    I remember Sandfords DIY. I lived in Wootton Bassett as a kid. I also remember a grass verge planted with daffodils spelling out spring has sprung. This was on the duel carriageway before Sandfords. The Anchor butter factory was also near here. It's strange what you remember from your childhood. If I remember right the butter factory was a mustard yellow colour.

    Paul Langcaster says Swindon is celebrating 175 years this year - this is factually incorrect. New Swindon consisting of the railway village is 175 years old, the Old Town is considerably older.

    Sorry to be picky, but Swindon Corporation didn't buy Lydiard Manor and its grounds in 1943, it was purchased by Alderman Francis Akers and gifted to the people of Swindon.
