  • Whilst on my way further north, I stopped over in Birmingham for a few hours and included a short visit to Moor Street station, the former Great Western terminus for suburban traffic from the south. I passed through the station in April 2013 but this is my first proper look around.
The station has a complex history and I would recommend reading about it on Wikipedia. I have tried to include the important events and dates in the subtitles.
Most services are operated by WMT using their fleet of 172/2 and 172/3 Turbostar DMUs that are allocated to Tysley. WMT also has the former Chiltern 172/1 and London Overground 172/0 two car units. These are easily identified as they don't have end gangways.
Chiltern operate regular services to London Marylebone.
Plans for the future include new chords at Bordesley which would increase the number of services and range of destinations served by this station.

Great video as always, shame you didn't see a class 68!

Nice video of the wmpte trains in Birmingham. Remember this reopening in the 80's when they reopened Snow Hill. Well done 🤓

Some of the 172s operated by WMR are ex-London Overground units which operated on the GOBLIN.

The close proximity of Moor Street, New Street and (soon-ish) Curzon Street to one another almost creates a giant rail hub in the centre of Birmingham.

The Curzon Street construction site is enormous. Really dominates the approach to New Street from Coventry. Very visible from the pavement opposite Moor Street. Hard to capture with the camera.

The Class 172/2/3 Turbostars that were built by Bombardier do look similar to the Class 375, Class 377, Class 379 and Class 387 Electrostars.
Plus the Class 379s are still being unused and in storage that no train operator can’t afford to inherit them. Due to high leasing costs.
