I listened to so many important and famous ragtime players here on TH-cam. But nobody understands and plays Ragtime better than Tom Brier. He is by far the very best ragtime pianist, and there is absolutely no doubt about it. Unbelievable and unique skill and talent
Tom was indeed the best in the world at his peak performing capability. He's also a gifted ragtime composer who has written three folios of wonderful ragtime pieces.
@@specadmin exactly, and the mpst famous pieces of him are now available as sheet music to download... i was such a happy person when i saw that ;)
@@specadmin4 now i think
Tom's forte was this stuff, 1920s foxtrots and classic ragtime, many professional ragtime pianists would say his Joplin was atrocious though Tom understood Joplin, he just didn't care 😂
Tom takes this simple tune and cranks it up to 11. His improv is so complex and energizing.
I always think of ragtime like a dog
Left hand: the dog is happy and jumping around
Right hand: the dogs' head keeps rotating at über speed
LOL nice way of thinking about it
One guy has disliked, one guy can do it better.
Show yourself, and let your show begin!
hahahaha/.......VBR
Man...Tom's improv is just straight genius level. It's almost scary how good it is.
Absolutely true. Just exquisite.
Also got scared by his phenomenal ability.
Btw, man, I saw your comment from 3 years ago 😂 Seems like most people come here again and again.
@@coda_mon It's hard not to come back to this one! I'll probably be watching this video until I'm an old man.
I'd visit that coffee shop anytime if Tom was playing ;-).
TOM BRIER COME BACK TO LIFE I MISS YOU
He’s not dead tho
Life is being used as metaphor for his playing and lively, non-paralyzed spirit.
Pianista de lo mejor que hay. Lo toca todo con una precision perfecta
great guy. thx for uploading
So uplifting! Thank you!
Tom delivers the blues, and how! Thanks to you for posting, Carl.
@verybigrifle A banjo player! Wow, I'd love to hear a banjo player for real. My grandfather played the banjo years ago but unfortunately I was too young to remember and he can no longer play it.
Great!!
Yes it is great....THis is the first time i have heard him play it solo. He usually plays it Duo with Carl Sonny Leyland.........Thanks for commenting....VBR
Great take on a Charles L. Cooke favorite! I'm very surprised that there's few similarities between this and Cooke's "Such Is Life", which is another great rag.
@Chris246t8kr I hear you...But as far as I know it is just those 3 days in March, formerly the last weekend in Feb., that he goes there?? It is also probably a 2 1/2 hour drive from where he lives? It is 40 miles from my house. Yes it is fun when he comes to town.........Coffee/Sanwiches/internet hookup. THere is a local banjo player that comes out with his chord sheet binder and Tom plays through it with him too......I went home this year..................Thanks Chris. VBR
@LudwigVonKoopa64 Yes is wallet is outlined there :-) Glad you enjoyed.....I love this tune anyway and when Tom and Sonny Leyland duet, it is fantastic... Thanks for commenting.... VBR
I would like to see Tom Brier play Fig Leaf Rag. please!
Due to Traumatic Brain Injury suffered by Tom Aug 2016 from an automobile accident, he is living in a rehab/assisted living facility and can't play Piano. Whether he ever is able to again, is not known....VBR
@@verybigrifle OH NO!!!
Best of luck, I hope he gets better as soon as possible.
@@othello7 We ALL wish him to recover, but after over 2 years, there isn't a LOT of progress. 24/7 in an assisted living/rehab facility. He can't do for himself normal things, so piano is far down the list to recovery. Although he has a keyboard he uses in bed, and left hand scales can be played a little, but right hand is stiff and not working much, if at all at this time?..........VBR
if i were tom i would play the piano all the long^^
You're welcome.......Thanks for watching.....VBR
@Chris246t8kr You can hear TOm and this guy from Last year. THis Banjo is a Tenor 4 string like the old riverboat/jazz style. He also plays a 5 string BLuegrass Banjo and in a band. I have never heard him do that. Go to my UPLOADS and keep clicking LOAD MORE to get the very first videos i did, and of TOm and Banjo PLayer. Titles are A Minor Drag, Louisiana, Bill Bailey, Five Foot Two, Shine, Sweet Georgia Brown. Check it out......Thanks.. VBR
