This is genuinely some of the most well-crafted piece of documentary I've ever seen in my life. It's engaging in a way that is not an essay, but is a story. The way you can make that story be both factual, expert backed, and very visually creative and entertaining makes people open their eyes to ideas and realities that they're otherwise maybe too bored or not willing to dive into. When you make films, Max, remember that you're fucking good at it and you're actively making people see new ideas. Thanks for putting this up for free, although is a true work of art that is priceless
Totally. It’s just frustrating that an excellently crafted film like this is reaching such a small part of the community he’s built. TH-cam does not reward this sort of content anymore.
The storytelling, the camera work, the creative representations, and most importantly the content... Just outstanding work, this deserves soo much more recognition 🙏🏻
I think happiness is like a carrot at the end of a stick that that someone is holding in front of themselves. It dangles in front of you, just out of reach. You can waste your life running and reaching for as long you care to or you can put down the stick and carrot and look around at what you have. Look behind you and see all that you’ve been running past while you’ve been laser focused on getting the things that will always be just out of reach as long as you chase them. Happiness isn’t a thing to get, a destination to run toward or a status to achieve. It is feeling, a state of mind. This is accessible once you stop, become still, and have gratitude for all that is around you right now. You’ll find that it’s been with you all this time. You just have to give it space, time and attention so it has a place to grow. May ALL beings find peace.
Incredibly sobering to realize that achieving these happiness metrics - in America - means that sure, you won’t be “killing it”, but, worse of all, society will do everything to kill you.
Max, the bookstore episode was mind-blowing! So much to unpack there, and it's inspired me to keep reading even five years later. You're a master storyteller, and this video is absolutely one of your best. I completely connected with it!
Max never fails to amaze me. He is a wonderful storyteller. At this day and age we need more people like Max to reverse this self distraction culture we have going on. As Joshua luke smith says “this is the main event” , we should relearn to be content and grateful for who we are and what we have.
This was to the point and beautifully crafted. I especially enjoyed the visualization of the neurotransmitter cup-filling model. I cannot wait to see what you put out next.
This is by far one the most informative piece of work, which combines science + storytelling in a way that any normal person can be benefitted by it. I really appreciate your work and thank you for putting your efforts for delivering such a magnificent work of art. Thank you
I dont know How long has it been since I have seen a new video of YOURS. Max, I just want you to know, you know inspire people hundreds of thousands of miles away. Love you!
To each their own eh? People who find fulfillment in creating content may not find peace living in New Zealand and hiking every Sunday. Get out there and find your own answers
“If we find ourselves with a desire that nothing in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that we were made for another world.” -C.S. Lewis
I always have very high expectations when you tease or release something, so I was happy when I saw this was coming. As always, my expectations were exceeded...and I'm not sure there's someone making stuff along these lines that I look forward to more than you. Always: thank you so much for the effort and sharing 😀
Super interesting! Though I’m curious to know whether your research included the perspective of people outside of the workforce. For a lot of families, achievement requires a division of labor, where one partner takes on a far greater share of child care tasks. I imagine that people in these roles experience a similar diminishing returns when it comes to time spent nurturing, family and community relationships. Especially when it comes at the expense of professional or individual achievement. I’m thinking in particular of the wife in Germany, who also suffered despite having more time with her children.
Fantastic as expected and learned some new stuff to boot. It’s also really reassuring to hear people who have “made it” struggle just like anyone else. Not that I’m happy they’re struggling, but just that “making it” doesn’t seem like something everyone is capable of doing. So if “making it” were the key to happiness, that would be pretty depressing since only some people would be able to get it.
That's one way to do it. But you are capped by your biology. Meaning that all those neurotransmitters aren't the happiness itself, they are the signals that trigger the conscious experience of happiness. Not only is it possible to go directly to the source, it is FAR more powerful. There is almost no limit to how happy\fulfilled\at peace you can be. At least those are the claims of many advanced meditators, I don't speak from experience.
This started out as a great and creative documentary. I’m a bit disappointed that this video ended in sales pitch for yet another way of health optimization.
After finishing the video, I understand now that contact with people and feeling like they love you enough to let you touch them and be close and real with them is what matters most.
Max, i love your storytelling style. It is superb. Sending you happiness from South Africa. Although we are 2nd on the unhappy list, we as South Africans always find a way to laugh at ourselves. To everyone, don't take life too serious, it is short and precious. ❤
You guys! Got to go to Max’s premiere last night and saw a few more episodes! Definitely keep watching this series. Max my dude, always doing the best work! Love it!
Understanding the complexities of mental health is crucial in today's society, especially as we navigate the pursuit of happiness amidst success and achievement. 🧠 It's eye-opening to see how societal factors like collectivism and performance orientation can significantly impact mental well-being.
The way you make these videos really inspire me and the kind of message that you are delivering to the audience is excellent. Keep up the great work and keep doing more such work! My best wishes.
Wow what a masterpiece-I was completely engaged. This was easily as good as any big budget documentary I have watched. It is such a valuable topic to discuss when we have been completely brainwashed into believing the wrong things will make us happy. Work really hard, achieve great things and you will be happy and can have a nice retirement. Guess what you missed everything along the way and are now too old to enjoy it. Thanks Max for the great work and I am looking forward to the next instalments

My happiest thing is sleeping on the couch with my cat resting on my tummy.
THIS is what I love about TH-cam. Storytelling like Max's will always trump the loud and obnoxious side of TH-cam.
Totally. It’s just frustrating that an excellently crafted film like this is reaching such a small part of the community he’s built. TH-cam does not reward this sort of content anymore.
Facts.

the heart and soul of TH-cam. You’re videos remind me of why I’ve dedicated my life to documentary. So so so good
We are so glad you liked it, Bella!
I gotta love how this mini doc was made! Being happy really is about community, not milestones
This is a pure gem of film.

Only here because of News Daddy but was pleasantly surprised with how good this was.
Newsdaddy brought me here but big fan of Max.❤
It is refreshing to see a documentary style story that is focused on finding the positive things in life. Thank you for what you do!
Films like this is what TH-cam was made for…. ❤🙏🏻👍🏻
It’s nice to see something without 1000 things happening at once. The internet has become so chaotic
This might just be the most important video on the internet, depending on how much value you can extract from it.
Incredibly sobering to realize that achieving these happiness metrics - in America - means that sure, you won’t be “killing it”, but, worse of all, society will do everything to kill you.

The years between each Max video are always worth waiting for. Thank you for your masterpiece.
Here for news daddy and kinda glad I did.
To be able to produce a film like this in itself might be true "Happiness". Loved the entire film. And the way credits were displayed was beautiful.
Return of a great, so excited!
We are the happiest country in the world and we don’t even know it but it feels like it everyday 🇩🇴🇩🇴🇩🇴❤
