    The Pakenham East HCMT (High Capacity Metro Train) depot is a purpose built facility for the Melbourne's newest metro trains. The depot includes maintenance facilities, wash sheds and a test track, which you will see in use in this video. On the day I filmed, set 21 was doing some testing omn the highway side of the facility.
    Keen eyed viewers will notice some not so new Comeng EMU's stabled here, which has only recently become an occurence. Some very keen eyed viewers may also spot the electric shunting car, yellow and blue in colour, in the shot pictured in the video thumbnail.
    Enjoy the video :)

    Hi Alex, this is a very impressive facility and looks to be well designed. The drone vision shows how huge this facility is and your drone skills are very good. How many of these trains are in revenue service and are there more sets still to be delivered? Thanks again Alex for this excellent footage.

      I think only three are in service, but they aren't regularly in service. There have been lot's of delays getting them into service, not exactly sure what has been the trouble with them.

    Is this facility PTV or operated by a private consortium undertaking the maintenance contract? NSW has moved away from "in house" for the majority of Sydney Trains and NSW TrainLink servicing etc. Impressive yard and looks to be well laid out. You should ring them and ask for a "shed tour" inside the facility, they would probably be proud to show it off. I done a great tour around three years back of the then new Sydney Trains Auburn/Clyde facility (privately operated) and was most impressed, well worth the 20 minute induction and security check prior. Thanks Alex.

      I believe it's owned by the state, but is operated, currently, by metro trains Melbourne, who are the private company running the suburban network currently. The thought never crossed my mind to ask about a tour, I would have guessed in this day and age it would generally be a no-no. I suppose no is the worst thing they can say to me so I should give it a go.

      @@AlexsTrainChannel - if not for all the railway lines in the place, it would just about pass as a prison facility with the razor wire-topped heavy mesh fencing surrounding the place. It doesn't make it seem as though they welcome visitors, but I'm sure we all know the real reasons they've had to do that, so perhaps genuine interested visitors could be okay. Maybe. :)

      The maintenance facility is operated by EDI Downer. Metro does the signalling from Dandenong, and Metro drivers take trains out and into the yard.

    Do you record the audio from the ground or is it recorded by the drone in the air? If it is the latter, is wind noise a problem (noting that in Victoria wind noise is always a problem)?

    • @AlexsTrainChannel
      @AlexsTrainChannel  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, my sound recordings are done from the ground. I think if the drone had a microphone built in all it would be able to record is the sound of the propellers, which is actually quite loud. And if it could pick up anything else it would then get some pretty band wind noise 😅

      @@AlexsTrainChannel Thank you, I thought that might be the case. I don't see drone footage with audio (apart from music) very often so I was curious about how you recorded the audio. Good work with the film!

      @AlexsTrainChannel  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Ken 👍 not the first comment like this I have read about the audio. I think the music is good soemtimes, but I prefer to work a bit harder and use actual audio if possible.
