Male psychologist here.. I grew up on this music and believe an entire generation found solitude in the emotional expression of all the pain and distress their parents had no words or tools for. Drugs, divorce, death, we had no way to cope and no online communities. These metal artists SOAD, Slipknot, Korn, gave us a conduit to express the emotion we didn't even know we had. I'll forever be grateful for the connection I felt through headphones sitting in the dark alone..

@@Rogers_Ranger We all miss something. Even the most balanced of upbringings and emotional subtstance can sometimes not offer what you need. I can see your question, however, we all miss something. Interesting you associate SoaD, S/K and Korn - to me they are totally different. S/K I can only manage one cover version, because the cover artist does it better. My brother raves to me about Korn - but they miss me somewhere, not over the top I am sure. SoaD are great though.
This song was so controversial that the label refused to use the original name of “suicide” which forced the band to change the name to their favorite Chinese fast food. By the next year it was the most requested song on the biggest rock station in America
Yes. The band wanted to call the song "suicide" but it was deemed to be too negative. They chopped "suicide" down to "Sui"........ chopped sui............chop suey.

Funny that the two songs she has reacted to so far Duality/Chop Suey were produced by Rick Rubin. And System Of A Down's first tour for this album "Toxicity" which this song is on, was with Slipknot in 2001.
Hi, I love the reaction! I would love to hear your thoughts on their song Dreaming - not one of their biggest songs, but definitely subject matter that would interest you. Thanks!
I'd like to recommend a band called The Warning and 3 songs in particular. 1) When I'm Alone 2) Black Holes 3) Breathe. Specifically the live versions of these songs from Pepsi Center CDMX from 2023. Put on subtitles for When I'm Alone and Breathe.
"Erratic" might be the best description I've heard of this song and it applies to a lot of great songs. That factor makes it very relatable and cathartic to people who are suffering from and/or work with depression. Calm can lead to chaos and chaos can lead to calm and there is no real warning for either state of mind. This song isn't about depression directly though. It's a story of a drug addict OD'ing. A good person with a problem and how people will look down of people who OD and not giving a single thought to the person it actually happened to. But obviously most drug abuse is connected to mental issues and escaping the reality they can't deal with. "I cry when angels 'deserve' to die".
Chop Suey! by System of a Down based of this verse from the bible Mark 15:34 In-Context 34 And at three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?” (which means “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”).
It’s almost like alternative music addresses the reality of the human condition in all its crazy forms 🤔 Human expression through music when it’s real touches us. Alternative music is made in the large part by people that deeply feel that battle between the light and dark. Be it traumatic experiences , substance abuse issues or generally experiencing emotional pain more than “regular” folk. That’s why it’s so relatable and offers people going through a difficult time something that’s says ‘I know that pain’ It’s great that you have found this out. Music as part of therapy should be a more commonly practised thing
I totally dig the reactions. It's cool watching you watch her reactions, too. Cool channel, great message, always entertaining! As I always do..screaming Motionless in White, Thoughts and Prayers! Be easy!!
As someone who has had mental health demons for a long time (I'm ok. I wasn't for a long time but I understand myself well enough to manage my lows) the juxtaposition of constant hiding of what you feel with the moments of crying out for help is very real. The lengths I would go to be the funny and outgoing centre of the world so no-one would expect me to be in such a dark place. Only to leave hints to the world... It was like screaming for help into a pillow so no-one would notice.... To anyone that does feel that way I wish you the best. It gets easier. If it's not getting easier please either get help you definitely deserve or at the very least try something new to break the cycle of self abuse. I focused on my strengths rather than my shortcomings (and found an amazing partner in life helped). I'm still self-conscious about my shortcomings. But they're easier to swallow if you see what you do well. Be well all

The song Chop Suey resonates with me. It makes so much sence. I hope the therapy brings me what I need (I am in good hands, I know that, but it is still difficult). You have to listen to Breathe by The Warning, live at the Pepsi Centre. The writer described it as a panic attack set to music. The song writer said she'd never play it live but it was such a special night she felt complelled to.
Sometimes there is no strength, To get up and go, And there is no one to help you on this path, And there is no one to tell that everything will be fine, That this is only the beginning, and at the beginning it is hard. It is not easy to lift the weight of dropped hands, Especially when a friend has betrayed you, And every day turns into a furious battle, And this is also a war, but a war with yourself.
2:34. Have you ever thought about re-reacting to it once you have heard it ? I would love to see you guys play it back again after you talk about it for a minute. That might be a new TH-cam thing! Start it! You’re welcome!😆🌿🌸

Sometimes there is no strength,
To get up and go,
And there is no one to help you on this path,
And there is no one to tell that everything will be fine,
That this is only the beginning, and at the beginning it is hard.
It is not easy to lift the weight of dropped hands,
Especially when a friend has betrayed you,
And every day turns into a furious battle,
And this is also a war, but a war with yourself.
