Sure he has everything in control. True about the money, but Tommy often thinks he is the smartest person in the room when he’s not. But he also makes his own lucky at times and is well prepared. But season/series 5 illustrates how he can be too cocksure
@@LaCheeserie Well, he is. Troubles always happen when someone doesn't listen to what he says, that's basically the common factor of every season's plot.
I disagree when Spartan says Tommy is unhinged. He has every right to feel like he does. ****if anyone is unhinged it's Michael. In my opinion of course.
It was an insane amount of money. For that amount of money and betrayal, anyone would ditch you, even your own family. Its literally the destruction of the whole family, all their livelihoods were depending on that money source. And it all went through the window for not listening to Tommy this one time. Tommy deserves to feel as much rage as he wants in this. In fact he was surprisingly calm, taking into account what happened. Unhinged is crazy, all of us would have reacted way worse.
The scene with the Billy Boys was so unbelievable to me that I had to pause it to just walk around my room for a few minutes after I saw that. It was so fucking unreal how brutal they were. That scene sticks out to me more than any other in the entire show
Tommy saying "in all the world, of all of the people, you alone I know I can trust" to Johnny Dogs hurts because it means Tommy doesn't trust Arthur because he's always been too unstable and he's on cocaine, he doesn't trust Michael for obvious reasons, he doesn't trust Finn because he's too green and hasn't been to war, he doesn't trust Lizzie or Ada because they've questioned him in the past. So he's basically trusting a distant cousin not necessarily because they're friends or anything, but because at least this guy has never screwed him over.

Controversial thing to know here Spartan : when you said "the opposite of his party", it isn't quite right. Although we consider communism far left and fascism far right, it would be more appropriate to see them as concurrent ideologies for the worker class of the time that were both opposed to liberal democracy and capitalism. Mussolini, who created fascism, was a very active socialist before the war, but the war made him a strong nationalist (which socialist aren't). So basically, Fascism first evolved from socialism and then developped on its own, offering a compromise (protection of the elites in exchange of total government control) for conservatives who feared a communist revolution. (Hence why "nazi" is a surname for "National-Socialists). They sure are totally opposed on some core principle (ex: equality in socialism vs hierarchy in fascism, no private property in socialism vs corporatism in fascism) but they are both utopian totalitarian ideologies where the state have full power. So all that to say that when they say to Mosley that he's "taking another direction" towards fascism, they mean that he is a socialist that's being tempted by this new alternative. At this moment in history, people saw fascist as just another kind of socialist movement, but obviously, we know where it's gonna lead. (I know some will want to argue, but I'm not trying to start a debate here folks... Only explaining why Mosley is in the Labour party (the same as Thomas) at the time of this episode.)
I dont fully agree with you but all I want to say is that these two give some nice reactions but are COMPLETELY lacking when it comes to historical knowledge
She, like Tommy, came from a reality of great poverty. She, like Tommy, did things she's not proud of and they both like the money. But the big thing is that when there are feelings everything gets more complicated. She was left with the duality of: Leave or stay? She chose to stay, and it's clear that it wasn't just for the comfortable life. Thomas also made his choice, when he burned the letter. HE also wanted her to stay. the difference is that everyone involved in a certain way saw the danger, everyone had their limits, everyone: Polly, Lizzie, Adda, Linda, Esme, even Arthur himself. The only one who had no limitations was Thomas himself
@gabrielefaleta1628 At that point of time, without knowing about the Billy Boys, the situation was much more dangerous around Tommy way before her pregnancy. Again, she knew what she was in for 🤷♂️
@ wow, of course. They both knew, right? He wasn't forced to get married, and neither was she. It may have been some kind of business agreement or for his political image, but he wanted to get married. Because if he didn't want to, he would continue with the plan of "I'll buy you a nice house and you'll receive a monthly pension.." And again, when there are feelings everything becomes more complicated.
@gabrielefaleta1628 That's my whole point, if you feel (and know) that it will be too dangerous just say no and run. Don't be angry with your partner after a few years, nice dresses, jewelry and a manor with maids, because he is still doing activities that maintain such a lifestyle. Of course she can change but don't blame the person who didn't.
The issue of Tommy not having men protecting his house is not a question of money because that's what he has, it's more a question of Tommy's own style because since the first season he likes to solve everything alone
32:45 Lizzie always seems to forget who she was until she became a Shelby. Telling Tommy to get out of "her house"?!? Tommy' work paid for everything and then they all live a life of luxury and take it out on Tommy when it's convenient for them. Linda and Lizzie, especially. Ada and Polly grasps the concept of what's going on.
Mosley was the historical founder and leader of the British Union of Fascists. The Scottish Billy Boys were Scottish protestant loyalist involved in right wing politics and gangsters and close associates of Northern Ireland loyalist protestant paramilitaries who fought against the I.R.A. Irish nationalist (maininly catholic) paramilitaries who also were involved in rackets to finance their guerrilla warfare.
