      Your explanation is here (mine anyway). This could be set in an alternate universe, here WWII happened (1940’s look) and the Earth had been running out of supplies, w/ an alternate universe in mind you can make the assumption that something went wrong and everyone’s dead or it just looks different, so if you take all that in account it leaves the three test subjects and the researcher. Maybe they had sent a ship into space with these people as children and that’s why he knows to whistle the tune to open the door just forgot why. It also explains the rainforest vibe inside of it, maybe they were prepping for deep space travel having habitats with less gravity or just trying to ease generations into zero gravity because if you look at MC he’s skinny as hell! So who knows but if you have a better one come at me.

    • @kevincrady2831
      @kevincrady2831 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The Moon twist ruined it for me. The Moon has 1/6th of the Earth's gravity. Astronauts in 100+ pound spacesuits were bounding across the surface, so a guy in a loincloth would be taking a flying leap every time he took a step. Plus, why spend the enormous amount of money and resources it would take to build a domed-over rainforest on the Moon just to do fiendish experiments on tribespeople? It would have made more sense as a post-apocalyptic story with the Vault survivor(s) doing their thing (whatever that was) to the people outside.

    • @SethEden
      @SethEden 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@kevincrady2831 Excellent points! :-D One thing about your question is one of the things that makes the story so interesting. "Why spend the enormous amount of money and resource it would take to build a domed-over rainforest on the Moon just to do experiments on tribespeople?"....That question right there makes me want to know more about what else is going on?!? What else does the viewer not know? There must be much more to the story! All questions that mark a decent sci-fi story. I call them "What Next" or "What If" questions that usually leave you hanging at the end. Example "Screamers" 1995 film with the robot disguised as a teddy-bear at the very end, hitching a ride back to Earth.

    • @kathyt55

      I have, with arc lights. Nice and dramatic - though why here, in this futuristic setting? It sounds cool, plus I suppose one could argue it's easier to make and replace than a filament light, especially in some remote outpost with easy access to vacuum but limited resources otherwise?

    Beginning: You immediately know this is not a real caveman because of the disastrous quality of the tools. Even I could make better stone-age ones.
    10:40 : A real caveman would not in one hundred years deduce that this is an door.
    12:30 : Aaaand a real caveman would have his senses trained enough not to be himself be surprised like that from behind :) . Don't underestimate the caveman, guys. He was a specialist.

    The few criticisms have already been listed by others here.
    You didn't need to allude so heavily to Close Encounters and Space Oddesy. This short story stood strong on its own as a self-contained piece and would have been even stronger as something wholly original. Remember, that's what made those movies so memorable.
    Would have liked some connection between our hero and the last shot, especially since you've established throughout that we experience what he experiences (like the POV on the operating table).

    Visually nice. 10 mins for the main character to establish a scene? And the way he was fearless and smart, it doesn't relate to a caveman. Carrying a fire torch in the hand and when all the bulbs are flashing, he is not at all amused or stopping from going ahead? And too much of coincidence, like the touchpad on the door, then going down the stairwell.. it's as if he was not a caveman but someone else.

    • @subhamburnwal9127
      @subhamburnwal9127 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think that was the point. "He is someone else. Forget whatever you were thinking he is, because its not who he is."
      Maybe they were trying to experiment on modern humans but their memory-erasing stuff wore off faster than what its label said. Say the human still remembers a lot of what he could be or could use.
      Or maybe those two were just left to survive on their own in that little world, when they were small.

    This is my take (SPOILER ahead):
    Just because we see the moon base at the end it doesn't mean the action is taking place there. We also see the Earth in the background.
    I believe this is some type of time travel story where humans, probably from 50's or 60's by the look of those TV's and the rest of the tech, manage to build a base on the Moon and get back in time to explore the Earth when primitive people were still around.
    The whole action does happen on Earth but the last shot is to show us where the actual operation center is, i.e. on the Moon.
    Just my two cents. Awesome movie. Left me wanting for more.

    So well done -- top notch acting, directing and especially photography. I've always been drawn to films with limited or no dialogue -- there's something about that sparsity that, somewhat ironically, adds layers of depth to a film. It draws the viewer to pay attention to the action and in the process draws them in to the film's surroundings.
    Every crack of a twig, every burst of light, every raised eyebrow and every frame of film has the potential to move the plot forward, which in turn, quickens the pace -- and the tension. When done well, it's a beautiful thing.
    Films like "The Naked Island," "Le Quattro Volte," and significant parts of "The Piano," "Cast Away," "Unforgiven," and "Up" do this to supreme effect. It's a large part of why most of those films, if not all of them, are masterpieces in their own way.
    As an occasional actor (very occasional -- a few films and lots of theater, but I'm a journalist by trade) that's the kind of film I've always wanted to be a part of. It would be incredibly challenging, but so rewarding if it came together in the end.
    Here's hoping you get the funding to expand it to feature length, if you haven't already. I'll be the first one in line.

    The tech would suggest mid-80's to mid 90's, and the lunar location would make an ideal spot for cloning outside of pesky earth jurisdiction. As for the tracker implant, it was probably also a control/pain/death enforcement device, as noted by the huge drill at the end, which could do some serious damage. The concept seems to come from the movie "Ice Man," where an artificial environment was made for the resuscitated cave man.
    This was probably intended as a warning against messing with human cloning, and how the scientists lose their sense of humanity bit by bit (if they ever had any to begin with), especially their abilty to empathise with their subjects. Imagine being brought to life in a strange environment without so much as a tutor to guide you. Two thumbs up for this film, brilliantly done!

    That's one smart caveman! Not only did he equate the surgical equipment with "cutting" but he also deduced that they cut into his leg (due to an OUTLINE on the woman's leg!), inserted a homing device and then sewed him back up; and then was able to pry into his own leg without passing out from that monumental loss of blood, and then was able to hit the experimenter's jugular with one shot (did he know that was a killing stroke?). There's too much this guy knows. Maybe he was one of the people who came to the moon - or a child of one of them, given up to experiments - which is why he has a grasp of modern human ways.
