“This is my snaking knife, they just show up at my door I use it to kill them” has to be the most Australian use of a knife I’ve heard of.

For me my favorite large fixed blade is my kabar kukri machete, for where i am (hardwoods like black oak, ash etc) its the best camp firewood processor, another one is the ontario sp-5, heavy enough with a good span for batoning, but light enough for springy green vegetation, another one i use for yardwork is the cold steel smatchet, good reach and light and thin for green stuff and medium thumb sized greenwood.

I'd imagine the snakes mostly show up early on, and in some sort of hot-spot. They do that to warm their blood up after the night before. Even where I live in cold northwest England I see grass snakes in the summer warming themselves up on a local lump of rock next to a little stream, where they obviously hunt. It might be an idea to place some sort of rock substitute/sun trap a hundred yards or so from your house.

Don't listen to the shorts haters- the pins look great.
I think that big knives are underrated by many who see the size and think "I would never be able to use that for anything" and so they buy their 70th folder so that they can put in a drawer to never actually use. They're cool things to have and to enjoy on an aesthetic and experiential level and that should be enough. Big knives also offer unmatched and unique opportunities to get weird and be very nerdy and help many of us blossom into sword owners (final form).

Best snake killer is long and flexible but not floppy. A "stick" made of wire (like a giant long reinforced paperclip) works well and folds up to fit under a 4WD seat. Round the house a bamboo pole works and looks very ordinary leaning up against the back of a door.
Spades, axes, aren't fast and accurate enough if they try something.

For the price the 12" tramontina machete is one of the best large "knife" purchases I've made. No need for sharpening stones if you're simply hacking brush, just use a fine/medium file to sharpen. Though if you want to put a fine edge on it you can quite easily.

I just want one kitchen knife, probably a santoku, that has a high quality steel and a reliable heat treatment. But I don’t want to spend more than $100 on it. Should I just order a knife blank and make my own, like Alex at Outdoors55? I think I’ve seen him cut the shape with a grinder and do the heat treatment in his kitchen oven. 🤓

You never kept the Skrama 240. That is my "go to" big blade now, and I have had a few big chopper style knives over the years.
BK9 is a beater rather than a cutter. And the last that hatchet billhook big power bruiser. They have their place but lack finesse; truck tools that rarely find much work because either a small knife or an axe would be better.
I note no long thin machete. Some places they are the best. If they are ring dinging then the jobs too much, and get something stiffer like a skrama or if proper hard wood an axe or saw.
