I grew up eating Fruit Loops and Frosted Flakes for breakfast. I ate candy and Coke almost daily, for school lunch my mom would pack a peanut butter/marshmallow/jelly sandwich, a Hostess cup cake and a small bag of Fritos. You get the idea. Having done the no-sugar diet as an adult with great success (50+ pounds) I assure that you absolutely will lose the desire for sugar products and will developed a distaste for them. I have had moist chocolate cake put in front of me with my response being "why in the world would anybody eat that?" You will feel amazing, clothes will fit and will feel like you "got your body back".

Breaking the sugar addiction in 30 days is not exactly the truth. I may not eat sugar anymore (carnivore diet) but that doesn't mean I still don't crave it 24/7.
Yes, without sugar I am losing weight, feel healthier, more alert, more awake, etc etc. But don't gloss over the addiction part. There are good days & bad days.
If you're trying to get off sugar and fall off the wagon, get right back on the wagon. Don't give up. But it won't be a cakewalk for some people. Be strong, because you're doing this for all your tomorrows.

There is a difference between sugar cravings and sugar addiction. Of course we will crave sugar. But someone being addicted it feels like you have no power at all over eating it. Something has taken over you and allowing you to over eat sugar knowing darn well you honestly don’t even want it. But you feel forced to eat. This video is to break the addiction. The feeling of not being in control. When you crave sugar you are at least able to choose without feeling forced. Addiction is the act of eating aside from your own will

Thank you so much for consistently sharing great information! I never EVER thought that I could truly give up sugar and not be miserable. But it’s happened. I’ve lost 54 pounds over the last year sporadically doing intermittent fasting - but the majority of it (35 lbs) has happened since Sept when I got serious about giving up sugar. It doesn’t bother me one bit to sit next to someone eating my former favorite sweets.
The BEST part is no pain. I was nearly to the point of walking away from photographing weddings because by the end of an eight hour wedding day, my joint and muscle pain was awful. Did I mention it’s GONE? The struggle is worth it.
For me, mindset has been the key. Instead of feeling sorry for myself that I “can’t” have sugar, I’m so thankful that I now have the knowledge that’s changing my health and giving me new life. The 52 year old Pat runs literal circles around the 35 year old former Pat. Thank you for all you share Dr. Becky!

I gave up sugar (and all sweeteners) for a month and never went back because I felt so much better. That was almost 8 years ago. I started on a Friday and I won't lie, that first weekend was rough, but by Monday afternoon I felt like laughing at nothing and dancing down the aisles while grocery shopping because I felt so good. I had one treat at a family get-together after my 30 days and felt so poorly afterwards that I decided I was sticking with my no sweets diet for life. I bring my own healthy snacks for holidays and birthdays, etc and it doesn't bother me at all to skip the cakes and cookies because I know now what they were doing to me. I used to be a sweets addict with the matching mood swings. Get off the sugar roller coaster, you will not regret it!

@@cindyaffinati6839 I will bring Greek yogurt with vanilla extract mixed in or chia seed "pudding" that I make myself or if I am feeling really extravagant, I whip a cup of whipping cream with vanilla and in a separate bowl whip up an eight ounce brick of cream cheese and then blend them together and make 4 little bowls of "ice cream". Since I don't use artificial sweeteners either, I can really taste the natural sweetness of foods so I don't miss the added sugars. For appetizers, I hang out by the veggie tray. 😉

I have been able to quit sugar for 13 days then I failed. Its like an alcoholic. It takes only 1 drink for them and it takes only 1 cookie for me. My food/sugar addiction led me to develop type 2 diabetes, i have been insulin dependent for more than ten years but thanks to help from God i have radically changed my eating habits and lost over a 110 lbs and am on track to lose another 50-75 lbs. Sugar has been one of my greatest weaknesses over the years and i am going to do sugar free for thirty days and try my best to just live completely sugar free. I’ve got a very sweet tooth and know, from a lifetime of experience, that sugar is the culprit for my yo-yo weight gain. so let’s see how we go! I usually find that cutting out bread and cereals works well, and eating lots of soup will keep me full for longer and it’s a strategy I’ve used in the past.
I’m a vegetarian and love eating plant based food, but I’ve been in the habit of snacking on stuff I know isn’t good for me. Discipline is needed and I’ll do my best to follow Dr. Becky’s advice to rid myself of sugar cravings. Hopefully it will also help me shed the ten pounds I’ve put on in the last few months too!
I started my ‘sugar-free’ journey on Sunday 12 February 2023, and will report back in 30 days. The calendar has been marked! I’m sure anyone reading this will wish me luck! 👍

I do intermittent fasting, 18:6 and low-carb.I cut sugar from my diet back in October with absolutely no issues. I have colitis and since changing my eating habits, my IGAs have been virtually back to normal since I was diagnosed 30 years ago. I have also suffered with migraines several times a month from the age of 18, and since changing my eating habits I have not had a single migraine. It just goes to show that you really are what you eat! I am now the grand old age of 52 and I’m peri-menopausal. However, I have better mental clarity and energy than I did 20 years ago! An added bonus is that I am now 36 lb down since the 1st of October 2022. Thank you for your inspiration and guidance Dr Becky. I love your content and your practical advice has really helped me.

It was the first time I had seen the scale move down in a very long time. I was so excited that I continued the Low-Carb life style changing from burning carbs to burning fat. I’m now down 20 lbs from when I started and feeling GREAT! Your recipes were delicious and it inspired my husband to also cut his sugar intake. Your clarity in teaching how to eat (what to include and what to avoid) helped me to eat a salad for lunch every day and enjoy it so much I crave it and best of all it keeps me full all afternoon! O,1,2,3 is the way to be!!! Thank you so very much ❤️

I haven't given up sugar 100% but cutting back as Dr Becky says over a month (for me Sept 2021) I used Stevia/Splenda every other cup of coffee etc. helped me have my first time that I didn't buy Xmas/Valentine candy the day after even though it was half off. : ) So freeing. I lost tons of bloat, stomach flattened, bathroom habits changed for the better(fake sugar upset it I think) After a few months patients dropping off donuts didn't make me want them. My left knee stopped bothering me. The less weight and sugar helped me feel so much better. I saved my sugar for holiday loves, pumpkin pie or a cookie. I know some can't do a little but it was very freeing for me to be in control again and not have it have control over me.

I finished my 40 days no sugar (or added sugar in first 5 ingredients) yesterday. I always use an app to track my food and nutrition numbers. Today I had a planned sweet that I had purchased about 2 months ago(Organic peanut butter cup). Split one two pack with my husband. Well. That was an eye opener. Very underwhelming. I’d rather have fruit! So back to no sugar. Another 30 days starts tomorrow. Then I will evaluate whether I even want to choose an item off my plan. If my answer is nah I’m good….back in for 30 more I go. I think having a set number of no sugar days and then a choice or break day, will work nicely for me. The nutrition cavalry isn’t coming….I am my own cavalry. I am very glad you posted the idea in a previous video.

I started my sugar free diet on Thursday 2nd Feb. Its now one week in. It was tough the first several days I had terrible headaches. I still have fresh blueberries on my daily bowl of oatmeal and half an apple sliced up in the oatmeal too. I guess they do add a little sweetness but I take them more for antioxidants and the fibre as I am wanting to lower my cholesterol too. But of course they are natural sugars, not processed. I am feeling slightly better just this last week. I seem to have better clarity and a more stable mental awareness. I have to say I am peeing a lot more, like every hour and not sure why that is but I read that this can happen when you give up sugar, I guess more toxins being eliminated which is good. I am a very determined person so will def keep going with no sugar. I finally realize how dangerous sugar is to the human body and as my daughter is getting married soon I want to be around to one day enjoy grandchildren. No pleasure from a sweet treat can match the pleasure of knowing I am being the healthiest I can be.

I took sugar out of my diet 11 months ago. I also started Keto. However. If I see a photo of a cake or cookies etc I instantly crave it. I have frozen green grapes if I really need something sweet. That desire has never gone away. I don’t eat fruit or drink fruit juice. I do keep crystal light handy. My sugar addiction isn’t what it use to be & that’s great. What’s changed, I lost 70lbs on Keto, that is something no other diet could help me w. I automatically do intermittent fasting. I seem to eat 2 meals most days. I also noticed that I use much smaller plates when eating. Like any addiction I’m wondering if that bump in dopamine is missing in the brain because of the lack of sugar because my brain lights up just from seeing a photo of pastries? I see Keto recipes of desserts & I know I can’t make them. I’ve stopped sugar a few times in my life, so I’m looking at this as one day at a time scenario for me now

Day 5 sugar free now. The feelings of hardcore punishment have melted away. I had a PROFOUND realization on Day 4 that sugar free takes away the confusion of hunger, so my body is now an accurate measuring tool for when I want to eat. I am SOLD, and I look forward to more new changes.

I’ve stopped eating “regular “ sugar but have been trying an array of alternative sugar like stevia, allulose, monkfruit and erythritol but I’ve been thinking even though there’s claims for them not to raise your sugar, it still keeps me craving sweets. So I’m going to attempt to cut those out as well.

I have cut alcohol from my life completely, haven't had any since Oct. 2022. At first, maybe I felt like I was missing out a bit, but I really haven't had any issues at all with it. Now sugar. sugar sugar sugar. I understand completely what cutting out sugar can do - I cut sugar and carbs for 2 weeks and was shocked at the results. I had what I thought was tendonitis in both of my arms from years of typing/computer mouse usage but amazingly, the pain disappeared! I could not make a fist at all with my right hand, my fingers wouldn't bend all the way and now I can actually make a fist! I KNOW that, I experienced self-healing, I have actual proof what inflammation from sugar can do and yet...I struggle daily with sugar cravings. If I even have a tablespoon of chocolate chips I am DONE. It's 1000% harder to deal with than alcohol. I've started watching these videos Dr. Becky has made, along with others, daily. It's like my sugar AA daily meetings! I know sugar=pain, not to mention how ill I feel after consuming it but I can't seem to stop. I have to keep it out of my house but living with family it can be hard. It's crazy that for me, sugar is soooooo hard to get over!

I know it's horrible for my immune system, my weight, my self-confidence, my health overall. It just seems unattainable. To hear you've given it up FOR GOOD?!?! 😳😳🤯🤯🤯

Chocolate is a source of magnesium & so are nuts, that's why women crave chocolate-covered nuts at certain times of the month. If you add a good magnesium supplement, your chocolate cravings may decrease.

Thanks for the video. As a person who tried a vegan diet for a while l can say that the scariest thing about quitting sugar is that these things are actually lifestyle changes. We need to realize that major dietary changes may mean that we can no longer eat at most restaurants, eat most food served at events or parties, cafeterias, etc. This makes it especially hard for children who are almost coerced to eat these foods when they're away from you. So the real question becomes, "Are you willing to change your lifestyle?"

This afternoon I got rid of every food item that had sugar within its first three ingredients. Thankfully, I've already been more mindful of what I bring into my house, so this was easy! I also don't keep snacks in my house as a general rule, so I didn't waste a whole lot of money with this, either. Even though I'm currently snacking on some brown sugar roasted walnuts (homemade), I feel a whole lot better about this snack than something that's been processed. Now that all the rest of it is out of my house, I just have to exercise all my willpower when I'm OUT of the house :)

Would be very interested to see a video on the relationship between switching to a keto diet (which technically I find very easy) but the side effect of continually ramping adrenaline the more I do it. Irrespective of electrolyte intake. I keep thinking it should pass, but it's usually unbearable by weeks 3-4.
