    All to save Jeremy Clarkson’s tax dodge. The tax has to come from somewhere, so why should the rest of us pay for Mr Clarkson and those Brexit-voting farmers?

    Brexit and the post Brexit trade deals are the existential threat to farming, but do we hear that from 'farmers' like Dyson and Clarkson.

      @@tidtidy4159 YES but NO! The old UK marketing boards were very destructive by demanding changes (to look good in headlines) but did NOT support farmers correctly and sympathetically. A family run farm in Westmorland (cold and wet) is vERY different to the Home counties.

    I want Labour to make farming easier and more profitable for ordinary farmers (not those big industrial factory farms which I believe we need fewer of). I want rich landowners who don't use the land productively to be taxed more and that's what I hoped Labour was doing with their inheritance tax proposals (I was completely ignorant of inheritance tax as applied to farms until Labour announced their policy).
    Labour need to think again about how this policy is being applied and to whom, they need to be careful they don't hit family farms and our food security unnecessarily with the climate crisis bearing down on us. This also includes taking strong action to reverse Brexit as much as is politically possible, I'm still waiting for more than warm words from Starmer.

    • @trident6547
      @trident6547 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      You cannot reverse brexit at all. UK has left EU and is now a third country for the countries in EEA. EEA Is the European Economic Agreement with 27 EU members = first countries and 3 EFTA members = second countries. UK and EU has the TCA agreement wich EU has no interest to renegotiate. especially since UK has still not fully implement that agreement and the Withdrawal Agreement. Starmer already tried to get some concessions but was sent home with a list of breaches of the agreements UK has to take care of first.

    • @playcloudpluspc
      @playcloudpluspc 17 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      @trident6547 Not accepting the EU youth mobility scheme immediately is an example of the obstinacy that I'm talking about. I would be so grateful if such a mutually beneficial scheme were presented to me as PM, but Starmer is worried about what the Daily Mail will say rather than what his voters want.

    • @playcloudpluspc
      @playcloudpluspc 16 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      @@trident6547 There is also the question of the UK's ridiculous red lines which were put in place by Conservative Brexiteers, why is Starmer sticking so rigidly to them as a Labour Prime Minister? If I were in his place I would institute free movement unilaterally for EU citizens, this would make things much easier where there are labour shortages as a result of Brexit and would restore one of the key pillars of the EU single market (even if applied only to EU citizens and not to UK citizens).

    I have no problem with ‘true’ farmers inheriting land tax-free, as long as they farm the land for at least 20 years. Farmers are one of the most important sectors in our country. They need to be subsidised much more and bring back RRP for things like milk to increase income and stop supermarkets from reducing the price of the produce and making excessive profits. ->I am also dubious of the subsidies to turn our farm land back to golden meadows etc. We need all the land we can get for farming otherwise our food supply security will be compromised.
    However, the land can’t be used to reduce the inheritance tax bill for rich people to pass on to their kids such as Dysan, Clarkson, Webber etc. This infuriates me. I didnt even realise this was a thing until this tax was proposed by RR. If this tax scam persists then I might invest in a farm myself because my pension pot will now not be able to be passed on IHT-free (and I am actually ok with this - it’s fair). This tax would also naturally start to reduce the value of the land making it easier for genuine farmers to buy land.
    Liz you are one of my heroes on youtube and X. You must understand the dilemma that this causes. For my own interest do you have children that stand to gain from this tax? Will they just pocket the money and ride off into the sunset OR will your kids keep the land for farming?

    Farmers, for a fraternity; that don't earn any money, they sure do drive some very expensive cars and talk with accents more befitting their private school educations, than the more rural accents, that one normally associates with farmers.

    Brexit is irrelevant and certainly NOT a "disaster". What is an utter disaster is Reeves's budget. Growth had returned to our economy with with something of a bang in the run-up to the general election. That was the official opinion of forecasters who declared that the UK economy was “going gangbusters” and on track to grow by 2.5pc per year - “a rate rarely seen since the financial crisis”, the Office for National Statistics said. What has happened in the six short but dismal months since Labour took office? Growth has flatlined, leaving it on course to increase a risible 0.1pc. The UK to now be staring stagnation in the face is a truly shocking reversal and Labour are to blame.

      The UK was in a recession when Sunak called for an early general election and new predictions forecast strong economic growth next year. The problem with predictions is they are unreliable and politically motivated.

      @@reinholdmueller4882 The UK was not in recession when Sunak called the election. That statement is factually incorrect. Perhaps you are confusing the UK with Germany. The "gangbusters" comment was based on performance in the first half of 2024. It was by the independent ONS and not politically motivated.
