes i do and for this i am not getting so salty when i am doing them because its natural for me
with this in mind i can accept and and conclude (dont know if its the right word to use in english for what i am trying to say) what happened and try to focus again on the game and not on my salt
if you see your salt and think about your salt why you are a bit salty then the salt will just increase in the moment
you beat it with overcoming and/or forgetting about it (i guess)
@@HolyShitNew Wow yeah that is really good, I do try to be a good sport but when you try something sneaky and it fails miserably it's hard to stay cool :P
But I learned much from Hera, I usually try to push the advantage too much, whereas in this he was saying defend and wait sometimes if you will overtake their Eco anyway.

then if you change some things next time maybe it would work or again back to the first question
was it just unlucky that he scouted something where you wouldnt expect him scouting?
try it again and maybe the next opponent wont see it coming
find his scout and know where he has vision
if it fails again then look again if it was just a mistake or again unlucky
maybe the third time would work just work on this sneaky thing till it works
the feeling when it finally works after some fails (or many) is great
you know you have a working tactic and can outplay the enemy with it
train this thing till it works often (there is never an always so if it fails sometimes its not the worst just know why it failed so you know when you can use it and when better not)
if you mastered a thing you will happy and probably tilt less because of your knowing what happened
the most frustrating thing is when you lose or fail but dont know why
this is something to overcome

It sucks but you can use the chieftains tech to make them comparable vs cavalry. He says it somewhere in the beginning.
