Beth Goodfellow, yes please. Her playing and groove are infectious. She compliments Madison’s finger style perfectly. Madison is also one of the most under rated guitar players too. Remember that’s she’s singing all these tricky melodies over her crazy finger style, simultaneously.
What sets this apart from so much other stuff coming out is the solid musicianship and songwriting. This isn't the ten millionth person strumming open chords and singing all over the place. Here we've got it all -- well-constructed melodies; real chord changes; and players who have the skill to play anything, and the sense to know exactly what's enough. Everyone is serving the tune.
Every time i get discouraged and think there's nothing new in the musical world, someone like you floats down from heaven and buoys me up and fills my heart and ears with wonderment... well done band ! Great song writing and performing... bravo, bravo... keep up the good work...
I knew that Beth Goodfellow was good but I didn't know she was this GOOD. Such a unique take on a unique song on the drums. Perfect lock in with this tune. This was a dynamics lesson for me. Thank you.
Real expressive, stand-out Drummer !!! Sutble, precise and swishy, greasy, down in the groove playing. Keep listening and you'll hear otherworldly drumming. Kudo's. A wonderful inspiration!
The 3 of them are great, but especially the drummer. One doesn't get that good without many hours of dedicated practice and attention. Crisp, subtle, musical, masterful.
She sure is! I don't know how she was brought up (on guitar). Self taught, I use chord inversions as the norm and until I read this comment didn't really thing anything of them. I am guessing for those who learn a traditional path, chord inversion may not be used as often.
Excellent band, each one of them - i especially enjoy to hear somebody actually playing their Jazzmasters instead of using them just for alternative posing. Nice and tasteful!
this is nice. her guitar tone is a work of art by itself. very few times you encounter this plus a voice so warm and focused. the trio serves lovingly those 3 songs. such musicianship
Just now during Hurricane Ian discovered these three-better than finding a million bucks in the street. All the comments rightfully laud the band, but here’s a nod to Paste: without your program I may have (god forbid) missed this fresh, luminous music.
A minute in and I'm pretty sure I'll continue to enjoy and respect this band. They seem exceptional and unique. Nice to see the drummer getting some credit in the comments too.....yeah she's great
What a stunning talent - the music is just so tasteful, authentic, heart music - so non-commercially aimed and unpretentious. She's that rare bird that deserves a fan base and success - because she / they are just that good!
Completely signature. Madison is a fantastic guitar player & marvelous songwriter! Hypnotic grooves! That drummer... dang. 😉 So good... 😉 💜 🍀 🎶 I hear a little, Joni Mitchell in there. What a breath of fresh air this young lady is. I'm so grateful to Paste Studio's ability to showcase so many fantastic artists. I just love, Madison Cunningham's UMM, EVERYTHING. SO GOOD INDEED! 💜 🍀 💜
I am SO late to this party--but very glad I've discovered her. I heard one track and stopped and bought all her recordings... there is a rich sophistication to what she does musically, all with that voice on top. What a talent, full stop.
MC is outstanding as usual, but an unexpected (to me anyway), treat of this set is the sublime drumming of Beth Goodfellow. So great to read all of the comments here that recognize her musicality. Looking forward to checking out more of Beth's work!
What a polished band. Singing is exquisite same goes for that 6 stringer and the superb rhythm base. A very pleasurable experience. Thanks to YT random targeting as I wasn't aware of this great band.
I clicked on the video cause I liked her guitar and was immediately floored! Touches of Jeff Buckley and Rufus Wainwright in her melodies. Beautiful minimalist instrumentation that is rhythmically and harmonically captivating and creating just the right backdrop for her voice. Loved it!
What a great band. Wonderful support for Madison's amazing songs and performance. The drummer is a standout; she has that Brian Blade thing going on. Great sense of what to play and when, nothing superfluous, masterful control over her tone. An ideal combination with Madison's wonderfully eccentric guitar playing.
I love her guitar, I love her Supro, I love her playing, I love her voice, I love how she sings .... I love her .... and the incredible drummer too ... :-) ... I'm suddenly so impressed b watching this video ... ♡☆
I believe I'm obsessed. Have been listening to Madi non-stop for days now after discovering her and I can't get enough. The second best thing to this woman's mesmerising talent is reading all the incredible comments.
Absolutely astonishing, I was lucky emough to see Madison in a very cold Birmingham early in 2022 and she blew me away, such talent. I agree with the other comments, the drummer is superb and both her and the bass player add a wonderfully sympathetic compliment to Madison's singing and playing.
Moi aussie. And thanks to an interview with Madison, checking out Juana Molina - the chain continues.. BTW, Madison has a nice tutorial on playing this tune - fun!
This performance of Something to Believe In is an absolute masterpiece. Madison makes it look effortless but maybe that is what make it all the more impressive. I'm just blown away by her talent. BRAVO!
Molly Tuttle sent me here...Supar cool. 17:00 love this little bit from all three of them....rest my heart right here. Thank you Paste - what a gem this is!
saw her live in new haven that night!! shes great and charismatic, and the drummer has an absolutely awesome presence. bummed she didnt win the grammy :/
this is my favorite recording of the Pin It Down so far... that room also... and Beth... she really makes the love with the drums... and the room... my dude knows that room is a beauty big up
The first 25 times I viewed, I just took it all in. Because Madison. But then I focused on Beth…(WOW) - now the next 25 views I will watch Daniel. What a glorious trio… thank you, Madison for all you do, all you put together, all the stellar artists you assemble, and the magic you collectively bring to us/the masses. (PS - lived blocks by Oxy in the 90’s - have walked down Eagle Rock Blvd waaay many-a-time back in the day…)
"Something to believe in" is such a beautiful song. Works wonderfully as a solo ballad, but just imagine piano and full studio orchestra...get it done Maddy!
This groove is so on point on the first song, Joey Landreth vibes. Madison plays beatiful guitar parts to accompany herself. And the drummer is unbelievable! So damn good!! It seems she is in Open D tuning... Which I love!
Magnificent drumming and together with beautiful guitar/vocals and edgy bass it all makes a superb sound. Please include - always - names of all players in the video description. Thanks for introducing them in the video itself.
Not usually a singer/songwriter kinda guy, but Madison really has something here. Great songs, the musicianship is on point, great interplay. Only three instruments played intimately, but nothing feels 'missing'.
Such a unique and lovely talent. The 3 of them are so extraordinarily musical. Great production by Paste. Sounds fab. Thanks for producing and posting.
That drummer is amazing. Probably the most tasteful drumming I’ve ever heard.
The drummer is killer. Great chops. So creative and precise. Nothing out of place.
Great playing. But then Madison and the bass player are no slouches, either!
Yea, Madison should use her all the time bc she is the ideal drummer for her music. I'm blown away. Who is she?
Just sleazing her way through the the entire groove. Mmmm love it.
Sure she is. But that's what happens when you're fully dedicated to the music you play, and not playing what the others are used to! ;-)
@@sylvainswift3234 by sleazy i mean absolutely appropriate. A very good thing.
Nice to see a drummer being more than a time keeper: buzzes on the snare, off beats, ghost notes etc.
Right on. Her drumming is sublime.
YES
You took the words right out of my mouth! Fantastic drummer! Heck! FANTASTIC EVERYTHING! 😉 💜 🍀 🎶
Spot on. Very "academic" playing, I love that.
welcome to drummers in any genre but rock
The fact that she both sings and plays like that simultaneously ... !
Leaves contemporary pop artists in the dust.
Beth Goodfellow, yes please. Her playing and groove are infectious. She compliments Madison’s finger style perfectly. Madison is also one of the most under rated guitar players too. Remember that’s she’s singing all these tricky melodies over her crazy finger style, simultaneously.
We're in the golden age of three piece bands playing live music. hell ya.
I can't remember ever seeing 3 people, play 3 unique songs so effortlessly and so well. Alot of talent in that little room.
Everyone is serving the tune.
yup- agree. talented.
You've described why I like the music that I do
Every time i get discouraged and think there's nothing new in the musical world, someone like you floats down from heaven and buoys me up and fills my heart and ears with wonderment... well done band ! Great song writing and performing... bravo, bravo... keep up the good work...
Beth Goodfellow. Incredible drumming and she looks so freakin' cool doing it!
100% fuck I need to practice
The way she was swinging those sticks in that last song was pure pleasure.
Shiver me timbers! I can't pin it - this version - is literally one of the greatest songs ever. What a miracle
Good grief!!!!
Her playing and singing are both flawless, but on top of that, it's brain-splittingly simultaneous. Holy moly!
Futuristic Joni Mitchell. And, as others have said - a magical drummer! How could you ask for more?
And some Sheryl crow vocally in there , wish those two would collaborate!
her chord voicings man!!
This is absolutely mind-blowing. The songwriting, the musicianship, the simplicity - all of it is just pure class.
The kind of music that makes others want to write beautiful music. Or at least me.
youre not alone ...
Like a big blast of creative steroids!!!
Damn, that was amazing. Her touch on the guitar is so delicate it's hard to even work out what she is playing. Talented young lady and great band.
The 3 of them are great, but especially the drummer. One doesn't get that good without many hours of dedicated practice and attention. Crisp, subtle, musical, masterful.
SHE NEEDS TO HAVE TINY DESK CONCERT
EXACTLY
And they need to have her.
This is so much better!
Right???
she made it fellas. it'll be on youtube in august
Great song! And the Drummer is eatin' it up! Wow!
This is soooo smart! This lady is a rare lyricist and musician!
Damn that drummer is good
this is how music should be imo, so practiced and comfortable that everyone hears the life you breathe into the music
I mean seriously, she's one of the best drummers I've ever heard. Steve Gadd-caliber control and feel.
I am always astonished at her dominance of chord inversions. Both a fantastic singer and guitar player!
She sure is! I don't know how she was brought up (on guitar). Self taught, I use chord inversions as the norm and until I read this comment didn't really thing anything of them. I am guessing for those who learn a traditional path, chord inversion may not be used as often.
She is tremendously inspiring. Listening to her and this trio is like standing before a revelation.
It so reminds me of how I felt, the first time I heard Joni.
You go, Madison.. You're one-of-a-kind..heading to the top.
Excellent band, each one of them - i especially enjoy to hear somebody actually playing their Jazzmasters instead of using them just for alternative posing. Nice and tasteful!
she's absolutely incredible
That tremolo though. It added a really nice texture to the sound. Such an authentic artist. I’m a fan.
this is nice. her guitar tone is a work of art by itself. very few times you encounter this plus a voice so warm and focused. the trio serves lovingly those 3 songs. such musicianship
Beautiful singing and playing, Madison.
Just now during Hurricane Ian discovered these three-better than finding a million bucks in the street. All the comments rightfully laud the band, but here’s a nod to Paste: without your program I may have (god forbid) missed this fresh, luminous music.
Pin it Down, the guitar work! Owww! Love the groove, love the drums and bass too! What a great band, so tight! 🌠🌠🌠🌠🌠🌠🌠🌠🌠🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
If this isn’t perfection, I have no idea what is.
Madison is amazing. Definitely my favorite new artist
I saw the college street music hall performance that night. Looooooved it. Sheltered? She’s still so young. Beautiful stuff. The young inform the old.
A minute in and I'm pretty sure I'll continue to enjoy and respect this band. They seem exceptional and unique. Nice to see the drummer getting some credit in the comments too.....yeah she's great
This drummer is KILLER. Madison is my favorite artist rn.
What a sound!! Man, the drummer. She's off the chart. great band.
I love her style and voice.
What a stunning talent - the music is just so tasteful, authentic, heart music - so non-commercially aimed and unpretentious. She's that rare bird that deserves a fan base and success - because she / they are just that good!
Love the part about face to face chemistry....I am an instant fan. Love this. This gives me hope in the new modern music era....
Completely signature. Madison is a fantastic guitar player & marvelous songwriter! Hypnotic grooves! That drummer... dang. 😉 So good... 😉 💜 🍀 🎶 I hear a little, Joni Mitchell in there. I’ve been playing for 40 years, Maddison you just inspired me. God bless you’re journey
Great trio, each one individually and together, with solid musicianship and beautiful vocals.
I am SO late to this party--but very glad I've discovered her. I heard one track and stopped and bought all her recordings... there is a rich sophistication to what she does musically, all with that voice on top. What a talent, full stop.

What a GREAT band! Awesome melodies, musicianship and this killer phrasing. Thumbs up.
ok damn. Finally a current artist who makes actual music. This is heavenly. Thank you
What a surprising trio. I'm happier now that I have listened to this! Truly amazing and genuine talent.
Wow, she is a super talented player.... that drummer is crazy good too. So tasteful!!
Holy shit I didn’t know Madison had such a freaking skilled drummer, her finesse is insane
I clicked on the video cause I liked her guitar and was immediately floored! Touches of Jeff Buckley and Rufus Wainwright in her melodies. Beautiful minimalist instrumentation that is rhythmically and harmonically captivating and creating just the right backdrop for her voice. Loved it!
That drummers a goddess. Astonishingly good.
Fully agree. The Brian Blade comparison is spot on!!
Yeah the drummer is the standout honestly
WOW she is just outstanding! I love her voice and his guitar skills
Great feel from the drummer :-))))
That was fucking incredible. What a beautiful beautiful band and what beautiful beautiful songs.
Gorgeous- crisp, clean completely innovative, yet with a delicious simplicity. Rare.
Eclectic groovy melodic totally mesmerizing

This drummer is sick! Spot on.
Love Madison’s work, phenomenal. And from her I’ve met my new favorite drummer. Wow Beth Goodfellow!
Oh my God, I love this music. Her vocals just glide and glow over all the chord changes and riffs. That’s a real skill very commendable.
The woman is a phenomenal talent she's so good reinventing the Laurel canyon sound! Madison is fantastic!
Gordon and Tom sent me, them don't lie.
Haha me too. Not disappointed.
+1
And another, glad I followed that lead.
Me too
Moi aussie. And thanks to an interview with Madison, checking out Juana Molina - the chain continues.. BTW, Madison has a nice tutorial on playing this tune - fun!
Her voice is absolutely insane. I love this. And the ending of that first song >>>
This performance of Something to Believe In is an absolute masterpiece. Madison makes it look effortless but maybe that is what make it all the more impressive. I'm just blown away by her talent. BRAVO!
Your drum miking and compression is stellar!! Incredible artists all around.

Right on. A little Norah Jones soul.

I LOVE this drummer
Hooked from the moment she starts playing. Such groove.

All three of them are spectacular. What room full of talent.
Every single musician here is amazing.
My god, those chords, what a freakin guitar player! And the damn drummer is great, man would love to see this trio in concert -- is that possible??
Love the approach the bass player is taking here.
Magnificent drumming and together with beautiful guitar/vocals and edgy bass it all makes a superb sound. Please include - always - names of all players in the video description. Thanks for introducing them in the video itself.
First time listener…. I AM IN LOVE & INSPIREDDD ⚡️

man, i love this set and this format. its sad that they no longer using it.
WOW! Amazing talent. And what a backup band - loved the rhythm section!
The Queen of Dissonance.
Not usually a singer/songwriter kinda guy, but Madison really has something here. Great songs, the musicianship is on point, great interplay. Only three instruments played intimately, but nothing feels 'missing'.
Amazing!!! Love you guys. Love your drummer, love your bass player. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
