    The Vintage 30 sounded better than the TAD 30 until you moved the mic. With the mic in the 'sweet spot' the TAD 30 sounds great. Great job as usual, John. 👍

    Quite an interesting one. I think I like it more than the V30 here, at least close mic. In the room it might be a bit harsh.
    The differences seem pretty complex to describe, imo. It's fuller, but not in a honky 1khz area type of way. It's brighter, very bright even, but has pretty much no fizz. I'd almost say it seems more scooped - but really it isn't, somehow.
    I like it. Open but not scooped, not honky but full enough, bright but not fizzy. Thank you very much for providing IRs too!

    It is an interesting variant of the G12H family, I would say. Although it is so prominent in the 5-6kHz region and up the register, compared to the V30, it is not that harsh to my ears than the G12H-30- 70th-Anniversary. I have to admit that I did like the reference position of the TAD speaker more than your sweet spot. It sounded more articulate in the ref. pos. and more dense in the later sweet spot. But anyway, again a fantastic job done by you, featuring a speaker!👌

    Sounds awesome, I’m already a huge fan of the g12h 70th though, so I’m not shocked by that. Probably am dating myself a bit here but the two sound very similar in the general profile, but the v30 sounds like it’s being broadcast on AM and the g12h TAD sounds like switching over to FM. The v30 is congested sounding by comparison.
    Confounded by the comments I’m reading about the g12h TAD sounding “darker” when it clearly has more highs and high mids both audibly and visually on the graph below 10k.

    Awesome video as always! Every single video of your I see I'm just reminded again and again how much I dislike the V30 haha. That TAD speaker is very interesting sounding, super bright, very tight. I'd be curious to see how it would sound paired with something like and Eminence Swamp Thang, or Private Jack. Two speakers that are, in my experience, fairly dark and rich sounding.

  • @riangarianga

    To my ears and liking, better than the V30.
    Perhaps it's a G12H Heritage Series, despite the part number?
    BTW, the G12H 70th Anniversary Special Edition (that's the whole sentence nobody would dare to say) is usually called just G12H Anniversary (like Celestion does in their own website) or G12H 30. It's the Vintage Series (more words in the name) version of the original G12H Greenback, until the Heritage Series one appeared (now discontinued), which came in two versions depending on your resonance frequency of choice, so people would call it the G12H Heritage 55 or 75, the Greenback H 55 or 75, and so on.

    Personally don't like it for distorted sounds. It kind of has those wimpy and harsh upper mid i'd expect of a bad v30. Adds a lot of atonal noise to the sound.
    The v30 has a better and fuller midrange and less frequencies that need cutting in the upper mids and highs.

    I'd give the win to the Vintage 30, but that doesn't mean the Tad speaker couldn't win with a different amp or an amp with different setup tubes in it. I believe that amps are 90% tube selection anyway. I've done a ton of swapping tubes in and out to know that I can change my Coreblade's sound character quite a bit by doing so.

    • @TheOtherJohnBrowne
      @TheOtherJohnBrowne  11 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Testing tubes and their tonal effects was on the do list for 2024 but I did not get around to it. 2025 hopefully

    • @torchlord11
      @torchlord11 10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@TheOtherJohnBrowne I found that speakers that don't produce a wide range of frequencies don't give a good representation of the different character tubes that can provide the overall sound. I think this is because if the speaker has limited high-end frequencies and limited mid-range you're not going to notice the difference in tubes. I also noticed that brands made at different factories will provide the biggest differences. One other thing I think would be interesting to see would be putting the same tubes taken out of one amp and put in another amp to see how it changes the sound when using the same cab and guitar.

    • @flecht
      @flecht 10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Well, change the microphone to something less harsh (e.g. E906) and you might find TAD sounding better.
