Border was good. But I remember two very realistic war movies made by Chetan Anand-- "Haqeekat" (1963) based upon China war and "Hindustan ki Kasam" (1975) based upon Pakistan war. These were very low budget movies and I doubt their prints might not be available now. HKK had wonderful music by late Madan Mohan and all songs were hit. Two lovely songs I still remember- "Har taraf ab yahi afsane hein, hum teri aakhon ke deewane hein" and "Hai tere sath meri wafaa, main nahi to kya"

Dunkirk was a "British Film" as in it only focused on the "British" aspect of the everything related to that particular event. I had the same thought as you guys had when I saw the movie, because a significant no. of Indian troops were part of almost all the british campaigns during the WW2, they were at dunkirk too. To acknowledge and praise someone else's significant contributions in your personal cause is an admirable quality, its a strong character trait. Its no surprise the Brits don't have it. It was them providing them backup ration and ammunition and British were to dump them back in hands of German forces to let while ones escape. Hundred of Animals were supplied from India and had their vocal chords removed to silence them while moving in war zone. smh

I'm from an Indian air force family. And I'm very proud of my dad who was active in Kargil war rescue. Thank you so much for reacting to this. Glad to see this much recognition of air force by civilians, earlier people only talked about army but now people recognize this and it's so good to see this change.
You are right about Sikhs and the military, and how you'll find large numbers of them in the various branches of the Indian defence forces, especially the army and the Air Force. I am Sikh and my father retired as a Group Captain (equivalent to an Army Colonel) after 30 years of service. I remember the Air Force Day celebrations quite vividly from my childhood and teenage years... The excitement of watching the fly past while sitting just a few 100 metres away from the runway at whichever Air Force station (base) we were at for that year, the heart pumping roar of the fighter planes as they flew by and performed daring acrobatics, watching my parents get dressed up for the big party/ celebration at the Officers' Mess in the evening... all fond memories. This video brought a lot of those and other great memories from those years back. My father has interacted with and even served with some of the officers who have spoken in this video. I still love listening to stories about my father's experiences while he served in the IAF. Great times!

"Border" is a movie which I love and closest to my heart since I watched it so many times when I was a kid( and I had no interest in movies back then). So many times I've seen it but I still cry at it's ending scene song...it's songs effect me even more now, when I get their true meaning.
That's literally me. I've never really watched any other movie more than once. Till date. Hollywood or Bollywood. But as a child, I used to watch EVERY telecast of Border on TV. Amazing movie, great songs. Mere dushman, mere Bhai. Sandese aate Hein. These were masterpieces that Javed Akhtar gifted us.
Border was good. But I remember two very realistic war movies made by Chetan Anand-- "Haqeekat" (1963) based upon China war and "Hindustan ki Kasam" (1975) based upon Pakistan war. These were very low budget movies and I doubt their prints might not be available now. HKK had wonderful music by late Madan Mohan and all songs were hit. Two lovely gazals I still remember- "Har taraf ab yahi afsane hein, hum teri aakhon ke deewane hein" and "Hai tere sath meri wafaa, main nahi to kya"

Sardaar Arjan Singh the old Sikh person you saw early in the video is the only person in Indian Air force till date who got to the rank of Air chief Marshal. He is a legend and so respected person, very polite and humble and so much respect he commanded always. He recently died.
I love how both of you try and want to learn not just about bollywood but the country as an whole. My dad has served 20 years in indian air force . I have grown up watching these fighter jets and what not. I studied in air force school. And trust me IT WAS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL TIME OF MY LIFE. the respect people show whenever they hear that my dad is an ex IAF Sergeant is so beautiful. My dad came out of service in 2006 and since then he teaches children for free in villages (4 to be exact) and helps students who want to do something but dont have the financial support.

‘Border’ is the best army movie here in India. I’ve been to the army cantt as one of my uncle is in the army and it’s usually being played there in their theatres.
There is movie called ‘Border’ released in 97 . It motivated my sister in her school days, to join the army later.Around her army training days Hritik’s movie ‘Lakshay ‘ was released . Every morning while her fellow cadets listened to some devotional songs , she listened to the title track of Lakshay religiously . She passed away 2 years later, but her memories make me proud.
One unsung heroic aspect of Indian Air Force is the amount of high altitude flying they undertake. I would bet it is the maximum across the world due to the sheer magnitude of the Himalayas in India. I have heard from my cousin who served in Siachen as an army captain. The armymen get some time for acclimatization. But the pilots flying the rations up and down don't. And it tells on their health. So next time you hear about a crash in the Himalayas, don't just blame the aircraft or the pilot.

Border is a multistarrer film which depicts actual event of 1971 war , where 120 soilders faced 2 tank regiments I.e 4000 men with their armored troops and suffered only 2 casualties and were able to stop the attack for the night and later on the day break airforce kick their ass. However the movie shows more casualties. And you will see our favorite patriotic and action hero sunny deol.

Border is a multistarrer film which depicts actual event of 1971 war , where 120 soilders faced 2 tank regiments I.e 4000 men with their armored troops and suffered only 2 casualties and were able to stop the attack for the night and later on the day break airforce kick their ass. However the movie shows more casualties. And you will see our favorite patriotic and action hero sunny deol.

My village is near the border in Rajasthan.... During the Kargil war, no light was lit at night so that the pakistani jets couldn't see that there's a village and attack.
Rafale gets added to the flying arsenal today. Other important fighter craft that didn't get mention in the video (I suppose) was the Sukhoi.
