    #1 Proven Trumpet Course To Quickly Improve High Notes, Power, and Endurance! trumpetsizzle.com
    Did you know that I created what has now become the NUMBER 1 Embouchure Improvement Course Of All Time? It's true! Why not fact check it? Kurt Thompson's 16 Week Upper Register Course began in 2009 and has now (2021) been taught to well over 1000 students. Almost half of those students took the course live each week with Kurt and the other half did it on their own with the video tutorials!
    FACT CHECK: When trying to determine what is the BEST anything today, look for reviews, but BE CAREFUL: Written reviews can be faked, right? Still, many times we only have written reviews to go on at places like Amazon. REAL VIDEO REVIEWS BY REAL PEOPLE that got the product or became the student is the TRUE WAY to 100% fact check something.
    Currently there are tons of video reviews by students from 15 years of age up to 88 years of age that have had tremendous success with Kurt Thompson's Course! CHECK HERE: th-cam.com/play/PL0PQUYopKD-L2Vj0awGJK9NNY96hVFaTY.html
    The other method would be cash sales. NOBODY comes close to matching the record setting sales of the 16 Week Upper Register Course! NADA!
    If you find someone who tries to make that claim, check out their student video reviews with the student doing some playing...THEY DON'T EXIST!
    CAREFUL: Be leery of trumpet teachers, courses, programs that have a lot of celebrity trumpet players giving an endorsement! Almost ALWAYS that endorsement is paid or because they are friends with the teacher. Think about it: If Wayne Bergeron gave a thumbs up on some teacher's course, did he actually go through the entire course and test it out? YOU KNOW HE DID NOT! His friend showed him the course. He browsed through it. Said: Hmmm ok, looks good! BE LEERY when you see that. Nothing wrong with friends helping each other out, but for YOU the student, you can easily be misled by putting too much weight on these famous trumpet friends.
    I am happy to have you try to find a course that competes with the 16 Week Upper Register Course. Don't bother trying to find one that supersedes it. That won't happen. However, if you can find one that has some decent competition, leave a comment. Decent competition does not mean written reviews, celebrity reviews, or even people just talking about it. It means legit music students PLAYING and DEMONSTRATING the success they had while taking the course! You find that? Let us know!
    INTERESTED? You should be! Did you know you can take a small sample of the course just to get an idea if it is for you? It is only a sample. Don't expect anything from the sample, but to give you an idea of how the course is. CHECK OUT THE SAMPLE: trumpetsizzle.com/products/sample-week-11-new-revised-upper-register-course-for-all-brass-musicians-2019
    Speak italiana, español, portugués? The 16 Week Upper Register Course has been fully translated to Italian, Spanish, and Portuguese. Know anyone who would learn better with their native language in the subtitles? trumpetsizzle.com/collections/trumpet-lessons-translated-to-italiana-espanol-portugues
    Fact check, Be Skeptical, but in the end, you will come back to the 16 WEEK UPPER REGISTER COURSE for trumpet and all brass musicians as the NUMBER 1 embouchure improvement course on the planet!

    I spent my entire life with the 7C mouthpiece. It probably limited my upper register terribly but I just followed what my teacher told me back in 2nd grade when I began. I no longer play but what I am hearing you do with it is amazing.

    Kurt. I am 58, played in bands and Orchestras for nearly 30 years. I stopped playing for 2 years and decided to come back to the Trumpet and that's how I ended up on this site. I agree about the 7 C 3 E comparison however you are an incredible Trumpet player. Man you are the Michael Jordan of the Trumpet. When you can take all those huge toilet bowl Bach mouthpieces and scream on them, well it blows my mind. Through the years I've spent a few thousand dollars on mouthpieces. I have been a solid 2nd player but never could scream and I've played everything out there. My guess is I haven't paid the price. I haven't done the hours of correcting calisthenics for lead playing. But you really encourage me. It is amazing and a real treat to hear you play. Awesome dude. Blessings my friend. Mark.

      Thanks for the kind words Mark. Players have spent decades on what you described above and still can't do much better than a High D or E. The pursuit of Upper Register and Endurance is ILLOGICAL and COUNTER-INTUITIVE. Once you understand that, you will understand why more elbow grease won't work. Kurt, I have been practicing and relearning my approach to trumpet playing. I am using my Schilke 14a4a for now but plan to change to the Bach 3 E very soon. Since changing to some of your techniques, things are happening. I'm getting different results and using facial muscles I haven't used before. This is an exciting journey. Thanks. Mark.

    I totally agree wirh your assesstment of the Bach 7C, but for me, I have not found a Bach mouthpiece I like. In my mourhpiece collection I have Bach 11/2 C, 3C, 5E, 6E, & 7C but could not find any of them a good fit. I'm not dissing any of them, as they are high quality well made mouthpieces, but just not for me. After much trial and practice I settled on the following=== bach Strad model 43 EX large bore (0.468) a Schilke 24, my Benge No. 3 bell large bore (0.464) a Schilke 20d2D, my Holton Stradodyne modei 27 large bore (0.464)a Schilke 23 cusrom and my Yamaha 631 Flugelhorn a Denis Wick 2FL. I know these large mouthpieces are not for everyone, but for me, they are what works. I'm now almost 80 years old, and on a very good day my E's and F's above high C are clear intune and musical. We are all different, but I totally agree, that putting the 7C mouthpiece as the end all for beginners is wrong. Thank you very much for your informative views. Regards John.

    I bit and moved from my Bach 5c to the Bach 3e. At first I had a real airy tone, but after a few days my chops settled down and its starting to work for me. I'm keeping the 5c for low end parts in church, but with the 3e I'm really starting to enjoy jazz pieces.

    I use the 3E almost exclusively. I wore one out completely, and am half way through another one. I don't mess with 7C or even 3C any more. I used to use a Jet-Tone for certain special parts, but I don't any more. I have a Bach 1 (no letter) for certain dark rich parts.

      Hey Kurt, I did finally get the 3E ($55 or so, can't remember exactly) but while I was waiting, I had already started playing on a Bach 3C which had come as an extra mp with my son's horn.
      I definately like the 3C more than the 7C and instantly, I got a little bit more endurance. It feels so much better than the 7c , I wouldn't have even given it a try if not for your video so I really appreciate the work you're doing on youtube - it's fantastic!.
      Anyway, the 3E came in and man, I can't hardly play on it at all, I guess the shallow mp is a big paradigm shift for me as I just can't get much of a sound especially the higher I go.
      I haven't totally given up on the 3E as I'll work with it some to see if my lips can adust to it over time, but the really cool thing is that my son (13 years old) tried the 3E and instantly helped him out with his range so he has completely ditched the 7C he had for my 3E and is using it in his band now so I may have to order another one as he doesn't want me to share it with him now.

    • @TRUMPETSIZZLE
      @TRUMPETSIZZLE  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey there Dave. Yes, I will be making another follow up mouthpiece tutorial on situations like yours. Well, a very very shallow mouthpiece won't work for everyone including me. Problem? The BACH 3E is not a very very shallow mouthpiece! It is only a little shallow compared to the likes of some JET TONES, Schilke 6a4a, etc...So:
      1. You have enormous lips and 3E is too small
      or
      2. You are rolling in TOO MUCH
      or
      3. You are not rolling in, but still shoving too much lip into the mouthpiece
      or
      4. You need to slightly adjust the mouthpiece a bit higher or lower, but we are talking just a tiny tiny fraction only...like a hair's width or so
      or
      5. You have "stiffitis" or stiff, unresponsive lips that have been helped by a bigger cupped mouthpiece enabling easier vibration.
      or, LAST
      6. You lack overall lip or embouchure strength!
      Now, if it is not one of the above, then just try a few back flips or maybe some cart wheels and that should do the trick my friend!

    Some Bach mouthpieces like the 7C, 1C , 5C ,even 1,25C can be sharp for the lip, that's true. Denis Wick mouthpieces are almost the opposite and I can switch these mouthpieces easier since they are all flat, but I find them not very sensitive. Switching from a 1,5 C Bach to a 7E (say for piccolo) means not only :smaller diameter, less depth but also a totally different sharper rim (almost the same of the 7C) and I can ruin my lips fast on it, especially since I use too much pressure for the high notes. I don't know about that 3E but rims are very personal.

    • @TRUMPETSIZZLE
      @TRUMPETSIZZLE  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Again, the 3E is the overall winner. Once you start talking piccolo, or broadway or whatever, you likely are gravitating to a more specific mouthpiece and...MORE $$$

I used to use a Bobby Shew Lead for Jazz but the tone was worse than the double cup, and the highest note I have to play is a G, which is rough on the 5C but is fine on the double cup. • @bobboduckee4253

    I personally didn't like the 3e. I just don't like the lack of depth in it. It certainly did help my upper register by a couple whole steps sounding much clearer; however, my lower register took a massive tone hit. I used to have a great tone in everything up to high c playing on a Bach 5c. Tonguing and slurring was a little easier on the 3e though. I think I need to go get a 3c because I like the larger rim of the 3e but not the lack of depth.

      Well dern I am first chair and played a fair amount of solos😂😂. I'm thinking I just need to get more used to playing on a size 3 rim then the depth should come more naturally as I continue to use the two. Right now they're a bit too different

      If a trumpet player can't play well/comfortably on a certain mouthpiece, it may not be the mouthpiece for him or her. I'm simply saying that the mouthpiece does what Bach says it will. Improves tone and vibrance of the upper register with some drawbacks on the lower. And those drawbacks are amplified because I am not comfortable playing on such a shallow mouthpiece. Regardless, I'm no professional so I don't play much music that will go exceedingly high. To this day the highest I've ever had to play for a director of mine was a musical in high school

    Classical player here. the straight 2 (no letter) was my favourite for years. Working on a 1 1/2C currently (good "Soprano timpani" tone at large air mass playing in the mid range) - anything lyrical I still like my 2. Baroque/Natural trumpet im on a replica Haas from Egger SI6 but that's ... different.

    Hi Kurt. What do you think about using "lead" pieces when you are still building your range? I'm a comeback player, former 3rd-parter in high school, now 20 years later I've been playing every day for about 7 months. As a teen I could barely get above the staff, now I'm solid up to high C, and squeaking out d's, e's, and the occasional f. I went from 3c to 3d, at first, but now have a v cup with about the same rim. I really feel the boost on the 3mv in terms of having plenty of endurance to play a show in a rock ensemble--I can get thru the set without "leaking" at the corners, get the sizzle needed to pair with amplified guitar/drums, and it makes high A, B, and C "giggable" without much effort. I've even overcome the initial shallow mouth piece issues of having low control to articulate, to move thru fast passages, and to produce vibrato (initially I would just cut-out if I used jaw vibrato, and now I can get pretty much the same lyrical sound as a c-cup vibrato). I've been typically using the more "conservative" switch of the 3d to do my practice routines and strength building though, and then switching to the 3mv a couple of days before a gig so I'm producing sound consistently and all tuned in. My question is, if I switch to the shallower one full time, or even go with a 3e as you suggest, is this not bad for my progress through the developmental stage I'm in? When did you stop playing on deeper cupped mouthpieces altogether? After getting to double G? After DHC? It seems like you do all your practicing at this point on your custom mp which is in the range of a 3e in terms of cup-volume and backbore.

    • @TRUMPETSIZZLE
      @TRUMPETSIZZLE  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Short answer: I stopped playing on 5c and 3c about half way through my senior year in high school.
      Long answer: It's more about embouchure development and air. Once you have that taken care of, you can mess around with mouthpieces and not suffer too many consequences. I do have a comeback player course, but since you are no longer a PURE comeback player, BUT have been playing, I highly recommend you get involved in my 16 week course. trumpetsizzle.com The 3E never hurt anyone's progress at all!

    Oddly, I've gone the exact opposite direction: I tried a Marcinkewicz Roger Ingram but it was way too shallow and tight, so I moved to a Schilke 12B4 but it sounded stuffy, so I moved to a 14B which was better but still felt too shallow and thin in the lower register, so now I'm playing a Schilke 14 which looks almost identical to a Bach 7C. I play jazz but also play in the first trumpet section of a brass band. I seem to be managing to play the parts (up to Bb) so I'm sticking with it.

      Kurt, I bought the 3 E and have been playing it for a few weeks. At First at could barely play the F scale on the staff but have stayed with it. I found the key here is development. Slow long tones, middle of the chart scales. When you're fatigued quit. Go back next day and slowly go to long tones, low tones and let your chops get adjusted to this new piece. Many muscles need to gravitate to it. Every time I decide this is not for me I gain more endurance, tone and power. One must stick to it. Now I have a question. I have asthma ( just diagnosed) and the horn and mouthpiece is taking too much air. Can I have someone cut the cup off and have it threaded for different backbores? Maybe tighten it up some. Thanks. Mark.

      @@thomasreppond3608 I don’t recommend. It’s a very brittle and thin sounding mouthpiece and extremely easy to bottom out if u play with any lip intrusion. It would be a terrible all around mouthpiece.

    How do you rate the Bobby Shew Jazz or the Lead? I am a "comeback" player and considering buying some of your lessons. I am working on my upper register and seem to be stuck at F or F# above high C. Is my mouthpiece holding me back?

      I have both of these mouthpieces now and will review them very soon. It's not the mouthpiece, it's your lack of lip strength and possibly lack of embouchure strength!

      I am playing on a 3C right now, but I also found an older Schilke 15 mouthpiece that I might try as well. My lips are a little more "fleshy" and based on the stork website I should have a 17mm-17.5mm mouthpiece. I guess I am on the "mouthpiece safari!" I am considering a Bob Reeves setup this summer. They are doing a valve alignment on my horn right now. Thanks for all you do, and I love your videos. I watched every one of them while I was on alert this last week. Great stuff!
