    #1 Proven Trumpet Course To Quickly Improve High Notes, Power, and Endurance! trumpetsizzle.com
    Did you know that I created what has now become the NUMBER 1 Embouchure Improvement Course Of All Time? It's true! Why not fact check it? Kurt Thompson's 16 Week Upper Register Course began in 2009 and has now (2021) been taught to well over 1000 students. Almost half of those students took the course live each week with Kurt and the other half did it on their own with the video tutorials!
    FACT CHECK: When trying to determine what is the BEST anything today, look for reviews, but BE CAREFUL: Written reviews can be faked, right? Still, many times we only have written reviews to go on at places like Amazon. REAL VIDEO REVIEWS BY REAL PEOPLE that got the product or became the student is the TRUE WAY to 100% fact check something.
    Currently there are tons of video reviews by students from 15 years of age up to 88 years of age that have had tremendous success with Kurt Thompson's Course! CHECK HERE: th-cam.com/play/PL0PQUYopKD-L2Vj0awGJK9NNY96hVFaTY.html
    The other method would be cash sales. NOBODY comes close to matching the record setting sales of the 16 Week Upper Register Course! NADA!
    If you find someone who tries to make that claim, check out their student video reviews with the student doing some playing...THEY DON'T EXIST!
    CAREFUL: Be leery of trumpet teachers, courses, programs that have a lot of celebrity trumpet players giving an endorsement! Almost ALWAYS that endorsement is paid or because they are friends with the teacher. Think about it: If Wayne Bergeron gave a thumbs up on some teacher's course, did he actually go through the entire course and test it out? YOU KNOW HE DID NOT! His friend showed him the course. He browsed through it. Said: Hmmm ok, looks good! BE LEERY when you see that. Nothing wrong with friends helping each other out, but for YOU the student, you can easily be misled by putting too much weight on these famous trumpet friends.
    I am happy to have you try to find a course that competes with the 16 Week Upper Register Course. Don't bother trying to find one that supersedes it. That won't happen. However, if you can find one that has some decent competition, leave a comment. Decent competition does not mean written reviews, celebrity reviews, or even people just talking about it. It means legit music students PLAYING and DEMONSTRATING the success they had while taking the course! You find that? Let us know!
    INTERESTED? You should be! Did you know you can take a small sample of the course just to get an idea if it is for you? It is only a sample. Don't expect anything from the sample, but to give you an idea of how the course is. CHECK OUT THE SAMPLE: trumpetsizzle.com/products/sample-week-11-new-revised-upper-register-course-for-all-brass-musicians-2019
    Speak italiana, español, portugués? The 16 Week Upper Register Course has been fully translated to Italian, Spanish, and Portuguese. Know anyone who would learn better with their native language in the subtitles? trumpetsizzle.com/collections/trumpet-lessons-translated-to-italiana-espanol-portugues
    Fact check, Be Skeptical, but in the end, you will come back to the 16 WEEK UPPER REGISTER COURSE for trumpet and all brass musicians as the NUMBER 1 embouchure improvement course on the planet!

    I've been playing for only 16 months and can get a high A, sometimes a high B on my standard Yamaha 14B4 mouthpiece and was recently leant a Bach 1 1/2C. I found the Bach much more comfortable to play with and now I find my Yamaha mouthpiece easier to play with.
    At the end of the day, everyone has different lips, thin or thick and it's up to each person to find a mouthpiece they find comfortable playing. As you say, find the perfect mouthpiece for you.
    Thank you for an extremely informative video and for exploding the myth.

    Neil Saunders 17s. That’s what I used in college in pep band. I used the baritone equivalent in Drum Corps. I really like them. The story goes, as it was told to me, that these mouthpieces were originally made to help people with braces play with less pressure and pain. People without braces started digging them too. You sound great!

    Very true Kurt, I've also played on a wide range of mouthpieces, Schilke 14A4A, Vincent bach 3C, 1C, 5C, 7C, and 5B, and a Stork 3E, experimenting for what the best mouthpieces would be for me. I've found that being a high school musician (we have marching band, jazz band, concert band, and orchestra) that the mouthpiece can effect range and endurance, but in order to really have great range and endurance you have to develop it yourself, you can't just pop in a shallow mouthpiece with a small rim and expect it to give you the range and flexibility you want, you have to develop it yourself, I play lead at Santa Fe High School in Texas, and am principal trumpet player outside of jazz band in my school. Even still Im not just blessed with the talent, I had to work to be as good as I am even practicing so much as 3 and 4 hours a day. It's definitely not all about the mouthpiece though a shallow mouthpiece can improve your range a step or two, I play on a 3C outside of jazz band and a 3E in jazz band and can play a double F on my 3C and a double A on my 3E and am still working my range up as a junior in highschool.

    Well, I don't know about anyone else, but a mouthpiece that has "facilitates high register" in its online description definitely makes it easier to play higher, and as a result I can play higher. Maybe I missed the point of the video.

      Actually it's about the PURSUIT of high notes....and not just trumpet...ALL brass players. There are only a minority of brass players around the world that have mastered the upper register and only a fraction of those that have mastered the EXTREME upper register....the way it is!

  • @Mastblood
    @Mastblood 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I play on a Schilke 12 and I can get a high E-Eb but it's kinda sharp. I recently bought a jelly screamer mouthpiece for my pep band games and found my range increased 3 more notes and I found that I can play those notes for much longer periods of time without losing my strength in my embouchure. I think you an hit those high notes on any mouthpiece but the "cheater" mouthpieces just make it easier to hit those notes

    • @TRUMPETSIZZLE
      @TRUMPETSIZZLE  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You do have a good point. Maynard wasn't playing on a huge bath tub Bach 1 1/4 C...that's for sure

  • @gdavis0213
    @gdavis0213 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I switched to euphonium in high school and I disagree when people say a shallow mouthpiece plays higher notes. when I switched, I was able to play higher than I ever played on the trumpet, hell when I started out it was actually harder to hit lower notes. so I think that the 1 1/2 c mouthpiece you are using IS why you were able to play the high note, since it's bigger than what highschoolers generally use.

    • @TRUMPETSIZZLE
      @TRUMPETSIZZLE  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, that is not entirely accurate

    • @gdavis0213
      @gdavis0213 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      right because I know that there are some sizes that are perfect for certain embouchures. but I do however know that the size of a mouthpiece can affect not just the note, but the tone as well. If anything, it's probably more about what type of mouthpiece feels the most comfortable, but for me, the bigger the better.

  • @Dischingo
    @Dischingo 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Over the summer I played baritone and the rim and cup being big was harder to play in the high register, But after a while it got easier and easier to play high to the point that I could play higher than my trumpet. After playing the baritone i tended to overblown on the trumpet while tying to hit high notes.(I currently play on a 3c/5c) I want to know if switching to a bigger rim and deeper mouthpiece like the 1c or a bigger bore trumpet will be a good switch for me.
    Thank you,

    • @TRUMPETSIZZLE

    Practice and Practice some more. But practice right. I had a schilike 22 in High School and belted out high notes all the time. But I did have a great private teacher and practiced the right way. I've lost a little bit of my ability over the years but I don't play as much as I used to. Also Switched to a Schilijke 15B, which just feels so much better to me than the 22.

    You said the bach 1.5 c makes life more difficult. why? I'm new to trumpeting. I picked up an inexpensive trumpet. It came with a #13 J.Marcinkiewicz. Will it be easier for me now as a beginner to go with a lower number mouth piece? or should I just keep working with this one and get good with it? Some people have told me if it's comfortable keep it, but I have nothing to compare it to so I don't know if it's comfortable or less comfortable than anything else.

    My trumpet story is like this: start lessen to Dizzy in the 50th, couldent play hi like him, I saw myself as a looser, but one day came my saver rawmodel it was Chesney Baker, his recordings over the years, no high note playing and I play in that ideom since then.

    Great video myth buster.I generally use a bach 1 1/4C and I can go to double C and a little higher at a softer sound and I get a really nice tone, including playable pedal tones. I also have a Schilke 6A4A, and even though I slot much easier,(too easy) on the way up and down I still don't get any meaningful extension to my range and the tone is not nearly as nice as my 1 1/4C. For my playing style a cross between Arturo Sandoval and Chet Baker, I like my 1 1/4C.
    I bought the shilke back in the 70s when Bill Chase was popular based on the same myth you are busting in this video and I never played well with it and have hardly used it. I would like to try something even deeper and larger when I get around to visiting a music store.
    P.S. my trumpet is an unheard of and unidentifiable Halifax ML (.459), I have no idea who made it, I bought it in 1984 looking to upgrade from my student model Olds Ambassador. I would love to move up to an Adams A4 and see what happens.
    BTW, I just returned to playing after 3-4 years off for a long term illness and I have only been practicing a month using Arturo's first book with the range exercises and it works well for me. and I don't have any more talent than the average guy, I am just a fan of hard work all my life.

    If Kurt was a runner he'd run a mile in under 4 minutes. I'll never do that and I don't think I'll ever get a double C either. Oh well - back to the jogging...

    When Bach still catered to business players, the 7c was a better mouthpiece, it was smaller, the rim was friendlier, and the mouthpiece was SMALLER than todays Bach mouthpieces. It wasn't one in a thousand professional playing the 7c on the job, but significantly more at that time. The Bach mouthpieces of the time were just as inconsistent as they are today!

      the 7c tended to have a flatter rim than they do today, and also had a reasonable cup, rather than the toilet bowl they have today.

    I'm a little skeptical, since I've seen a demonstration video of a really cheater way to hit high notes, and that was actually by putting essentially a "double reed" into one of the valve tuning slides, and then when they want to hit that high note, they will just make it look like they are preparing for a struggle, and hide the fact that they are pushing down a valve. Pushing down the valve would make the air pass through the "reed" in the tuning slide, and with just sheer air flow could obtain ridiculously high notes, but none of them with musical value. (Not really a double reed, more plastic type of a reed in some random noise maker) Also, out of boredom, I decided to check if you were actually playing a double C by using a tuner, and that sure as hell was a double C.

      Thanks...sometimes a small bit of skepticism is warranted.

    What's a cheater mouthpiece?

      A cheater mouthpiece (commercially known as a screamer mouthpiece) is a mouthpiece designed with a shallow cup in order for the player to reach high notes with ease. The downside to these mouthpieces is that they have god-awful tone quality.

      I don't really belive in the name cheater mouthpiece because think of this:
      You use a huge sledge hammer to drive in railroad ties , but you use a very small light weight hammer for driving in picture nails to hang pictures in your home.
      The smaller hammer is not a "cheater" hammer any more than a mouthpiece designed to play and sound great in the commercial world
