I am 26 years old and words cannot describe how much this scene broke me. I live in a family of 7 brothers and 3 sisters. I am the oldest. We lost our mother a year ago when she had a stroke that resulted from an abusive act by my stepfather who is now in prison, making me the sole guardian of 4 of our sibilings. We had to make a decision to take our mom off life support, and for that reason this scene will forever haunt me. Now, my youngest half brother has leukemia and when he told me to let him die if hes ever in that situation, the pain started all over again. It was difficult to hide it from him, but i can honestly say ive experienced what Nanachi went through here. My brother does feel as if he is a burden some of the time. Masterful storytelling

It's amazing how many anime leave a lasting impact on their audience, Made in Abyss is one of many anime I fully believe would have been classics a decade ago. But with the huge proliferation of the genre nowadays it remains criminally underrated.

And now we'll have to wait 4 years for season 2 like it was for AoT Fans.... No, but seriously... This Anime is so awesome... It's the best of this year and it must have a 2nd season.... I don't know how I can explain the feelings you have while watching this....

I rewatched this series earlier this year, and while that made me start crying, what made me start bawling and have to pause the show was what Riko said in the scene immediately afterwards, about the presence that was with her and where she went. I just… broke down. Inconsolable sobbing. And yes, while I did not cry nearly so hard at anything in the second season, the emotional nadirs in that arc are somehow even more, for lack of a better word, *scouring.* It's less that there was no reason to cry than that I almost physically could not-although as the season went on, the opening actually brought me close several times.
Saddest anime scene for me so far, really. Still makes me cry every time. It has insane staying power unlike some other seasonal stuff. The only comparable experiences so far for me are Muv-Luv Alternative and SubaHibi, which speaks volumes about how incredibly good MiA is. Anecdotally, I have a friend who rarely cries at sad scenes, and I bet her that this will make her shed a tear, which it did.

I recently had to say goodnight to my cat of 16 years due to 2 types of terminal cancer. She had a massive lump on her thyroid gland (which was the 2nd cancer). When we got the diagnosis, it was too advanced for us to do anything and her prognosis was between 6 months - a year.. she only lasted 2 days. She couldn’t breathe, wouldn’t eat, she just gave up. This song hits me much harder now because my treasure is gone.
I'll be honest, this anime has unparalleled animations, great characters, a bountiful backstory that not only makes sense, but also brings many things into imagination. On top of that, the music is incredibly good, at least 3 tracks in the anime make it into my top 10 songs. Furthermore, when I watched the anime, I was so sucked in that I almost cried twice, once in the part where Mitty died, and again when Riko got poisoned and was dying. If you haven't watched the anime, then what on Earth are you doing?! Go watch it now!
“You’ll always be my treasure” Legitimately and easily among the most heartbreaking scenes in anime history and the music makes it harder to not cry either. Very rarely have I seen an anime that makes me actually cry but MIA did it.
I started crying when Nanachi was arranging the plushies, just something about it made me emotional. I sobbed like I've never sobbed before that night.
this show gave me a new perspective on what empathy is, as it made me cry for a fictional character that isn't in a movie when i haven't since i was 10 years old. I thought i was unable to, movies only working on me because of the media they're limited to forcing their stories having to be faced paced and hard hitting fast. episode 13 was different. Nanachi gave me a new perspective, and made in abyss helped me break a barrier I've wanted to for a long time. I started smiling as I sobbed; I had grown a little that day. Thank you, Made in abyss, for helping me develop as a human being.

there are boku no hero academia and shingeki no kyojin (and kakegurui why not but a bit under them in my opinion) for best anime of 2017, but let's be honest, Made in Abyss is a f*cking great adventure, and nanachi's story is just so extremely sad, I call it a masterpiece. Riley Pearce as a shonen I agree, mha has its own qualities and it's in my top 5 animes, but Made in Abyss is very unique with the Ghibli touch, I prefer it much more haha

Today again in the second season, we see Mitty again with a small and beautiful fragment of this ost and it felt so masterful and at the same time painful.
This scene broke me. I've seen some movies, animes, mmos. But losing Mitty was the most heart breaking thing I've ever seen. I'm a Father and I will always defend my child.

You know the Storys where children go to a great advanture? Made in Abyss is exactly that, it changes only one thing. It takes away any chance that riko will ever return. And this changes everything.
I just wanna hug Nanachi after that scene and tell her that everything will be alright. Anime really has a way with being able to get tears out of me. This is no exception, but this anime has got to be one of the few that game made me bawling for the death of a character that wasn't even able to speak. Props to Made in Abyss for being as wonderful an anime as it is.
My cat passed away today, or rather we had to put her down. I have watched this scene countless of times without ever truly understanding how Nanachi felt in that moment of a final caress, knowing fully that it was for the better and that Mitty would no longer be there with them ever again. I never knew until today, how much pain and sorrow it truly is to lose your treasure, even if you know that it is for the better. I miss my cat so much, and I want her back. She's gone, and I miss her so much. My valued treasure is gone, and I cried just like Nanachi did.

This Anime was great from head to toes, no one can change my mind setting to this anime tbh. At first I thought it wasn't a good anime (Haven't watched it at that time) but when I was bored in quarantine I decided to watch it and every since then. I was hyped for the 2nd season and I'm longing for it so hard rn.

Made In Abyss made something that no other anime or serie could do, make me cry, im not that type of person to cry easily but damn, Mitty's death was something else. Every time I listen to this I remember the panic and sadness in Nanachi's voice. Truly a masterpiece.
I ain't gonna lie; I almost ugly-cried with Nanachi watching this scene for the first time...and Brittney Karbowski being Nanachi in the English dub made it even more heart-wrenching (in a good way). It makes you want to hug Nanachi, even if she doesn't want it... Subsequent rewatching doesn't make the ugly-crying go away... 😭😭😭😭

I recently had to say goodnight to my cat of 16 years due to 2 types of terminal cancer.
She had a massive lump on her thyroid gland (which was the 2nd cancer). When we got the diagnosis, it was too advanced for us to do anything and her prognosis was between 6 months - a year.. she only lasted 2 days.
She couldn’t breathe, wouldn’t eat, she just gave up.
This song hits me much harder now because my treasure is gone.

I'll be honest, this anime has unparalleled animations, great characters, a bountiful backstory that not only makes sense, but also brings many things into imagination. On top of that, the music is incredibly good, at least 3 tracks in the anime make it into my top 10 songs. Furthermore, when I watched the anime, I was so sucked in that I almost cried twice, once in the part where Mitty died, and again when Riko got poisoned and was dying. If you haven't watched the anime, then what on Earth are you doing?! Go watch it now!

I started crying when Nanachi was arranging the plushies, just something about it made me emotional. I sobbed like I've never sobbed before that night.
this show gave me a new perspective on what empathy is, as it made me cry for a fictional character that isn't in a movie when i haven't since i was 10 years old. I thought i was unable to, movies only working on me because of the media they're limited to forcing their stories having to be faced paced and hard hitting fast.
episode 13 was different. Nanachi gave me a new perspective, and made in abyss helped me break a barrier I've wanted to for a long time. I started smiling as I sobbed; I had grown a little that day.
Thank you, Made in abyss, for helping me develop as a human being.

there are boku no hero academia and shingeki no kyojin (and kakegurui why not but a bit under them in my opinion) for best anime of 2017, but let's be honest, Made in Abyss is a f*cking great adventure, and nanachi's story is just so extremely sad, I call it a masterpiece. But no matter which is your favorite anime of this year, 2017 is an incredibly good year ^^

Riley Pearce as a shonen I agree, mha has its own qualities and it's in my top 5 animes, but Made in Abyss is very unique with the Ghibli touch, I prefer it much more haha

Today again in the second season, we see Mitty again with a small and beautiful fragment of this ost and it felt so masterful and at the same time painful.
This scene broke me. I've seen some movies, animes, mmos. But losing Mitty was the most heart breaking thing I've ever seen. I'm a Father and I will always defend my child.

You know the Storys where children go to a great advanture? Made in Abyss is exactly that, it changes only one thing. It takes away any chance that riko will ever return. And this changes everything.

Anime really has a way with being able to get tears out of me. This is no exception, but this anime has got to be one of the few that game made me bawling for the death of a character that wasn't even able to speak. Props to Made in Abyss for being as wonderful an anime as it is.

My cat passed away today, or rather we had to put her down. I have watched this scene countless of times without ever truly understanding how Nanachi felt in that moment of a final caress, knowing fully that it was for the better and that Mitty would no longer be there with them ever again. I never knew until today, how much pain and sorrow it truly is to lose your treasure, even if you know that it is for the better. I miss my cat so much, and I want her back. She's gone, and I miss her so much. My valued treasure is gone, and I cried just like Nanachi did.

Every time I listen to this I remember the panic and sadness in Nanachi's voice. Truly a masterpiece.
I ain't gonna lie; I almost ugly-cried with Nanachi watching this scene for the first time...and Brittney Karbowski being Nanachi in the English dub made it even more heart-wrenching (in a good way). It makes you want to hug Nanachi, even if she doesn't want it...
