Curly was always my favorite. When I was 7 years old I saw Moe waiting for a cab on a Saint Louis sidewalk. I told my mother, that is Moe! My mother told me to stop making things up. I ran to him and said hey Moe, trying to mimic Curly. He laughed and took a picture of himself out of his pocket and gave it to me. By then my mother was standing next to me. Moe asked her if she had a pen. Mom handed him a pen and he took his picture back and used my head as a desk to sign his picture. It hangs on the wall in my den today. Moe insisted that we share a cab and that he would pay for it, we were waiting on a city bus. We were going to the south side of St. Louis, Moe was headed to a hotel just few blocks away. He got out and gave the driver a $50 bill and told driver to take us as far as the money takes us. In 10 minutes he taught me the slap gag. He said pretend like the window is the camera. When you slap me we both turn away. We both look back towards the camera and it looks like you just slapped me. Mom was from the backwoods of North Carolina. I had the privilege of meeting Curly Howard's granddaughter. She worked at a miniature golf center at Kings Beach, Lake Tahoe. Employees had little signs they hung up in the clubhouse that told an interesting fact about themselves. Her's said she was the granddaughter of Curly Howard. We talked a bit about "grandpa." She was very accommodating about my questions. I've forgotten her first name, but she was very kind. I've always thought of the Stooges as one of the premiere comedy troupes of any era. Their inane antics still hold up today. Nobody delivered one-liners like those guys. And Curly's "mad dog" always makes me laugh.
When Shemp was brought back, it was supposed to be temporarily until Curly was able to come back to work. During his convalescence, Curly did make a cameo in the short "Hold That Lion" as the man under the hat on the train. This marked the only time the 3 brothers appeared on film together. Curly was also supposed to be in "Malice in the Palace" as the chef but he wasn't getting along well on the set. His scene was eventually cut and his lines given to Larry. There are stills of Curly in character wearing a chef's hat, a big mustache, and holding a meat cleaver and at the same time looking very thin. Unfortunately he had another stroke which killed any chance of him rejoining the team. His grandson Bradley has his own TH-cam channel and is a regular on the Three Stooges Channel available on several streaming services.
I found the joy of the Three Stooges shorts many many many years after they were in their prime. I was a six-year-old in 1987 when I saw my first Three Stooges short and I was hooked. My mother and grandmother were shocked and amused. I guess they figured that I would be one of those kids who thought that was not relatable or funny. I became an avid watcher, I would ask for VHS tape, which had their shorts and then later on when TCM became popular and started playing their shorts, I would be hooked to that TV waiting to see them. I would say any great entertainment transcends time. The Three Stooges is great entertainment.
You're right of course. Curly could not talk after his stroke. Which is why, in his last appearance with the Stooges, not only does he have hair (his real hair) but he does not speak at all.
In the 1950’s they were still showing Stooges shorts from the 30’s and 40’s at the local theater. All the boys were Stooges fans, not sure about the girls. Plenty of Curly imitators, but even for elementary school boys no one was dumb enough to ever poke anybody in the eyes.
My favorite line of mole telling curly what is about the nail into a wall the wrong way he says what are you using left-handed nails for that goes in the other wall
I particularly remember how Moe, in the anti-nazi shorts, would look at a portrait of Hitler and shout, "SCHICKLGRUBER!!!". It ALWAYS amused the hell out of me, but I never understood why he referred to Hitler as, "Schicklgruber". It was many years before I discovered that "Schicklgruber" was actually Hitler's true family name. That just made it even more amusing to me.
I found it a little amusing at the end when the narrator was talking about Hitler’s reaction to the 3 Stooges. Although he may have detested them for their portrayal of him the fact they were all Jewish and making fun of him probably had more to do with it. Moe, Curly and Shemp Howard were actually Moses, Jerome and Samuel Horowitz and Larry Fine was actually Louis Feinberg.
I always liked Shemp the most, He was his own unique stooge that didn't try to copy Curly. I also like how he challenges Moe more than Curly ever did in the shorts and his eep, eep ,eep ,eep, epp signature sound he makes is just hilarious! 😂
They were amazing, when i met my wife in 1987 she told me one of the things she loved about me was that i was a stooges fan, thats almost unheard of, i dont know a lot of women who liked the stooges .
The Three Stooges brought me so much laughter and enjoyment as a child. I watched them regularly on WLOS TV channel 13 Asheville, NC. Mr. Bill’s Cartoon Workshop. For one of my childhood birthdays I went to the Webb Theater in Gastonia, NC and watched “Stop! Look! And Laugh!” I laugh about them now at 72. A lifetime of laughter. Me TV airs them on Saturdays just before Svengoolie. The genius of these guys is eternal. Someone asked me if I still watch and love The Three Stooges. I said, “ Why….cointainly!”
My buddies and I went to see the Richard Pryor film, “Live on the Sunset Strip” at the old Circle Theatre in Down Town Annapolis back in the very early 80s. Richard’s film was very funny, but I recall us laughing even harder at the Stooges short they played just prior to the feature. There’s something extra special about Moe, Curly, Larry that struck hard at the funny bones of generations. I smile big when thinking of them. RIP boys. You’re always and forever in my heart. Nyuck, nyuck, nyuck! ♥️

I watched the stooges when I was a kid and I still watched them today and I am 61. They were comedic geniuses. I hate hearing about all the tragedy that occurred.
They used to air the Three Stooges on my local Detroit station every night at 11:30 followed by Laurel and Hardy. This was back in the early 80s. Some of the fondest memories of my life were staying up late camping out in the backyard with my friend , my father would bring out this little black and white TV for us to watch them.
15:58 - Der Furrer's hit list also included Chaplin, Jack Benny, Victor Borga and Spike Jones! All those men died of natural causes well after WWII was over...!
Healy's "heart attack " was questionable at best. The famous actor Wallace Berry allegedly beat him to death in a restaurant parking lot after a long standing feud and it was speculated that the powerful movie producer Irving Thalberg covered it up to avoid a studio scandal.
5:05. Curly didn't WEAR a wig after falling down an elevator shaft and cutting his scalp wide open when he struck an uncovered 2x4. A studio doctor covered the laceration with fake hair after sealing it with Colodian.
The last scene in Half Wits Holiday was Moe hitting Larry with a pie but that scene was supposed to have Curly saying "WHAT'S ALL THE RUMPUS?" AT WHICH POINT A CLEAN CURLY WAS SUPPOSED TO BE SHOWERED WITH PIES BUT OF COURSE CURLY HAD HAD A STROKE IN JULES WHITE'SDIRECTOR'S CHAIR SO MOE AND LARRY HAD TO DO THE LAST SCENE INSTEAD
I grew up watching The Three Stooges they're the only people who consistently have me crying from laughter every time I watch them. It doesn't matter if it's a skit I've seen before
I can imagine if they could have teamed up with their friends Laurel and Hardy, The Marx Brothers, and Charlie Chaplin. They have been making people laugh for 90 years now. And still going strong.

Being a 1946 Boomer I remember the Stooges from a young age, parked in a theatre with a zillion other military brats at the American PX in Vouluceau, Paris. They were met with the same delighted screams as the Warner Brothers Logo when we kids saw the intro flash up on the screen because mayhem was at hand and they never let us down. This video leaves me sympathetic for all of their problems but it also steeled my complete and utter loathing for the amoral Hollywood a$$hole$ in charge. Well, Holllywoodland as it was called until a strong wind knocked LAND off the end will have the rest of the hillside advert knocked down as word events unfold. Glory to the Stooges and the staggering amount of slapstick and thanks for each and every laugh.
Great info, thanks! I remember Moe on The Johnny Carson show one time answering a young lady's question of, "When was your last movie"? He, with much class, suggested that she ask it this way, "When was your most recent movie"? So cool!

Mother even got an autograph from molary and curly Joe.I believe it was, I don't know what happened to that.Would I wish I had it today just for the memories of them in my mother.
Agreed, Shemp had his own style to tease out the laughs, the three brothers were definitely cut from the same cloth. Different styles, but meshed so well together, and blessed us with hours of exhausted laugh muscles!

That's when the stooges really started showing there age compared to seeing there reruns on black and white T.V.
I did the math on what 7500 dollars was worth in todays dollars starting in 1935. 1000 dollars was worth $ 22,932 in todays dollars so they each made the equivalent of about $ 171,000 dollars today. That was what they were paid per short movie. were they getting screwed yes but they weren't starving either.

I wouldn't exactly say Curly resigned; he left due to his stroke. Resigned means to quit voluntarily. Curly didn't quit voluntarily.
You're right of course. Curly could not talk after his stroke. Which is why, in his last appearance with the Stooges, not only does he have hair (his real hair) but he does not speak at all.
They are etched in our hearts forever!
In the 1950’s they were still showing Stooges shorts from the 30’s and 40’s at the local theater. All the boys were Stooges fans, not sure about the girls. Plenty of Curly imitators, but even for elementary school boys no one was dumb enough to ever poke anybody in the eyes.
Just love to hear them talk & sound effects!
Larry Fine also had been a boxer -- which is difficult to envision!
He also sang/danced and played the violin 🎻
Larry Fine vs Tony Danza both in their primes, who wins?
@@Blas4ublasphemy Larry was a very small man. Maybe Tony Danza is also on the small side, but I doubt he is 3 Stooges small.
Timeless humor! I hope this humor is appreciated 500 years and beyond.
"I have six wives and two kids"....
They were amazing, when i met my wife in 1987 she told me one of the things she loved about me was that i was a stooges fan, thats almost unheard of, i dont know a lot of women who liked the stooges .
The Stooges had been performing for decades and were wildly popular for several decades, but didn't get a Hollywood star until 1983? Pitiful!
I watched these guys every morning before school when I was a kid. Awesome memories
I'll always love these guys. They were the greatest!
Curly and Shemp were definitely the funniest and my personal favorites!
I watched the stooges as a child in the 80’s and still watch them to this day!! All time classic!! I still love them!
I'm a proud owner of that box set that has every single Stooges short, cartoons, movies and t.v. shows. My son gave it to me as a christmas present and i will forever watch them.
I watched the stooges when I was a kid and I still watched them today and I am 61. They were comedic geniuses. I hate hearing about all the tragedy that occurred.
The crews shot over 200 films, sadly they all passed away broke. Many have laughed at these entertainers antics. Many thanks gentlemen!!!!!
The scar on Curly's left cheek was from a car crash in the 1930's with a trolley car.
Thank you. I always wondered.
No Seat Belts in those Days!
Simply the best
They used to air the Three Stooges on my local Detroit station every night at 11:30 followed by Laurel and Hardy. This was back in the early 80s. Some of the fondest memories of my life were staying up late camping out in the backyard with my friend , my father would bring out this little black and white TV for us to watch them.
RIP Thank 's for the laugh's and the memories
Some the best comedy EVER! Growing up in the 60s they were still king. I had some VHS tapes of in the late 80s
Best story that is closest to the TRUTH!
5:05. Curly didn't WEAR a wig after falling down an elevator shaft and cutting his scalp wide open when he struck an uncovered 2x4. A studio doctor covered the laceration with fake hair after sealing it with Colodian.
Shemp was underrated and amazing. I loved his "memememememe"
The guys were a source of laughter in my youth. I miss the old crews.
Nothing today or since the 70s for that matter, could even come close to those men 👏👏👏
I grew up watching The Three Stooges they're the only people who consistently have me crying from laughter every time I watch them. It doesn't matter if it's a skit I've seen before
I can imagine if they could have teamed up with their friends Laurel and Hardy, The Marx Brothers, and Charlie Chaplin. They have been making people laugh for 90 years now. And still going strong.
Absolutely the best show I grew up watching In the 70's. Good clean fun
If I gave you a dollar, your father gave you a dollar, how much would you have?
Larry: 1 dollar
You don't know your arithmetic...smh
Larry: you don't know my father🤣🤣🤣💀
The TRUE kings of comedy to this day. Not even a debate💪🏾👏🏾.
So cool!
This here is a very good follow-up on 3 Stooges' data and maybe even beyond possible expectations. But everyone should watch and see and enjoy this for themselves.
I was a Shemp man. Especially his fight scenes! 😂😂😂😂😂
I saw the 3 stooges live when I was a child probably about 5 or 6.They were honorary Ring masters of the ringling brothers circus and my parents took me to see them and the circus. In my.
Mother even got an autograph from molary and curly Joe.I believe it was, I don't know what happened to that.Would I wish I had it today just for the memories of them in my mother.
Shemp was underrated
My late father, who saw the shorts in the theater when they first ran when he was a kid, never liked Shemp. He was strictly a Curly guy!
He sure was! And he was my favorite stooge!
Curly was great mind you. But I will always have a special place in my heart for Shemp.
Agreed, Shemp had his own style to tease out the laughs, the three brothers were definitely cut from the same cloth. Different styles, but meshed so well together, and blessed us with hours of exhausted laugh muscles!
The Three Stooges will never go out of style, big fan of them for over 50 years. Nyuk,Nyuk,Nyuk.🫣🔨🤕🤣
my parents divorced when i was 5 and we moved to a new city. it was 1974. we had cable tv installed and a station from boston showed the three stooges every day, right after school. I ran home as fast as i could so i wouldn't miss a single minute.
Who remembers their mad mad mad world cameo?
You don't mention that Joe Besser, perhaps best known as Stinky from the Abbott and Costello show, was a member of the group between 1957 and 1959.
I don't really consider the real Three stooges.
Probably cause Joe Besser was a POS, who was uncooperative and refused to do the slapstick scenes, he was not who they wanted as Shemp’s replacement the wanted Joe DeRita but he was had a contract with Minskey’s Burlesque Co. when the contract ended Besser was given the boot. 🥾
He was AWFUL!
@@j.w.3345 I must admit I never saw any of his episodes.
@@angreagach 1956&1957. The last Stooge short was completed in December, 1957 exactly one month after completion of the last Superman episode with George Reeves.
I always thought that Curly was made for slapstick and was the funniest Stooge ever!
How many of you other than me spent days getting over a bad cold, eating soup and watching Three Stooges. On Sundays along with Abbot and Costello and alternating monster/kung-fu movies was my childhood.
these guys were tragic and heroic, they worked hard for years and unfortunately had to work more than they needed to due to their issues that the public never knew about
Karma caught Haley lol 🤣 hahaha
You may be gone but not forgotten still going to moe howard and shemp howard and curly howard and larry fine you brought laughter for generations here we are laughing hysterically to the funniest men god bless you knuckleheads the Howard's and fine family would be proud and laughing no one close to the 3 stooges your legacy of laughter and slapstick still continues cried and cried nearly died of laughter couldn't breathe and stop laughing appreciate a good laugh and the memories after all these years later great job people you should be proud way to go very impressed !!!! Joe
during school breaks/vacations, I always looked forward to watching the 3 stooges. I didn’t know they were siblings.
that explains why Moe was often the protagonist of the 3 lol.
Yeah I got into the Stooges when I was a teen. They were aired every Sunday on "The New VR" as "Stooge Fest". For a solid 3 hours (I think it was 3) they aired episodes back to back and I loved it. I still have old VHS recordings lying around. R.I.P. guys, I hope every generation makes it a point to keep your spirits alive as mine did.
Moe never forgot that Larry cut his own salary so that Curly would receive his own cut.
Shemp also took a 60% pay cut in order to re join the stooges and help out. Joe Darita,s sorry ass bad mouthed them every chance he got. What loser.
God bless them. Still love The Three Stooges❤❤❤ Mo was always my favorite 😊
nyuk nyuk nyuk. Curly loved boxers
Fun fact: shemp was considered the funniest of the stooges however curly was the most popular stooge also Larry’s wife didn’t like it wen moe would call him a weasel face porcupine.. also Larry was on his way to Europe for more violin lessons but WWll stopped his travels or else he probably wouldn’t of been a stooge and Larry deaths was the one that hurt moe the most
I remember in 1962 when the "Three Stooges in Orbit" movie came out and my brother ,sister and I went to see it, and the line went all the way around the large city block to get in the theater. That's when the stooges really started showing there age compared to seeing there reruns on black and white T.V.
“Moe’s Pie Aiming skills” was definitely *not* on my bingo card 😂
Thier still funny today - & not dirty clean fun, 🥰🥰🤩😛😛 jf.
Maybe learn how to spell correctly before posting your comment 🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡
They’re.
They were AWESOME
I did the math on what 7500 dollars was worth in todays dollars starting in 1935. 1000 dollars was worth $ 22,932 in todays dollars so they each made the equivalent of about $ 171,000 dollars today. That was what they were paid per short movie. were they getting screwed yes but they weren't starving either.
Moe the original Beatle look.😅 Curly was awesome.
"Favored casualties" ... hadn't heard that one before LOL
No mention of Joe Besser.
Not so haaaaaaaaaaaard...
I noticed that also. Perhaps not a stooge favorite, Joe certainly added to the stooge mayhem. WAY TO GO , JOE !!!!
@@FREDGARRISON I didn't like Joe Besser For me the real Three Stooges will always be Moe. Larry, Curly, and Shemp. I just thought it odd they didn't mention him.
@@keithallver2450 I know Joe Besser wasn't the best stooge, but after the death of Curly and Shemp, Cohen at Columbia told Moe he was paying for 3 stooges, not 2. So Moe had to do some quick thinking. Besser was already under contract at Columbia, so Moe took the easy way out to keep The Stooges alive.
@@FREDGARRISONJoe Besser is the Bester!😊
I refuse to consider Joe or Curly Joe as legitimate stooges and won't even discuss it.
Amen! Hate Besser and DeRita.
Of course years after Moe and Larry passed away, DeRita did nothing but talk down about the Stooges.
Agreed! YES!!
@@deidralong3780 👍👍
@@allan9603 The Three Stooges was a family business! And I consider Larry family.
I always called them my three advisors
