She said in an interview that she was so fan of this song that she would like the people to hear the lyrics better. That's why her version is more soft & clean and, at some point, more than a cover, but a personal service for the audience.

@@gomongiothe vocoder effect is done on purpose as its the instrumental that they want you to focus on, it's also since the Daft Punk members always said they were robots not human, a lot of their music has a robotic voice. I'd suggest giving the original another chance, as great as this and many covers are, the original is still the best

The 1950's Stepford Wife, fussing over the "husband" looking gorgeous in red lipstick for him, dinner on the table, serving him his every need, but hes a plastic dummy, he's dead in the eyes, the relationship has died, it's not happy and romantic anymore, it's not safe and not somewhere she wants to be chained to....ball and chain, marriage, being stifled, subservient, lost herself....As a woman in that kind of relationship I see exactly where she went with the video. Looking over at the old pictures of them and afraid to leave what she knew so well but in the end she knew all was lost on him. 💛❤💙💜🤷🏻♀️ hope this helps! @S Chandler I was there 11 years ago with an ex...I packed my suitcase and left everything, the final straw was him complaining again I'd used the last of the milk 🤷🏻♀️...plus I was a prisoner in my own home and even his friends told him I wouldnt stand for that much longer. I hit 30 and gained my self respect and left him. Met my husband 2 weeks later 🤩💍 engaged a year later, married a year after!

@@denis_ordonez its funny because i found this track when i stayed in a random hotel during a trip, it was late and i turned on the TV radio at like 4am, and this was the first song playing. knowing it was 5 years old has me slightly aggravated being that i always listen to daft punk hahaa, algorithm fail.

Huge fan of Daft Punk but also a huge fan of Natalie so this was a match made in heaven for me. She's no run of the mill pop princess she has great taste, great delivery and great albums and her own music is tasteful, classy and always ambitious.

Love this version of the song! It´s great to actually understand the lyrics, because they are very meaningful. Natalie´s voice is stunning and this song has a nostalgic feeling (but about an unhealthy relationship). The video also reflects the lyrics of the song really well.
I'm forever impressed with the elasticity of certain songs which can have their entire mood and feel changed completely just because another artist changed up the arrangement, or tempo or mood. A DJ's mix is the obvious example common today but I also personally LOVE it when a singer interprets another artist's well known song in their own way. It's an hommage to that artist and the most sincere form of compliment. To take the idea a little further, I think that it would really cool to take a truly iconic song and have perhaps 12 varied artists all separately record their own rendition of the same song and then present them as a group all in a single album.
No cross referencing allowed. Sort of like a: "Who wore it best?" presentation of the song... in a non-competitive "face-off".

It's like a short play. Absolutely great! It all seems so desperate, it's haunting how good this video is. Love the instrumentation, too. No matter how good the original was, I had never truly listened to the lyrics before. :-) This cover unlocks like a door.

This song is an excellent piece. Julian Casablancas voice pitch addresses to whatever vocalist you want to pick but to me there is not only a narrator on these lyrics there are 2 and both have their own unsolved problems, 2 people who love or appreciate to each other but together may not work at all.

What I love about Natalie Imbruglia is that she is a truly artist, she doesn't need to get naked to show her talent...she looks very classy, the fact that she covered this song at first made me think, maybe, it won't work. She proved me wrong, the lyrical content and music makes it a unique work... the video very suitable and with a dark essence... thumbs up for this comeback!!
