By that time weeks had passed, they should be dead but they weren't, thatsense of hope moved the country, everyone was happy for seeing alive people they have never seen before, the patriotism was felt like never before, at least I've never seen it like that, I remember some days when the national TV would show the mine and the updates all day. Then we received live footage, we felt like we were with them, we laughed with them, we cried with them, some days even eat with them, sleep by their sides. And then the Phoenix was a thing, and it went down which was pretty shocking but when we saw the first guy outside we felt a joy that I haven't felt before, it was like he was a relative, they felt like family by that time, and then the last one came out almost a day after and it was cathartic, they're free. People we never knew, people that didn't know us, people that to this day dont know me, but we know them, that sunrise when the last one came out everyone hugged each other, like brothers and sisters, like a single family. It was something pretty bad, and I hope it never happens again, but for a single time for that period, even more for that last minute when we saw the face of the last Chilean, we were one nation, we had a thousand differences, but that single thing those 33 miners, made a whole country with millions of people feel united and feel proud of where we come from, something pretty rare these days.

I'm reminded of one time I was playing The Long Dark, and was trapped in a cave for several in-game days. I don't remember exactly how long. The game has a feature called Auroras, which in the game's canon, are electric storms that are capable of reviving the electronics that had been disabled by a particularly large one, causing the Quiet Apocalypse. During Auroras, you can explore areas which would otherwise be inaccessible. They house large amounts of high-level loot and supplies... but as you might expect, if you spend too long, you can become trapped. They're fairly rare, occurring maybe once or twice per in-game month. I became lost in a mine during an Aurora, which I'd made a note to sweep as quickly as I could, given the fact I wasn't familiar with the territory. By the time I found the elevator shaft again, it was far too late. It was probably the most damned I'd ever felt in a video game. I searched as thoroughly as I could for any other exit, anywhere, perhaps an entrance to this part of the cave meaning that the room I had *entered* from was the inaccessible one. But after a couple of ingame days, I realized I was wasting my time. I had found food and water in the mine, but not all that much, and before long I ended up having to ration out the very firewood that was keeping my body above hypothermia. It was just a matter of whether I'd last until the next Aurora or not. I did, thankfully, but that experience stuck with me for the rest of my time with The Long Dark. I highly recommend the game, btw. It's just... incredible. What survival games should aspire to, really.
I remember having their rescue live-streamed in my classroom for days when this happened. I felt an added sense of horror because only a few years prior, my dad had gone down that exact mine to work on machinery. I remember watching those poor trapped souls and how by only the grace of a few years, my dad was saved from that same fate. An odd feeling to have while sitting in a classroom all the way in Canada, lmao.

Ours brains really always try to find a way to explain things and with utter silence and darkness our brains starts picking out patterns that don’t exist and sounds to make sense
"I was with God, and with the Devil. God took me" is a strong quote. They went through hell, but with each other's company and the hope of being rescued it didn't feel as bad. Or at least that's what I hope, it doesn't sound fun at all to be so deep down, with so little to do, for months
@@mjolninja9358 lmao, true. I don't believe in God, but don't shame people that do. I do however prefer to believe that something like Heaven exists, I want to think I'll see my lost loved ones again. In any case, there's only one life and no retries on it, and I'll try my best to use it well. Edit: also my ass needs to explain shit in less words
This reminds me of the time when my teacher once told me a story about a kid that was left underground and a building was built on top of them. I didn’t know it was bullshit until years later, I realized you can’t live off of eating and drinking your own waste and insects.
I was legitimately wondering if he was going to make this his next thing. Granted, with the way things are currently in the world, I find myself tempted by the prospect.
I am from Chile and I wonder why is he talking bout it, this was more than a decade ago and there is a movie about it, which is of course only in English.

"I feel I don't exist anymore." "I was with God and with the Devil, God took me." In one scenario, you're alone, you've got everything you need, and you know you'll get out. In the other, you have company, enough food to survive, but you don't know if you'll ever make it out.
Knowing you wont get out is equally as peaceful. The pain comes from the wobbling and uncertainty between. "I feel I don't exist anymore." In my personal experience, when you sit alone with yourself for a long time, doing nothing except being, you realize that there is no self, and in seeing that, you are free from the uncertainty of the world.
@@ChrisJones-rd4wb I think knowing you wont get out is even more terrifying, the uncertainty before that at least gives a small hope of survival but 100 percent chance of death can change anyone no matter where you are.
@@joedavidson7893 The thing is, we all have a 100% chance of death no matter the circumstances. So, I find it a lot more peaceful to be surrounded by others with the resources available to sustain yourself until your inevitable death. @@joedavidson7893 I do extreme sports, and have experienced what it was like to fully accept death. There was no time more peaceful in my life than then. Alan Watts explains this experience beautifully. th-cam.com/video/3drJghS80sI/w-d-xo.html
I love how all the videos play out like they're on a real TV station. Like I love the little "to be continued" bits for pretend ad-breaks. Reminds me of watching PBS as a kid. This channel is seriously underrated.
Around the 8 minute mark, what this woman experiences is what it’s like to have ADHD or to be neurodivergent. She describes perfectly what it’s like to live as me, I have time blindness, executive dysfunction, I can’t concentrate on stuff. I experience this every day of my life and thought for a very long time everyone experienced life like that and were struggling just as much as I was and this video made me realise even more how unusual it is haha
I have really bad time blindness, one case of this was I accidentally played around in my room for what I thought was 7-8 hours (it was 24 hours) I also find it extremely hard to focus on anything for more than 10 mins (I think lol) without being like ooh a cloud. And I’m really glad to see that I’m not the only one, hope you’re doing well -sincerely Kiyoshi
I feel like I had this too when I was younger I would play for long hours without eating much. Now I regularly drink water and check the time, try getting into this habit!
Isolation seems common with how many people in the current day and age spending most of their time inside of their house behind computers or consoles, but true isolation with no form is social interaction can be destructive to a person’s mental health.
I love how these two stories are gently intertwined, like someone lovingly weaving a basket. One thread is made of flower stalks and willow vines, the other is made of bloody veins. Visceral horror and scientific curiosity braided together into one thing, enjoyed by (and unnerving to) all.
The second one about the mining incident almost had me crying. Imagine being there, not knowing if you'll ever make it out. And then, against all likelihood, in a miracle, a drillbit comes down to tell you that you've been found.
Her story reminds me of the game “The Longing.” A king’s creation must wait in a cave for 400 (real days, for us) before he can leave. I would look it up, it’s really fascinating
and the sad fact is that most of those miners went back to working in the same conditions before being basically buried alive :) i remember when this happened, it was like 6 months after the earthquake as well
I remember reading about this (the fashion designer down in the cave) in National Geographic around 1991. I've thought about this story many times over the years. Glad to happen upon it again!
your channel is stupidly underrated for no reason. your videos are national geographic quality and they manage to hook me, and every single other viewer in for the entire duration. i know you been at this youtube game for over a year now, but i really feel like this year is your big break. keep up the great work, man.
I don't know why but whenever you talk in your videos, it gives me a feeling that something terrifying is going to happen and I still watch them, half scared and half fascinated
I got 3 ads that were 30 seconds and for once in my life I actually sat thru them so I could have a little pause. Your videos are so beautifully made 🥺
I recently discovered this channel. Few channels can keep me interested for the full length of the video. I've been on a binge watch since, and now I get a new one!
For anyone who wants to know, the name of the song that immediately plays at the start of the video is called ‘Sunshine Rain’ by Brendon Moeller. It’s on Spotify.
Honestly, Disrupt's videos are the definition of "quality content". The amount of effort, research, editing, and time for each of these videos are insane.
I remember watching the mining incident play out over several months as a child, it was horrifying even being on the outside watching on, I think it solidified my fear of being trapped somewhere.
Oh yes, the 33 miners incident shook our country. We were on edge everyday, watching through the TV how everything took place. It was such a relief to know everyone was okay. Interesting how both topics are based on the same thing but, thanks to the conditions, are total opposites. Loved it.

"I feel I don't exist anymore."
"I was with God and with the Devil, God took me."
In one scenario, you're alone, you've got everything you need, and you know you'll get out.
In the other, you have company, enough food to survive, but you don't know if you'll ever make it out.
Knowing you wont get out is equally as peaceful.
The pain comes from the wobbling and uncertainty between.

In my personal experience, when you sit alone with yourself for a long time, doing nothing except being, you realize that there is no self, and in seeing that, you are free from the uncertainty of the world.
