    The end there - Mikael is like a child in his delight. Glad S Wilson worked on their stuff. Damnation is a masterpiece.

    Fuck yeah that Mellotron part on "To Rid The Disease" is the sort of thing that makes it worth having an instrumental / outtakes version of the record.

  • @magusking9215
    @magusking9215 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    When Mike said he thought it would be the end of the band right there.
    I felt that this time. ( Seen this video before )
    And we just might never have had Damnation/Deliverance, Ghost Reveries and all the subsequent albums.
    Opeth was broke up until these two albums, so they probably put all their money into this ambitious
    Double Album project, just to be served a shit sandwich by the studio - that shit would get any musician really fucking depressed. I'm glad they overcame it and were able to deliver that double album...
    Also the fact that Mike is the main songwriter means that the band would need a buffer time for rehearsals between when Mike completes the writing and the time when they enter the studio - By then a lot of songwriters already want to move to the next batch of new songs - LOL.
    Also you're supposed to pay the band for rehearsals which most of the time isn't the case. Especially in those years and in that scene. Now nobody at labels want to put money into that for up and coming bands.
    That's why we're seeing the rise of "Bedroom bands"

    • @Salomon_G
      @Salomon_G 6 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      Swedish melodic death metal genre. I never liked that style. I definitely don't see Morningrise as their masterpiece. Doing guitar harmonies way too much becomes annoying. I think Black Rose Immortal is overrated as hell too. People overhype it because it's 20+ mins. Most of their shit after Morningrise drops massive turds all over it. Way better songwriting. I didn't care for Orchid much either. My Arms Your Hearse is where the party starts.

      Yeah. In sweden we had a movement in the 70s in which a lot of Swedish musicians expressed their political views trough music and theatre(I believe it was almost exclusively leftists who partook in this). This movement was called “progg” and is not really related to the prog most people are familiar with. The studio, Nacksving was, back in the day a studio for left-wing musicians
