- All kids movies have hidden laughs for adults that left us puzzled as kids. However, once we grew up and gave those movies a rewatch, we sometimes couldn't help but laugh at the references we missed!
With it now officially being the holiday season, most of us are ready to re-watch a few holiday classics, one of those being Jim Carrey’s ‘How The Grinch Stole Christmas’! Here are some things you didn't notice in ‘How The Grinch Stole Christmas’ until you were older!

I knew putting keys in a bowl meant no one would get their keys unless they were sober to drive. It never had that connotation for me.

I agree with this. Ther is no scene showing the Who's retrieving the keys and going home with someone.

You have a point, it's definitely possible that the Grinch probably only took as much as his mouth could hold, or what ever was left in the bottle, or only took as much as he thought he needed to torch the tree, whatever came 1st.

When the Grinch was a kid it shows that martha had a crush on him. & Was flirting a little.
When I was a kid I thought they were collecting the keys so no one would drink and drive 😅
How about why Martha May has a regular nose and all the other adults have who noses?
I didn't even notice this but I was barely 3 years olds at the time and 20 years later I still didn't notice
How anyone missed the key party in this Ron Howard movie is beyond me.
When I 1st saw this when it came out, I thought everybody at that party was having an All-U-Can-Drink Free 4 All 🍾
And everybody was giving up their keys because Nobody intended 2 leave until morning 🔑😵🌄

Hated the scene where the mayor decided the winner of the lighting contest. He said Martha May when in fact the true winner was Cindy Lou Who's mom.
Yeah, I disliked that as well. I was like, dang, she's won EVERY year. She can afford to lose once or twice. Also, it still didn't make her like the mayor any bit more.
As someone who's been unable to hail a cab before I disagree that was hilarious
I thought the joke was when he said, "It's because I'm green, isn't it?!" I thought he ment green as in, green means go.
That would make some sense, but that's a little too deep for the joke. It's about his color and prejudice - same as how Kermit sang "It's not easy being green."

it appears to be ( though not 100%) a variation on the infamous Ali g's phrase "Is it coz i iz black?" Ali G sprang to fame only the previous year. but lets be honest the entire film and book is about prejudice and the Grinch being ostracised because he is different
You missed one that me and my mom just noticed while watching this with the toddlers we watch. When he's skiing down the mountain on his way to return the sled, he lands on the front of it and Cindy Lou asks him "Are you alright?" To which the Grinch replied with "Are you kidding? The sun is shining and the powder's bitchin'." We weren't sure we heard it right, so after the movie was over and the kids were in bed, we rewinded it and turned on the subtitles and sure enough, that's what he said.
Can’t believe they had a key party in the movie. Hollywoods obsession with swinging and infidelity is disgusting
I'm just glad that I didn't know what a key party was when I was a kid. It also made it kinda funny when I saw that episode of That 70s Show with the key party.

He yelled "Vengeance!". It basically means the act to hurt someone because they did something to hurt you or something.

There is one that I believe you forgot, after Cindy is done with her interview when we have a nice view of the mountain in the lower left hand corner there is a sign that is interesting (in the move 31:54)

When the grinch and max sneak into the mayors sleeping quarters… the mayor is talking in his sleep and the grinch uses a girlish voice (Martha) to “dirty” talk with him. and he has the mayor make out with max’s behind (hole)…

Clearly only parents without a conscience could EVER let their children watch this. I recognized the absolutely unnecessary debauchery and never allowed my kids to watch it after that. Immoral or simply unintelligent parents would say: “kids don’t notice that”. Those are the same parents who fight and cuss on their homes and are angry when they’re kids act on those ‘lessons’. HORRIBLE version of a great childhood Christmas movie. I’m incensed that Ron Howard directed this atrocity
