Father and Daughter reunited on The Today Show thanks to MyHeritage DNA

- Sarah, from Fort Wayne, Indiana (now living in the Netherlands) was placed in adoptive care as a young child by her mother. To try and find her biological family, she took a MyHeritage DNA test that her husband purchased for her. She was shocked when she got a match to her biological father, Arland, who didn't even know she existed.
Sarah and Arland then spoke on the phone numerous times, but today was the first time they met.
Watch their emotional reunion.
I'm 73 and just took the DNA , I was never adopted and looking for some kind of closure . Praying that God will bless my last wish .

Have you done any research? Taken a DNA test? Called the hospital at which you were born? Looked at your birth certificate? Asked your siblings about any comments they might have heard from anyone about your father? Someone in your mother’s generation had to have known. If not, one of their children might have been told by one of their parents, etc. Sometimes a DNA private investigator can help speed things up. Just some ideas! Praying you discover what you seek. 🙏🏼

Her father has southern manners and charm. So wonderful he welcomed her. They have the same beautiful eyes, nose and lips.
My daughter met her biological father yesterday. She picked him up at the airport in Ok. I encouraged her to find her birth family for many reasons one being I am not threatened by her being enriched by others. Those kids are gorgeous!!!!

My last name is dillon spell the same mom side , dont know where it comes from ? Well i know it comes from my Gp side of the family and i dont know my india gm side of the family or my dad side or the family were probably 2.4 percent related

I was contacted by my 34 yearold daughter in 2014, I had never had children. Until it happens one cannot understand the extreme feelings and millions of thoughts flying through your mind. It took me 3-4 months to calm my emotions. I write and record music and immediately wrote and recorded a song about it. It's the way I have to express my deepest feelings and pressure relief. "Nancy" is the title.
I found my father after 37 years, two days ago and we've been talking and he said that he loves me which is crazy but I haven't seen him so far, he lives in south America but my finances are not the best so I have to wait to meet him, I am anxious thou, lol.

This is so much like my own story of finding my birth family !! Except I'm 61 and found my birth Father last year ! He just turned 87 ! Unfortunately my Birth Mother has passed, but I am blessed to be a part of a huge family in her side. My Grandmother was one of 15... So you do the math on 1st and second cousins !! Lol ! I also have 8 half siblings between Mother and Father's side's. Now the hole in my heart is full and over flowing !! Constant visits and calls now !! Bless you all !!

When they tracked down my birth father, he’d passed away. I’ll never meet either of my birth parents. The birth mother didn’t want to meet and now I e learned, several years after she had the opportunity, that she is gone too.
What’s amazing is that they have the rapport of family who have known each other forever, yet they just met in person. The power of kinship.

As an adopted adult, I really appreciate the kind comments! So often adoptees are shamed and told we are ungrateful for seeking out one's biological family. It's very painful to be told how selfish and awful it is to try and find them because it is seen as being ungrateful to the adopted parents. Like, "she already has parents" or "something is wrong with her" etc. I've seen plenty of those comments. Everyone is so supportive and kind and it is really heartwarming.
i like how the dad looks dapper in the suit but the moment he talked I immediately imagined a cowboy hat on him lmao and then he said he was living in Texas!
What a beautiful family! I have found two of my siblings who were placed for adoption at birth and I am still looking for the other 3. I didn't know they existed until last Summer.

I love these successful adoption stories. I was adopted and always knew. My parents promised me if I ever wanted to find my birth parents they would help but I never wanted to. I did, however, meet my biological brother when we were in our teens.
Well...I'll admit to bursting into tears as the details unfolded into such a beautifully loving story...My only child was adopted from overseas (twenty-six years ago) when he was a young toddler, & these "reunion" shows touch my heart in a VERY special way...I can only imagine how Sarah & Arland felt when they realized how much they resemble one another...The "icing on the already delicious cake"... Such a sweet reunion...
I was ecstatic for this union. Father and daughter look exactly alike. He couldn't deny her if he wanted too!
I can relate. Found my dad in my later 20s. This was before DNA testing but I used phone books and reverse directories to locate neighbors of my dad. Took very little time once I got started. Met him in one day (he was pretty local). I do still get mad that I was cheated out of time with him and my siblings. But all parents and step-parents are now deceased and I am accumulating cousins from DNA testing including from a grandparent line that had also been an out of wedlock event.

I,m totally in tears watching father and his daughter reunite after 41 years and so very happy for them ,,I wish I could find my own daughter as it's been 47 years ago that she was adopted ,so God bless you and others who are able to find their families some times it happens a reuniting good.

This is incredible! For having had zero connection to his family, she is her father's daughter to a T. I was just thinking how jolly and humorous she is, unlike most tv guests, when the man comes out with exactly the same manner. And to think even her mother could not have helped her find him because she clearly thought or wanted others to believe the father was another guy. Very entertaining. I hope they are doing well.
I hope I don't jinx things but.....this is the first video I've seen on TH-cam that has no negative comments. There is a God!! My brother & I were very fortunate that our parents were married nearly 50 years, until death did part them. I fear we may be among the last children raised in the US to be so fortunate. If you are dealing with a situation that's anything like the subject of the above video I wish you the very best of luck with your efforts to sort things out. I pray you find what you seek & I ask you to share with as many as you find comfortable the negative things you have to deal with. Hopefully people will get it through their heads that every decision we make has a consequence. Sometimes those consequences are forced onto someone who had nothing to do with the decision.

I am 73 and didn’t meet my dad until I was 21. I cannot tell you the hole that it filled. The icing on the cake was the family that I inherited. 2 younger brothers and 2 younger sisters, my paternal grandmother and a wonderful stepmother. I grew up with 5 sisters and I am the oldest of all.
I met my 3 full brothers and father a couple years ago. Im the oldest of 4. Life changing

Wow lovely reunion. This turned out to be a new chapter in both their lives. I am adopted and would love to know my life story, but I am so happy to of had the parents I had, I would not want to go any further in finding anyone. Even my my lovely father died 31 years ago.

I'm really happy for her! I lived 18 years without having a single clue on who my father was, nobody knew him. After a lot of stalking/researching on Ancestry and Facebook I finally found him! Unfortunately I won't ever meet him because he died a month after I was born so my lifelong wish for it won't ever come true. However, I am still very thankful that my curiosity of who he is has been fulfilled at such a young age.
To everyone out there who is searching for their fathers, I pray for you and wish you the best of luck. It is possible and there is hope. For those whose situation with their dad ended up being like to mine, you're not along and I know your pain. I felt it and I still mourn over it from time to time. You are strong though and I promise that you'll make it through.

I will never know who my father was, not on my BC. I am so happy for u and your dad. I did meet one sister and a brother, another brother I haven't met. My bio mother died when she 45 so will never know her. Not close to my siblings but we talk occasionally.
Carol dna can find him. I was adopted. I found my birth mother and she had no idea who he was. Through dna and some second cousin matches I was able to find him. I now find others families free of charge its called being and adoption search angel. I suggest doing ancestrydna and find a group on facebook called dna detectives. I belong to the group and we all help each other.

It’s unforgivable when a father isn’t notified about a pregnancy. On a positive note, at least there’s a better chance of building a loving relationship if they find each other. There was no abandonment and he didn’t run from responsibility.

something similar to this happened recently to my brother and I, so our mom was adopted the father was deemed unkown, the mother was supposedly some college student in San Diego, around 1975, and my brother recently got a dna test done last christmas and only now recently. We finally found our suppose blood relatives but we've never met yet

I was adopted at birth and found my biological family about 2 years ago when I was 60. I have a sister and two brothers. My bio mom is in a hospital and not well. My bio dad passed in the early 90's and have also lost 2 bio sisters and a bio brother. Of course, my real parents are the ones who raised me, and I have a sister that I love dearly....but don't tell her that! I wish Sarah and Arland the best!
Some times reunions like this can go so horribly for the children. It is a bright spot in a tough world that this one turned out beautifully.
