- This is a rare recording of Ustad Amir Khansahib during his 'riyaz' session - possibly in the morning - where he is practicing prolonged 'swar's or notes in raga Bhairav. The recording is obviously an ameteur one and the noise from the road outside can be heard in the background. Despite the noise, it is still worth listening for learners and experts alike - to see the great Ustad's extraordinary vocal and breathing technique and how he hits each note with precision and perfection. In the later part he explains how he uses 'Aa' or 'Laa' of the word Allah or 'Om' during practice - instead of dhrupad-like 'nom' or 'naa' etc - in order to avoid any nasality creep into his voice-production. I got this recording from a secondary source and don't know who recorded it or whether he/she wanted it to be shared. But I must express my greatest thanks and gratitude to him or her for preserving this for posterity. The original recording is much longer, and I have shared only the part where it is most clearly audible.

I'm currently doing Riyaz in Bhairav and I have been working on sur accuracy a lot with the breathing techniques that are mentioned in the description. Thank you for sharing this recording of Ustadji's riyaz session. This is truly a gem and I think it will surely help future generations to become more passionate about Indian classical music as such a vast and beautiful art form. Gorgeous. It's a miraculous insight into his riyaz and more unadulterated thoughts. I have been hunting for a clip of Amir Khan saheb singing bhairav. Other than that 2/3 min clip of him singing "Karim Rahim Bande Nawaz" in an interview, none exist. So thankful that you have posted this.

Thank you for this rare treasure. It's a pity that no one cared for making a professional recording of Amir Khan Sahab's Bhairav. Is there any recording of him singing the great Jhaanptaal bandish in Bhairav- "Daridra dukh bhanjana?" Bhairav is one of the most important ragas for learning.

Bhairav is the first raga taught in Indian Classical Music and it's a pity that nobody cared for recording Bhairav of Ustad Faiyaz Khan, Ustad Abdul Karim Khan, Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan and Ustad Amir Khan. It's a sign how unconscious we are about preserving and practising our musical heritage. Also, nobody recorded Pandit Baskar Buva Bakhle! Such a great loss to music!
But also considering the time and location. And that this isn’t now or then popular music. To have as many live concerts recorded as there is is miraculous
