- We love Madison Cunningham 😊 and this tiny hidden chapel ⛪️ in Central London was the perfect setting for this. Madison was in London for a short trip to perform at the Barbican, and the following morning we all got together. Madison won the Grammy for the Best Folk Album this year and it's so well deserved ✨

What guitar did she use in this?
Why ?
she is one of the truest stars we have with us these days
Agreed!
She is slightly above average.. listen to Lissie she is better
Agree!!!!!!!
@@JustinLewis7326Are you joking? 😂😂
No, Lissie blows her out of the water@@lukelarsson
Everything she does sounds effortless and natural
Amen ❤️
I hear hints of Joni in her tone and phrasing of her vocals - beautiful singing.
Great guitar player and her songwriting might be her biggest strength.
The real deal. One of the best new artists I’ve heard in ages!
Absolutely a different class, the writing, lyrics, melodies, playing, singing. Unreal. Gives me goosebumps every time and it’s almost as if she’s not even breaking a sweat. Beautiful
the best guitar work I have seen in decades
Pretty much every time I hear this woman sing it has a 50/50 shot of making me cry a bit. She's incredible.
Masterfully played and she sings with such control of her voice. The acoustics are really nice, not to mention the architecture is stunning. She is such a skilled guitar player, watching her just own the fretboard gives me goosebumps. Great work!
Obsessed with all the note changes and tiny variations she does for each performance of all her songs. Revealer was my top album last year and I wouldn't be surprised if the deluxe is my top album this year. I could seriously go on and on - she is just that incredible.
Also shoutout to the mixing engineer. SO incredible, it is straight magic. Gorgeous cinematography too. All around amazing!
[Lyrics]
In a fifteen passenger van to Ohio
The Chrysler invention hums and blows
Warm air through the vents sends it straight to the bone
Outside it's nine below
It's a pain I've never known
I lost my heart to the great golden state
And the lanterns in little Tokyo
If the fumes don't kill you first, then the dreaming surely will
You tell me on the phone
It's a pain you've never known
I look out the window and let my mind wander
From order to the open sky
And sometimes I swear I'll just never return
But it's all I've ever known
It's all I've ever known
Will you take me as I am?
In perfect obedience to all these demands
I'm a child to the wonder but a victim of the change
When I see you again, will I know what to say?
I'm not immune to a piece of bad news
I just do what I must to move on
Give me truth but put me under so I don't feel a thing
It's the only way I know
It's the only way I know
I hear nothing, no rescue coming
Just church bells drawing out the dogs
I'm afraid that you were made by invention and odds are
I may never know
I may never know
Will you take me as I came?
In this resistance to the sound of my name
I'm a daughter to the mystery but a servant to strain
When I see you again, will I know what to say?
Will I know what to say?
Will I know what to say?
You're all I've ever known
You're all I've ever known
You're the only thing that I know
And I'm afraid of what I don't, don't know
You're all I've ever known
You're all I've ever known
The lyrics, the tone/vocal range, the guitar skills and it’s effortless man - the real deal
I hope you reach a higher level of ears to listen to this. It's truly brilliant
That's what you call an artistic tour de force. Highest level interplay between singing and playing. Musically complex and eminently singalongable too! Beautiful and (seemingly) effortless. She's way out there! Thank you Madison 💫
2:23, I mean c'mon, what even is that 🔥. The guitar playing is on another level, AND she's singing over it too!
❤❤
I come to this version so very often, it's like a daydream
Simply beautiful 😊❤️🌹voice, tune, and chapel.
I have gr8 respect and love for you! I find you a beautifully empathetic, creative, talented, subtly brilliant and brave woman. Honored to have you in my awareness. Thanks for sharing this, Madison.✌️💗💐💡
I'm just overwhelmed by this performance, and I've heard this song in several performances, but this one is the best.
In the very best way Maddison is channeling Jeff Buckley in this, which is the highest of bars, and she makes it all her own, just sublime
Truely the most talented Singer/Songwriter/Musician on the planet. Too bad that shes so much better then everyone else currently making music that they cant promote her. Nobody is apparently allowed to make better music then taylor swift 😂 I mean, come on, listen to Hospital. Nobody has made a song that good in 15 years. Absolute perfection, I love your music Madison!!!
This sounds just magical!
And it's like she's riffing with herself, discovering her own song afresh with every playing. Wow, what a true musical adventuress Madison Cunningham is! I'm hearing something new each time I listen....
Madison always does new and interesting things in her live performances. Sometimes that's frustrating because I wish these versions were also on the records!
thank god for madison!! no one deserved the grammy more than her
Totally agree!
She is just amazing…. That’s all I can say.
Yes!!! And that's why Mahogany is the best ❤️ Madison beautiful as always x
Yes Luara!! ❤️❤️❤️
Ah, one of the glorious newer artists that doesn't just grind on the same tired/predictable 1/4/5/6 chord patterns with repetitious 3-note melodies. I absolutely love the exploratory rhythms, long flowing melodic lines, and pleasantly unexpected chord progressions and mood changes throughout. It takes you on a journey. Bravo!
She just stays on the 1 - how more repetitious can you get ? No talent and only one chord - exploratory ?
This should have millions of views. This performance is flawless.
First saw her at MSG opening for Harry Styles on Halloween. Just transported us-- made that huge stadium feel as intimate as this little chapel. She'll be back there as the headliner.
She is a complete badass!
A major talent in so many ways. Love the cyclic guitar pattern percolating underneath that soaring vocal melody.
one word, SHEESH.
One of the coolest sounding guitars I ever heard, and incredible playing and singing and writing, ur lowkey a genius to create such a song
Shes just so good
We’re obsessed! ❤️
Talent beyond measure, voice beyond reason, lyrics beyond a poet, musicianship beyond the norm. Baffles me how she is not done sort of queen.
got to see her last year at a small venue in Paris, honestly one of my best concerts ever. I was on an emotional high for the next 2 days. This video brings back those good memories, thank you so much for organizing and capturing this performance!
Wow, super cool guitar technique. Great voice. Thanks Mahogany for sharing
This album won the Grammy for Best Folk Album and can definitely see why ❤️
@@MahoganySessions I didn’t know that. I’ll have to check out the album. I’m never in the know on that stuff. I find a lot of new artists through you though and I appreciate it
Been killing it with the guests lately
She is such an insane talent! Thanks for the comment bud ❤️❤️
Absolutely exquisite. A generational talent.
😭❤
Why doesn't this exist on Spotify or for purchase!?! It's fantastic.
She tunes her guitars down two whole tones - i.e. her low E string is a C, the A is an F, etc. It’s an essential part of her sound.
The new Joni Mitchell....we needed this. She is such a breath of fresh air in an age of programed pop.
Spectacular! Just a beautiful song and beautifully done! Madison is just amazing!
Beautiful talent and great acoustics, just perfect 🤗
The chapel was peeeerfect
This may be the most amazing post-post modern piece I’ve ever seen
Let's don't forget to celebrate the fact that the sound engineer is bigger magician than Harry Potter! 🔥🤝❤️
We aim to please 😊🎙️
I keep repeat playing this song, Pin it Down live, her cover of Hold On and Life According to Rachel -- just an amazing talent!❤
Wow! First time hearing her. And what a song and video for the first time!!
This song is just wow. And the performance is wower.
Smooth flow of lyrics is magical
Your voice never sounded better than this, Madison. Just chills throughout.
effortlessly brilliant.
Absolutely love this performance so much such vocal mastery:-) with world class Guitar accompaniment bravo Madison 💕
Wow, first time hearing about her. Thank you Mahogany!
Her plucking with a plectrum produces an amazing amount of colour.
Yes. Also I rarely like a pick-up & amplifier (as opposed to a real microphone), but there is a nice thickness to the guitar tone here. It’s also possible that some of natural acoustics of the church that are also adding into the mix. Just when I thought there was no more hope in song, I discovered Madison!
The intro in this version sounds so much like Jeff Buckley’s Black Beauty. And I’m loving it.
An interesting comparison -- the more I listen the more I agree there's a similar vibe/passion/style here as Jeff Buckley, and I am here for it.
She's a queen.
❤
Beautiful!
Glad you like it Dan! ❤️
Puts most modern artists in the dust.
Madison, Such fine form. You get better and better.
Incredible performance. Beautiful cinematography. Who was the recording/mixing engineer for this ? Sounds incredible
Out of this world
I've known this young lady since she was 12 years old .
Beautiful performance. The natural reverberation of the room made for some extra delicious sounds.
good lord.. this is incredible
So fresh, so interesting, so beautiful! Thank you Madison!
Could care less about people who are already famous like Ed but I love this song.

😁 yes Judah!
Unica e inimitabile!
Bravo! Why did it take so long for the algorithm to deliver this. Love all her stuff!
Great Voice!
Stunning 🤩
The nuance and delicacy. Geniale!
Major Jeff Buckley vibes in this performance.
goosebumps
This is really special. Artistic masterpiece and hell of a performance. Saw you live in Oslo and you captured me after your first chord. "Child of the wonder but a victim of the change"..... Though Im sure this will get millions of views later on ;) Btw, playing and singing this is exactly as hard as it looks, but Im getting closer every day now, thank you for tonns of inspiration😊
Perfect!
My latest discoveries for Beach House and Wyes Blood. And just as my well was growing dry I found Madison Cunningham.
