  • This is a review and operation of the Grizzly G0817. The saw has been setup with a 1/2" Wood Slicer blade and performs very well.

Recently I installed a Laguna Resaw King blade in the saw. I used the 1/2" width blade. I was a bit concerned about putting such an expensive blade in a saw that was run by some pretty inexperienced users. The results have been fantastic! The blade has been installed for several weeks now, and appears to be cutting even smoother than when it was first installed.
To give you an idea of what equipment in a makerspace is subject to, we had a Wood Slicer blade installed. A Wood Slicer is a very nice blade, but somewhat delicate. One member was resawing some oak, and dulled the blade do to too much pressure on one side of the blade. He continued to cut, the smoke didn't seem to bother him. The blade got so hot, it melted the urethane tires and the blade popped off. I found the saw with an out of order tag and checked the wheels. I could not believe what I saw. I have never seen a saw where the blade had melted into the tires. This is all part and parcel to running a makerspace.
After 3 years of hard use, the saw is still working well.

Can you tell me what model # was of the blade you used? I'm having trouble finding the 120"x1/2" that would fit this saw. Thanks in advance!

@@makerspace533 I see on your site it says you guys have a Delta Band Saw, but this Grizzly isn't mentioned. Do you still have it? Or do you have both now? Thank you for the help!

@@eskimo289 We still have the Grizzly resaw, we also have a 14" Delta with Carter stabilizer guides we use for scroll type work and a 14" jet used for general bandsaw work.

Thanks for the video I am thinking of getting this model. There is another brand which I would loose 1 inch of resaw, but save a few hundred. So still deciding. Good see a video on this though thanks

Did you have to adjust the fence for drift for the resaw? I used a laguna 14/12 for about 4 years and tried resawing 8 in mahogany. It really did a bad job and I couldn’t figure out what I did wrong. It was thick on one side thin on the other, the saw blade bowed in the wood so I had bellies in my pieces. It was a mess, plus I wasted two great chunks of mahogany I was going to use for my guitars. I had a new blade when I started the resawing too. I had it adjusted for drift on a smaller piece as well.

Thanks for the review. I have been considering this saw, but have not found a video review on it until now. It helps a lot. Is there anything you would consider a weakness of the saw? Also are you running at the pre-wired 120 or 240 volts?

I wish the fence was a bit better. It does not feel all that solid when adjusting, however, when locked down it is quite sturdy. I guess I'm used to a heavy Biesemeyer type table saw fence. I also wish the brake pedal was a bit lower, maybe 2". We are running it off 120VAC with no problems. As long as you have a 20A circuit, it should not be a problem. I noticed someone was slicing up a 2x12 the other day. Even though it was yellow pine, the slices looked very even.

I would love to know how sturdy the blade guard is. It looks like it might move quite a bit cutting shorter stock.

Yes, it is still working well, despite the use by so many in our makerspace.

I am getting ready to buy this saw. I had to return the17" bandsaw to grizzly from damage by UPS freight. Saw your video and decided to go with to smaller saw that can run on 110V instead of the 220V. Running out of power in my garage shop. Where did you purchase the 120" blade you referred to in the video? Let me know. Thanks

I just ordered G0817 and am a bit concerned about opening of lower door due to wheel base. Did you later figure out a solution by any chance ?
