I was the first player you played. Very exciting to realize halfway through you blowing up my O-Ring mid-cast that you were Shieldmaiden. The following 15 minutes were far less fun though :-D GGs
A card that I really like in Roots is Thornvault Forager. Its a mana dork that can exile cards from your graveyard, but it has the added benefit of tutoring for squirrels. Makes finding a 1 off Osteomancer easy and I also play a Curious Forager to get back a cauldron. A thornvault under cauldron is amazing too.
I really love that we get bonus representation with Insidious Fungus + Drag to the Roots. Also always really want Lively Dirge to work out in one of these decks though it never quite seems to get there. Being able to tutor and or reanimate important targets like Thrillseeker or Osteomancer seems really valuable (plus a potential wat to double trigger Roots)
Osteomancer from Bloomburrow has been a pretty strong addition to the deck for me, coming in off Tyvar with haste it can let things get out of control real quick as long as you can keep the mill coming
@@Ashlizzlle makes sense to try new things. I just like the turn four solitaire combo. I've also abandoned the cauldron in my deck and use imodanes recruiter to swing lethal.
Ash, you forgot the sage advice Kibler gave you awhile back, Bristlebud Farmer is great in everything….but ESPECIALLY Roots! Because he both mills, returns something to trigger it, AND is a Plant himself thus gaining free counters as well on a big Trample body! 🤘😎🤘😉😁🤷♂️🔥❤️🔥🎉🎯 The new Defiled Crypt/Cadaver Lap room card that creates 2/2 black Horror tokens for any card leaving your Graveyard has been fantastic in my testing too…plus essentially doubles your chances of having at least one of them in play off jump. 😁🤷♂️
@@Ashlizzlle hehe for sure!! As a fellow long haired OG Player, I've trusted his play advice for decades. 😁🤷😉 Plus that fat stack of them he bought is hella proof of how deep he was willing to bet early on, and now have 10-20x on his investment easy. Plus I've been having fun running them together since first they dropped together, and it truly goes HARD very quickly and closes games well. Historic versions even more so, adding in power boosts like Hardened Scales, Doubling Season, Victimize, etc... I've been working on trying to make a good Caretaker's Talent mashup deck to additionally fuel more card draw plus late game closeouts. Maybe with Builder's Talent around as well, to always get back milled copies of Roots or other handy pieces. Sheltered By Ghosts comes in then as a better removal piece, plus lots of life gain potentially to offset early aggro hits. 😁🤷 As well as cheap return to play effects to trigger Roots instead of needing alternate ways. Perhaps you'll come up with a more consistent build mashup if you like the idea too 😁❤️🔥🫂🙏🤞🤷
Two cards I would look into if you go heavier into Delirium are Urborg Repossession (life gain, recursion for creatures AND roots if milled) and Hollow Marauder (gy makes it cheap to cast and you take their removal) Love the roots decks but they always feel like they need a secondary win condition
Urgent Necropsy can be great removal in some matchups because it can hit many permanents at once and there's a lot of tokens of different types lying around to remove for free. Think of it as a mini casualties of war that also lets you exile any number of creatures in your graveyard at instant speed. That said, I wouldn't run more than two copies. 4 mana is a lot if you only remove a single thing and it requires setup. It's extremely brutal against some decks that easily give you several cheap targets, so it will probably do well as a sideboard card. Edit: i just saw one in the sideboard. 😅
I really like this deck, switched out 2x keen-eye because I don't have them for 1x tyvar the pumm and 1x faerie Mac. I want to fit in a case of the stashed skelly. Just my thoughts
Moss wood dread night and the new slasher card that halves your life when you take damage with it. When they die they auto leave you graveyard yard. The slasher goes on the battle field and the moss wood come back to your hand if you play it your next turn. Both trigger the roots.
There might be an argument for this deck to run Demonic Counsel if you're going to self mill and get delirium anyway, since the entire strat revolves around roots. Just a thought! Great games as always :)
For me in green black i have been relly inpressed with The Swarmweaver. Etb you get two flying insect, if they remove the unit thats fine you still have two fliers left, if they dont that is 4 damage in the air. If you need to be on the block that is 2 deathtouch fliers that sucks to attack into.
Dunno from Duskmourm - I haven't really updated my Rootingtooting Deck for that did toss in the overlord.. But I think you're missing Old Rutstein.. Two of those a roots and a Tyvar is infinte - and Rutstein seems really reliable, ramp, recursion, synergy with roots.. I don't feel Tyvar being that important - I'we been playing with one then cutting him when he seems t kind f not meet the expectations.. Maybe should try again with 2 rutsteing 2 tyvars or something like that.. I also use one Bristly Bill - he's a plant and his activated ability can make the plant tokens quite large and he's never really a miss - a solid two drop if nothing else.. I also use some 4 drops - the Bud Farmers and Chupacabra Echoes and Lively Dirges to get whatever creature I might need -kind of a peudotutor and trigger the roots. Probably going to update my roots deck after the Arena Open.. Taking some tips from this. Thanks. I wonder if the landcyclers from Duskmurn might be worth it. They're not 1 mana to cycle like the LotR ones and they're not dinosaurs so no recursion with Palontologists (oh yeah - those are nice too) but they have some upsides. But i might cut the paleontoligist - make the deck leaner and meaner with the extra surveil critters from Duskmourn maybe cut some of the 4 drops.
There's quite a few creatures that you could recast from your graveyard. And I feel like these are pretty strong in a rootst deck. You basically get double value for casting the creature from your radio
I need to test this deck right now ! Awesome video, thank you ! By the way, can someone explain why you can Voldaren Thrillseeker's capability with Keen-Eyed Curator (at 45:54) ? I didn't see it exiled by Agatha's Cauldron 🤔
Voldaren Thrillseeker has Backup 2 (When this creature enters, put two +1/+1 counters on target creature. If that’s another creature, it gains the following ability until end of turn.)
@@LayYaOut3one of the cool things about Urgent Necropsy is that if there's both artifact creatures and enchantment creatures you get to potentially kill 3 creatures for 4 mana. A lot of those are cheap or tokens too. Mites, incubators, glimmers, vehicles...
Maveric into roots into tyvar. the dream.. maybe it's time for me to try this at the store. Say It's Name might fix plenty issues the deck had. Roots been fun in Pioneer, but it's time to swap Pioneer and Standard decks around.
Did you try Honest Rutstein in deck it can make nice combo when he go in play he return a creture to your hand from a grave you can return another Rutstein and play imidietly you sacrafice first one trigger the roots and you can bring back sacrafice Rutstein again even if enemy will kill this one you can go every turn bringin him back and when you have him on board he make creatures cost one colorless mana less
Coati scavenger is a good way to get back roots from the grave if you accidently mill it. Cankerbloom is a better body with activation cost of 1 instead of 2. I can see the draw being good on the insidious fungus. You don't have to draw when you can proliferate your Tyvar and plants for 1. Gorehound is probably better then the faerie. Fills the grave yard which IMO isbetter then paying 3 for a draw 1.
Slow, doesn’t work Tyvar, doesn’t have activated abilities for Tyvar or cauldron, rustein’s ability of reducing costs for creatures is often irrelevant, but idk. I’m about to play him in my roots deck again.
No, Voldaren Thrillseeker can be exiled with Soul Cauldron, you then have the option of throwing all your probably large plant tokens at their face for the win.
I've been playing Unstoppable Slasher in my roots list Edit: I've been trying to fit Defiled Crypt // Cadaver Lab into the build but it hasn't been good...

I also run a bit of red in my deck. The new land Blazemire Verge has no real drawbacks in this deck as if you do not have a swamp, it comes down as a black land anyway. I could see Fear Of Missing out on being good with Twitching Spider so you can get more mana and nest tokens. Blood Splatter Analysis for removal, milling, and return from graveyard is great if you are going red.
