    I have had horses for over 30 years. 2 of them from the wild. Even though domesticated, I never take for granted any horse is completely safe. The second you take them for granted, something could happen. Always be prepared and listen to your intuition when dealing with animals of any kind. Love your videos! ❤

    • @JustGettinBy1321
      @JustGettinBy1321 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Agreed! I grew up on a farm, & currently have a mini horse that lives on my dad's ranch. I've had her for 10 years (adopted from a shelter). But even working with her for that long & even with her being a mini (though a large one... almost pony size, but proportional), I never stand directly behind her & am conscious of where my fingers are when hand-feeding her. We have to remember that as much as we love them, they're still animals, & they can still hurt us, whether intentionally or unintentionally. I always say that I'm not afraid of the animals I'm around (cows, including longhorns, goats, including a huge billy goat, llamas, a donkey, etc), but I respect them.

      Same here. I have had horses for several decades now and as much time as I spend with them, they can still be unpredictable. Regardless, I still love my horses more than life itself and could not live without them.

He says this is the source of that 'feeling' we get that something is 'off', and that we should not ignore it.

This is hard wired in us as a basic survival mechanism, no different than the gator.

    I loved this! Really interesting and such a good lesson - trust your gut. Once while I was at work I saw a customer pull up and he had his dogs in the car, so I went out to see them. They were two sweet pit bulls and I would always bring them a treat so they were excited to see me. As I bent down towards the window I noticed a third dog, and the guy said he had just come from adopting him at the shelter. I looked at the dog, who was completely still, and something told me to back up, at which point he lunged towards the window where my face had just been. My knees went weak at the thought of what would have happened if I hesitated for even a second. That day my brain was like, "You're welcome, idiot!"😂

    This kinda reminds me of when I used to have a pet snake (small one, not venomous, can't really harm you beyond biting you).
    Most of the time, the snake is trusting, chill, will come to get its food, can climb and wrap itself around your arm, be nice and chill and all. Sometimes though, the temperature is off, or there's a lot of noise, or you make a sudden movement without realizing, and the snake FREAKS OUT and tries to bite you / run away / just does random shit it wouldn't do in normal circumstances.

    I can explain how you know Chris, its very simple, the skills and knowledge you have learned in your lifetime working with dangerous animals, your skill set it second too none, you can read most of the wild/captive animals from your skill set too read signs that others would never ever see, even down too detecting a snake/aligator hidden in brush etc, you skills are soo good your 'inner conciseness' picks up the tiniest thing, it may be a simple movement, the way the animal is breathing, or the habitate your viewing, it's could be a conbination of thousands of little things that you pick up that makes your conciseness pick up the possible hidden dangers, which them makes you more careful, this might not be the case, but its as good as any other theory, but I might be right?.

    From what I've gathered the "6th sense" comes from experience: The subconscious brain stores all images from your life (something that is impossible for the conscious mind to process) and the moment the "picture" is different it manifests as a "feeling" you know it because it's different from the millions of times you've experienced it. You have it stored in your "data base" but the conscious mind can't pin point it.

    It's just that people forget that animals are like us, they also have days when they feel good and others when they feel bad, either because of some pain or because of something happened and we don't know...
    My dog was always nice, but one day she felt pain and bit me. I had to go to the hospital for stitches. She was always good but she has the right to feel things and express them. If I couldn't understand that that day she wasn't well, it was my fault and my bad luck.

    I firmly believe that these animals have thousands of years of solid hardwiring to act and behave a certain way. I think we as humans have a limited ability to acclimate these animals so certain things, sounds, movements, and actions. Notice I said limited as I feel in certain situations the true hardwiring does and will take over and this is how ‘things happen’ that can be quite unpleasant. I never believe they are our friends or that they love us. It’s sad and frightening when people believe these animals are capable of loving them.

    If you predict that they are unpredictable then their unpredictability won't matter, you'll stay away from them.

    This goes the same with domesticated animals. If people go in with the idea that there is alway that 1% chance that the animal can attack and be prepared for it there would be less animals attacks.
    My favorite line is that my pit bull would never attack you. Yes. Yes, it would. If I’m around a owner that talks like that I change the percentage from 1% to 40%

    Really good video. I am glad it came up for me today. I have a Rescue Green Iguana that is so volatile in flash, I never know who to expect to deal with. And, for all intents and purposes, he should not have any reason to. Thanks again.

    Just found your channel on facebook and had to come and sub on youtube. So much respect for you, they certainly aren't pets; they're bloody dinosaurs and always wild. Thankful for folks like yourself to educate the world
