The Kevin Richardson Wildlife Sanctuary’s mission is to provide a self-sustaining African carnivore sanctuary for the purposes of wild species preservation through education, awareness and funding, especially pertaining to the rapid decline of large carnivores in Africa due to habitat loss, human-predator conflict, unscrupulous hunting, disease and their illegal trade.
On this channel, The Lion Whisperer films the majority of his footage using a GoPro camera, allowing viewers to get as close as possible to the lions, leopards and hyenas at the sanctuary.
Kevin Richardson hopes to provide viewers insight into the lives of these beautiful creatures and in turn, by watching the videos on the channel, viewers will be directly contributing to the conservation of these majestic animals.

I cried when Steve Irwin died because I felt like he was one of the few people who truly cared about the animals he took care of, Crocodiles even....Kevin has filled this void for me, this dude is the best and those cats love him so I know he is a good dude. Animals sense energy on people, always trust their instincts. Kevin is the best and I wish him continued success with those beautiful cats.

I loved this video in particular. I love how reasonable and honest Kevin is, he's not trying to sugarcoat the truth about his lions still being wild animals, end of day, even if they are obviously attached to him. People should love, accept and try to understand animals as they are, instead of forcing human traits on them.

I believe animals absolutely hold love. It is the fact that they live such dangerous lives in the wild that they cannot sit around crying when a member is killed or a cub won't survive. They have to move on quickly. That in no way disproves that they love one another or are capable of loving us. We are overly-emotional and hang onto things for far too long. That is a weakness, not a strength.

Yeah, there's an elegance to the walk of a lioness, and she has it in spades.
My german shepherd died a very similar way Amy did. I took him to a vet for a routine check up and they found a pancreatic cancer. 2 weeks later i had to end his suffering, he couldn't even move on his own. Its been almost 2 years and no effing way i will ever get over it. But seeing how you deal with your loss and make some sense of it has given the at least some logical reason to get on with it. I have watched your videos for years and one of the questions i ask myself quietly is "he´s got about 40 other animals he loves, where do you get the will and strength to go on..."

I went to Mogo Zoo that thankfully survived the New Years Australian Bushfires that destroyed Mogo itself. One enclosure had a Tiger in it as per the sign, but try as I might I couldn't see anything. Thinking that the enclosure was empty I started to walk off when a loud crash on the wire scared the crap out of me. There was the Tiger, looking all smug. It had concealed itself in the dappled light and shadow waiting for me to turn my back.
Made me realize just how easy it is to become food.

I think the closest Kevin gets to LOVE from Meg is that 'pounce' she does when he enters her enclosure, and doesn't then proceed to eat him LOL.

My cat passed a year ago, I had her for 18 years and she definitely was a fun personality, showed love and of course was loved in return. Animals are so complex and so much more than we think.
Extra Valentine's love for Meg. It's still weird seeing her without Amy but great to see her doing so well. I refuse to believe that Meg doesn't love you, Kevin. Like you said, not in the same way humans do but she definitely feels something.
Meg could kill and eat Kevin.
I would say it is love, there is certainly affection, but as he said it is not love as humans love. It is not a love for Kevin and who he is but rather a bond due to the history of their relationship.

They are DIFFERENT, sure they may feel love but it is lion love, which is completely different from human love, just as your love for a sibling is different from your love for a mate and different from your love for, say, a hobby.
Further, I'm pretty sure lions lack self awareness and understanding of causality, meaning that feelings such as shame, guilt, regret, etc. are utterly incomprehensible to them.
This is probably not true of all non-human species. Most large-brained social mammals such as elephants, great apes and dolphins probably feel and think very much like us. On the other hand, some animals such as snakes and fish probably have NO emotions similar to ours.

@Karen Dilday Everyone has their own version of heaven. Mine is that I will see all the people and pets I have loved again, and that I will finally know God. Heaven is not a place where all the good people ever are wandering around. It is a personal belief for me. My problem with organized religion is that is based on the beliefs of a few people can't have been Sure they were right, no more than I do.

I love watching the lions greet kevin. It makes me laugh all the time. If i can just feel a lion, i'll remember that for the rest of my life. I've always love cats.

I know you’re not the elephant whisperer but I do believe elephants definitely have the capacity to love. The way they mourn the death of another elephant is heartbreaking. They don’t seem to forget anything either. I love elephants and I hate how the circus industry has mistreated them. I hate that they’re killed for their tusks. They’re so beautiful inside and out.

Valentine in prayer too. All animals that have moved on enter a special place called the Rainbow Bridge. A place where we can reunite with animals from our past. It's not very far from Heaven, just a bridge over. I'm sure Amy is quite happy there because of its endless warm lush green and bountiful pastures. A place where its timeless, no aging nor sickness and pain. A place where they can "all species" engage together happily. Peace☮

I think Meg probably knew Amy was sick for awhile just through scent. It likely wasn’t a surprise for her.
I think that Vayetsi had no close bonds but that of his brother Mufumo when his brother died. Meg also had Kevin, so tho there's a hole in her life she's not completely alone like Vayetsi was.
How did Vayetsi act when his brother's gone?
@@resilientcactus1472 When Vayetsi.s brother died he was around a year old, maybe less. He kept crying out (calling) and pacing up and down the fence. According to Kevin, lions get over it after a few days but Vayetsi didn't. That's when Kevin bought Livy and Ginny to keep him company. They are approx the same age.

I loved the honesty you shared about your relationship with meg. Being brutally honest that if conditions were right she’d could kill you and lose little sleep over it. That’s amazing and a side of your relationship with her I didn’t expect. I have now a better insight of your devotion and respect for these magnificent creatures and also the delicate balance you walk with them every day.
She seems to be "okay" w/o her sister. Tears in my eyes. Missing Amy. For the longest time I couldn't tell them apart,... then you pointed out the little tuft on Meggies head!!! Bingo!!! Do you have the same relationship with the black leopards? They are so beautiful.
I miss Amy as well. Meg & Amy videos were my favourites.
he has said in the past the due to the black leopards "personalities" if you will, they're less subjective to the type of affection shown as the lions. The lions are social creatures and have a complex where kevin fits in as one of the "pride".. the leopards are more solitary animals, that don't form these types of bonds usually. That being said they don't seem to have a distaste for kevin, it just seem the leopards are more happy to get their treats, then be left alone. The leopards are not necessarily looking for the same type of affection that the lions would be. Hope this helps, Long live Kevin and his Prides C:

The mother lion who abandoned her to unhealthy cubs for her healthy cubs is just mere survival, she needed to put her time and energy into the cubs who had the most chance for survival.
The idea of humanizing animals whether domesticated or wild is we humans imposing our feelings, we want to be loved by them as much as we love them.
I have no doubt that the animals in Kevin's care have an instinct that they are protected and cared for, therefore they definitely feel affection to their caretaker's. But like Kevin said that if a meal was between a loin and he, Kevin would likely be on the short end of the stick.
Evolution have made humans compassionate and hopefully more humane but sometimes l wonder, if we really have evolved as much as we think we have.

The average dog shows more loyalty to a human being than a human being shows to a dog. Humans sometimes abandon dogs but dogs never abandon human beings. Lots of cases of dogs never getting over the death of their owners and visiting their graves for years after. Sometimes as long as 10 years.
