Hey bro, I found your channel through your Fast and Furious video and honestly you’ve become one of my favourite TH-camrs. No fancy editing, no overly long spiel about the themes and influences. Just a dude causally chatting about films. So damn refreshing, honestly takes me back to old school TH-cam. Also Law Abiding Citizen is a badass move, one of my favourites!
The "bad guy" hero died, so the "good guy" villain could win, which means the kinda villain, the hypocrite, did win. This was the origin story of a villain & he didn't even know it, because ignorance is bliss. To be fair, he tried to have more time for his family, and he achieved this at the end, but right there, that's how the ignorance took over.
This is one of my favorite movies ever! Gerard was great. I'm also a huge fan of Death Sentence with Kevin bacon. Doesn't get nearly enough love. History of Violence is great too.
the ending sucked for a multiple of reason but the main one was. that they had no way of figuring out cylde plans and somehow they got the upperhand on him the last min? hogwash also clyde too smart to not check under his bed before setting the bomb off... they only had nick winning because it was jamie foxx. clyde worked for the military black ops division. they should have had another guy like clyde trying to stop him. instead of a lawyer... like how light went against L in death note... it didnt make sense... this movie was great up until the ending.. same with I am legend
Not only that, but actually Nick wasn't the one that beat Clyde. His assistant, the only person in this movie that questioned him, was the catalyst. If it wasn't for her, Nick more than likely would have never gotten the information to track down Clyde's real work. Nick just happened to have a connection, that had a connection. He didn't even evolve as a character. In the end, it wasn't about justice, nor becoming a "hero." It was just all out of spite, because someone played him, and outsmarted him. It was all out of wounded, if not battered, and deep fried pride.
It’s crazy how other movies make a more Punisher film then the ones making an actual Punisher. In Marvel MAX Castle is in his mid 50’s to early 60’s. So it’s not too late for Butler.
Just re watched this a few weeks ago bc I remember when it came out I said "fantastic movie" also seeing clips made me rewatch. Glad it's getting some respect.
I've seen that movie multiple times, and I love it besides that stupid ending. Jamie and Gerard killed it here, awesome duo with this. My boy Frank was reignited in this movie, the ways he kills people from prison is genius.
I actually kind of fuck with the ending. Clyde still wins 100%, at a certain point he’s not looking for personal satisfaction in killing anymore really, he’s looking for personal satisfaction in turning Nick ( Jamie Fox) into exactly what he wants, which is someone that rightfully punishes murderers despite the red tape. He turns Jamie to his side of the fence, someone willing to murder a murderer. Clyde cracks a grin when he finds out Nick is killing him.
Isn't great when an actors ego is more important than the story bring told. Ruining and ending so they can look better. Seems like Jamie fox didn't learn the lesson from the film. Overlooking it and making decisions for his own personal career and valuing that over the story and movie as a whole. And I'm a Jamie fox fan but it always sucks when these elite narcissists make it about themselves
I think it’s safe to say everyone thought the ending of this film was super unfair. Jamie foxx did a great job because I hated him and I saw him as the antagonist. A lot of people confuse him with the protagonist.
Strange how this movie has suddenly picked up in social land now like it never existed. Saw it when it first came out and and loved it and was perplexed how it didnt make waves. My theory is the film is now striking a chord due to the world we live in, all the corrupt government, lawyers, Big pharma, NGOs etc etc. People would love to see this carnage brought on these people. Just a theory.
Does it make me a psychopath that I laughed maniacally when Clyde butchered that dude, and then laughed again when the dvd was sent to the lawyer's house?
It would be cool to get an "underrated" series from you, Zaffy. Occasionally highlighting some overlooked films inbetween going over more prominent films/series. I think any of the films by S Craig Zahler deserve more love. Great, dialogue and characters within interesting stories. Brawl In Cellblock 99 fits nicely in the reluctant hero and revenge arc. Regardless, another great breakdown/essay.
Always have loved this movie, it's smart and cool characters trying to outsmart each other by smart and cool ways❤ and when I really think about it, Clyde is like an all-time top 50 movie character for me. Of course not iconic like some other top 50(Darth vader, Tyler Durden, dark knight joker, etc) but he is equally badass, smart, charismatic, and fun to watch his simply talk as pretty much any of the other more iconic movie characters. Damn I wish this movie was more popular!!!
Bro this movie is one of the greatest ever made. We know who the villains are and it wasn't Gerard. At the end he smiled because Jamie Foxx's actions proved him to be right about them
Hell Yeah! Law Abiding Citizen is one of my top 5 Gerard Butler movies. I loved when I watched this back in 09, except for the ending. It legitimately pissed me off that they killed him, and even though I knew and liked Jaime Foxx, I just couldn't get on his side. I mean it just goes to show that most people that watch this movie will side with Gerry, because at the core people know all these "systems" and "laws" that we have to "abide" by are flawed and don't work. It's a lot like the guy who took out the health insurance CEO recently. Gerry as an old grizzled Punisher would totally kick ass, and as we can see he has it in him to go D A R K. Unfortunately I don't think we are going to see another Punisher for a long time. Gerry is one of my favorite actors still doing work today. He is just such a likable, and charismatic guy. I feel like he actually still tries in the movies he is in. Greenland is another amazing Gerry movie if you haven't seen that. The Fallen trilogy kicks ass. He kills it in Den of Thieves as a dirty cop (I still have problems with the movie). I also like his submarine movie Hunter Killer, and of course Gamer is one of my top 3 Gerry movies. Dad movies are very much his bread and butter. Once again, great video, Keep it up!
I think The Ending is Controversial for The Obvious HOLLYWOOD Reason. They wanted 'Good Guy Win, Bad Guy Dies'. Only problem was.. The Movie's Plot Alone shows you that The Moral Quandary of EVIL laid in The Hands of The State and ALL it's Servants. INCLUDING Nick; who Caused all of This.. because he behaved like a Servant of The State (Lawyer Mentality triumphing over The Necessity to/of Doing what is Right). The Reason why People identified with Clyde more, is because they understand him More. He isn't Deranged. He's AWAKE. Aware and Coldly Calculative. Which returns Me back to My Original point (in The Start). Hollywood may like to Pitch 'Rebellious and Revolutionary' Ideas to The Masses as much as They want; but They do it for Entertainment Purposes Only.. They are very much Aware of which Side They're on when The Rubber Meets The Road. ..On The Side of The State.
Great film, definitely agree the ending was a massive letdown though. The character Clyde feels like he was too smart to lose the way he did, I'd almost expect him to have implemented some kind of Jigsaw Killer trap in his cell, so he'd know not to go back. Hell wouldn't that have been a twist ending? Where he traps Jamie Foxx's character in the cell with a camera sending a live feed to him, with Clyde's plan unfolding? They could have had an intense escape scene and then the lawyer arriving only to find Clyde already carried out the plan, the 'live' feed had an hour's delay. Maybe sneak in a hint that he's going to kill Foxx's family, cause Clyde lost his and its all he has left to lose? At that point I think the audience could swap more to Jamie Foxx's side and he could end up gunning down Gerard Butler to save his family? That or Gerard Butler fakes his death and escapes, kinda like the Caller from Phone Booth. Which is another film you should talk about, if you haven't already Zaffy.
I have been following you for a while and it remains unbelievable how we are on the same wavelength. I also make analyzes, assumptions and alternative endings, etc. about films and series and i like what you do. You have a new follower. After watching law abiding citizen i could also not help but thinking about the Punisher origin story.Fantastic movie.
I went to screening for this movie and met Gerard Butler. It was awesome and weird because it was awesome meeting him and weird talking to someone with the same name...lol
Who is my opinion that I thought that Nick should’ve gotten a letter in the mail posted in six months after Clyde’s death, from Klein. Basically explaining that he’s proud of him for doing the right thing despite all of the legal red tape. But then we’re left wondering if Nick believes himself to be as evil as pride was capable of being.
i can FEEL this is going to be a Zaffy banger will update when i get hype Edit: its a banger sadge about ending switch tho he shouldve died with a smile
When I started the video, I also started to think about how to make the ending better. I guess we got to the same conclusion. Thanks and cheers from France! 🍻 *Edit* I'm busy right now, I'll elaborate later
It would be another thing if everyone actually reflected on what built up to the whole situation. Instead they just look at the main character and go "what a monster, better not change our ways or thoughts."
I remember this movie, I watched it so long ago, but I can’t even remember the ending, I even forgot Jamie Fox was in it😂 all I remember was Clive being a mastermind and loving it
Tbh I have to donate to this review and breakdown because Clyde was actually supposed to win but still die in the end, the writers botched the ending and it leaves a ending that people can’t agree with, they should have done a SE7EN style ending where Clyde maybe did something to his daughter to then make him a villain, but then again Clyde wouldn’t have done that but he did send a video tape of the murder…….
I appreciate your take on the ending, but I have a different idea that I think aligns better with the movie's themes. Instead of killing Clyde, what if Nick chooses not to plant the bomb under Clyde’s bed but hides it elsewhere? The story revolves around morality and how Nick, as a cog in the corrupt justice system, grapples with his own compromises. Rather than ending Clyde’s life, Nick could spare him and refuse to make any deals. In response, Clyde would face an ultimatum: stop the killing and join Nick in fighting for justice and freedom through the legal system. This resolution would focus on redemption and collaboration to challenge the flaws in the justice system, staying true to the movie’s core message. Essentially, they become partners in reforming the system rather than destroying it.
This movie would have been a lot better (and a lot less predictable) if Clyde had killed everyone and gotten away with it. The "paragon of virtue" prosecutor defeating the genius villain was a textbook, cookie-cutter Hollywood plot that we've seen a million times. If they didn't have the balls to kill off the protagonist, at least have Clyde execute everyone else and then disappear into the night, leaving Nick always looking over his shoulder wondering if/when his time will come. Even better, have Nick go rogue and start breaking moral and legal rules to get revenge for all his murdered friends and associates. Now the audience has a "Who's really the hero or villain of this story?" conundrum as Nick repeats the same process that Clyde went through where grief turns to rage, and now it's just two guys who have devolved into madness and are hunting each other. The possibilities from that point are endless, and we wouldn't get an ultimate outcome that I predicted 20 minutes into the movie.
This movie was on my favorites list to that POS ending even though you want to compare it to The punisher this movie has more death wish vibes than anything😮
It should've ended more like the 4th Season of Dexter. Maybe Jamie Fox's daughter's school explodes as he races in a little late for her recital. And maybe Jamie isn't really a good actor.. it's time. The word miscast is used to describe too many of his roles. His best role since Ray is Django, and he didn't exactly have to Tony Montana that movie. 🤷
Meh. I was fine with the ending. I just see the characters as shades of grey, not good or bad. Clyde was way in over his head. And a point like that he's trying to make ends up being pointless because people would just move on and forget anyway. The country is bigger than a few judges here and there and they're cogs in a machine easily replacable.
The acting wasn’t very good in this movie though, kinda stiff, but I still like this movie, Gerard butler would be cool as the punisher, but I don’t think he can do an American accent
My head cannon for this film. Clyde doesn't actually die at the end, he faked it using his genius. The film led us to believe he died using time cuts. He's sitting in amongst the crowd at the play watching Jamie fox's character become a proper father, so decides to let him live, as he feels the lesson he taught has been learned. He then changed his identity and became a secret service agent 😁
The only time I wanted the bad guy to win 😭
Who said he was the bad guy?
i want the bad
guy to win in almost every movie
Um, he wasnt the bad guy.
@kylereno5383 I know he was seen as "the bad guy"
@ Alright “Gerald”
Im a simple man, when Zaffy uploads I click
I do the Zoltan sign from Dude where is my car
And when Click Me happy

history of violence is soo fucking good.
Solid take fr. Never would’ve thought he could be punisher. Awesome idea fr.
Found your channel a week ago so authentic no flashy stuff straight to the point so awesome

I find most stories don't know how to end. It's nice when it is actually pulled off.

It’s crazy how other movies make a more Punisher film then the ones making an actual Punisher.
In Marvel MAX Castle is in his mid 50’s to early 60’s. So it’s not too late for Butler.
But unfortunately a Scottish punisher wouldn’t really work
The ending Pisses everyone off..😡
If by divisive you mean, Jamie Foxx on one side and the world on the other, I agree completely.
Love it when Zaffy gets all hyped in the videos haha true passion my guy ✊🏾
Jaime and Gerard were actually hired to play each others characters, they had already stared group reading scenes when they decided to switch roles.

He turns Jamie to his side of the fence, someone willing to murder a murderer. Clyde cracks a grin when he finds out Nick is killing him.
Totally agree bro. That ending sucked. It was fantastic up until then. Jamie Foxx just pulled a rabbit out of his ass to get the win.
Isn't great when an actors ego is more important than the story bring told. Ruining and ending so they can look better. Seems like Jamie fox didn't learn the lesson from the film. This is definitely a movie I loved but never rewatched because of the ending
Love your content bro 👌 🙌
I paused this video to rewatch the movie 👌
CLYDE SHOULD HAVE LIVED
Strange how this movie has suddenly picked up in social land now like it never existed. Saw it when it first came out and and loved it and was perplexed how it didnt make waves.
My theory is the film is now striking a chord due to the world we live in, all the corrupt government, lawyers, Big pharma, NGOs etc etc. People would love to see this carnage brought on these people.
Just a theory.
its esp relevant now after that recent CEO assassination thats been making headlines
if i ask you, do you still believe in the law?
Does it make me a psychopath that I laughed maniacally when Clyde butchered that dude, and then laughed again when the dvd was sent to the lawyer's house?

@Cinemavigilante all classics. Looking forward to whatever he puts out next.
Lethal injections dont stop pain. It stops you from reacting to it.
Law Abiding Citizen is Punisher meets Dexter
Good timing, I was just suggesting this movie to some friends

After watching law abiding citizen i could also not help but thinking about the Punisher origin story.Fantastic movie.
Had to make the ending "the legal system actually wins" cause Clide and his mission was too relateable and made too much sense.
I went to screening for this movie and met Gerard Butler. It was awesome and weird because it was awesome meeting him and weird talking to someone with the same name...lol
6:43 I really laughed at that part in the movie

Law abiding citizen. One ace film. A masterpiece!
I also feel that Gerard Butler would be the perfect Sam Fisher after seeing the Fallen series.
Law Abiding Citizen is genuinely one of my favourite movies. Nice to see it getting some love.
THE GOAT UPLOADED
i can FEEL this is going to be a Zaffy banger will update when i get hype Edit: its a banger sadge about ending switch tho he shouldve died with a smile
When I started the video, I also started to think about how to make the ending better. I guess we got to the same conclusion.
Thanks and cheers from France! 🍻
*Edit* I'm busy right now, I'll elaborate later
Your take on this is fkin awesome. That ending would have been perfect!!!
Ultimate entj movie.. revenge is justice... If you understand you understand
It would be another thing if everyone actually reflected on what built up to the whole situation. Instead they just look at the main character and go "what a monster, better not change our ways or thoughts."
Another good unofficial punisher film imo is "You were never really here"
great movie,i think thats lowkey a sick joker origin story too,i liked it more then jaoquins joker films
Vigilantism, similarly to the Luigi M. guy.
Yeah highly underrated movie!!
Another move I feel that is underrated is “From Paris with Love”. Highly recommend.
one of my fave john travolta characters
@ facts
Yeah, I loved this movie except for the end. Though, I understood it, I didn't have to be happy about it.
Second belt is back
CLASSIC MOVIE
I remember this movie, I watched it so long ago, but I can’t even remember the ending, I even forgot Jamie Fox was in it😂 all I remember was Clive being a mastermind and loving it

I'd love to see him play an older Punisher maybe Cosmic Ghostrider
My boy just created his own punisher movie by combining 2 movies in 1 😂 genius
I appreciate your take on the ending, but I have a different idea that I think aligns better with the movie's themes. Instead of killing Clyde, what if Nick chooses not to plant the bomb under Clyde’s bed but hides it elsewhere? I one hundred percent agree with you.
I see no reason it's nor a punisher film. Well done.
Zaffy your the best l totally agree with you on all your content keep up the good work 👍👍
I thought Nick should've taken out Clyde just for Clyde to be taken in for murder. Because. You know. The system.
Great review, I rewatched, it was good movie.
Wild film I saw it in theaters
Gamer is f ing cool
You’re correct
Fox did the same thing with the ending in the Tom cruise movie he was in. His character had to win…
He might not be too old for Frankencastle
It’s one of my favourites and I too hate the ending.
It is a good film. Is he Frank Castle? I like your take
So, I guess we know the fate of the next CEO.
Jamie fox ruined this film because he wanted his character to 'win'
Thought of this movie with the latest healthcare situation
I like your channel but I just have one question. Why Splice?
This movie was on my favorites list to that POS ending even though you want to compare it to The punisher this movie has more death wish vibes than anything😮
biggest revenge movie? i saw the devil, it goes over bored, but it is peak revenge
i heard they changed the ending - he was supposed to get off on everything like the other guy did. worst ending ever
Jamie Foxx is the “good guy” I want to see lose in this film just like against Vincent in Collateral.
Good cast choice for punisher. But in law abiding citizen he is a villain not an anti-hero.
Why, i do skip the end
Great movie
A good film which was letdown by the ending.
Awesome movie
Is he The Crow?
It's like Gotham.
The acting wasn’t very good in this movie though, kinda stiff, but I still like this movie, Gerard butler would be cool as the punisher, but I don’t think he can do an American accent
Lord of War is a great movie that the bad guy wins.......evil prevails.
No your not wrong
I think this ending ruined the whole movie for me.
WHY??????? Was I not subscribed?
My head cannon for this film. Clyde doesn't actually die at the end, he faked it using his genius. The film led us to believe he died using time cuts. He's sitting in amongst the crowd at the play watching Jamie fox's character become a proper father, so decides to let him live, as he feels the lesson he taught has been learned. He then changed his identity and became a secret service agent 😁
