Even if good persons' worst fears are not actualized through this right-wing "supreme" court, the fact that they took this case provided Trump with the delay that makes it 95% unlikely that Judge Chutkin can get the green light to bring Trump to trial. Cannon, in Florida is doing the same thing. It's like a court version of choreography determined to keep the curtain (of real juries finding real verdicts) from rising.

But there ARE legitimate questions for the court to answer about the limits of prosecutorial power here. Nor are:
1. Demanding 1000+ votes to swing an election
2. Inciting violent insurrection at the U.S. Capitol
3. Purposely stealing boxes of top-secret state documents
4. Violating the emoluments clause by profiting from a hotel that caters to diplomats who have business at the White House
5. Lying 35,000 times (and setting such an awful example to America's youth)
6. Pretending to be the Second Coming while being an agent of vengeance, disruption, and chaos
Couldn't they just make up some bogus reason for it? Claim the political opponent was an agent of some foreign government? If everyone who worked for that president was willing to lie about the justification, who would be able to challenge them?

... Future considerations about an " Absolutely Immune " President's actions ARE important, but so is the current situation - that is a matter that MUST be settled right now, one way or the other.

I understand what Mr. Conway is saying, but SCOTUS does not have to decide the scope of immunity in some future case. All it needs to decide whether tRump is immune from prosecution for the matters charged in this indictment.

Prosecutors with the Manhattan district attorney’s office contend that Trump has repeatedly violated the gag order that bars him from attacking witnesses, prosecutors, court staff and the judge’s family.
Judge Juan Merchan, who is overseeing Trump’s criminal trial, held a hearing Tuesday to discuss the former president’s posts online and determine if consequences are in order.
Trump attorney Todd Blanche argued the former president was responding to political attacks and said there was no willful violation of the gag order.
Prosecutors are asking for Merchan to fine Trump $1,000 for each of his 10 posts allegedly violating the gag order. Conway said the former president and the presumptive GOP presidential nominee should be fined for his attacks.
This is exactly why the court HAD to take the case. The absolute immunity augment is a non starter. But the underlying questions that it raises about official acts is something that needs to be addressed.
